An inordinate self-esteem; an unreasonable feeling of superiority as to one’s talents, beauty, wealth, rank, and so forth; disdainful behavior or treatment; insolence or arrogance of demeanor; haughty bearing. Pride can, more rarely, have the good connotation of a sense of delight or elation arising from some act or possession. Some synonyms of pride are egotism, arrogance, haughtiness. (Source: Insight into the scriptures)
“Pride refers to those feelings that are ‘generated by appraisals that one is responsible for a socially valued outcome or for being a socially valued person.’”
And, arrogance says, “The assumption is that great actions do not result from the effort, but are natural consequences of our greatness. In other words, everything we touch turns to gold.”
That it would be a prominent feature in the attitude of many during the last days:
“But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, betrayers, headstrong, puffed up with pride, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, having an appearance of godliness but proving false to its power; and from these turn away” (Spiritually Inspired).
The kind of pride that becomes a sin is where one becomes arrogant and vain, one begins to imagine themselves better than others, more entitled than others, superior to others, or above others. The kind of pride Satan had when he was still an angel, that motivated him to rebel against God himself, despite being his highest creation and in direct and constant contact with God himself. The kind of pride that is destructive and negative, that goes against what is good and right, and feels quite justified in it. That kind of pride makes one delusional.
Pride is loving an image and not your true self, that's why it depends on others approval to exist.
The proud don’t listen.
Often the proud don’t know they are proud and they won’t listen because they are blinded by their arrogance. Pride stops you from hearing the truth even if there is clear evidence.
“Pride will always be the longest distance between two people.” (anonymous quote)
· “For pride is spiritual cancer: it eats up the very possibility of love, or contentment, or even common sense.” (anonymous quote)
· “Pride must die in you, or nothing of heaven can live in you.” (anonymous quote)
· “Pride is concerned with who is right. Humility is concerned with what is right.” (anonymous quote)
· “Making mistakes is better than faking perfections.” (anonymous quote)
"There being those that often having a tendency or inclination of promoting notions that there way has no flaws. And here comes to mind, a pompous personality being witnessed for all to come to know of...a spiritual inventory may be greatly needed...here in the now."
