Nice "counterpoint"/echo conception for the dual voice arrangement. The vocals would sound better if you did not push so hard when you sing.

Thank you, Ken. The vocals would have matched more crisply had I extended the project, but it was written and recorded in a 5 hour straight session over 4 tracks, so the fourth track singing voice was considerably different than my fresh first track voice. ^^0

Nonetheless, dually noted. My thing is...being in music for a while, I know they want you to sacrifice passion for quality, but I'd rather sacrifice quality for passion. There's a difference between someone singing a song and someone crying out from their heart. It makes recording a challenge, but makes all the difference when live.

I absolutely agree with that philosophy. My problem with the vocals was I could not distinguish the type of emotion you wished to communicate. It seems intermittently almost repenting at failure, and again prophetically agressive to correct something. The words of the song and the introduction appear to be less aggressive, which is why I decided to recommend the softer tone.

Interesting points there my friend...

I don't know that there was a single emotion I was trying to convey. The song begins directed toward God as, much like you said, a repenting of failure/plea for help and change...then following the same tone, switches direction toward others, and calls them to reflect on their own lives (as I'm doing), and join me in both life and death with God.

Then maybe the change is vocal tone is justified. It was not clear, but if you youtube with lyrics, it might be.

lyrics:

"I would trade all my days for you to come and stay deep inside of my heart always, and I want to want you. I know that I do...Want to love you...because I need to, so I'll play and sing, starve, or do anything just to catch a glimpse of what we could be."

(Oh, I wish I could say that I've made you proud of me, today..., and if singing won't do, I'd explain to you simply that it's because I need to, so I'll give to you everything that I do simply to see just what we could be.)

I want you to know that it's not how much you can get, but how much you will give...not how long you can put off or avoid death...Not how much you will bet, but be willing to risk...I guess the question is, "How much do you live?"

So breathe the air with me. Walk the city streets. Come on, stay and see, "We'll speak softly."
..and I will tell you why I'm not afraid to die...because then I will get to look into your eyes.

With the words in front of me, it works perfectly. Even the slight not-together of the two parts expresses the urgency and conflict of the feelings.
