Post and discuss your favorite Christian indie artists/albums, be it folk, metal, or pop.

Sufjan Stevens' entire Seven Swans album is a kaleidoscope of music entirely centered on the Lord Jesus, definitely worth listening to entirely.
I'll be bumping for a while, feel free to ask for recommendations.

Unfortunately this song is very "lenient" but it's addressing our Lord and Saviour nonetheless. They have only made one album unfortunately!

"Ya Hey" by vampire weekend is clearly about God (YHWH)
Many take different stances at the message but I think the main underlining of the song is that only God can love with such intensity for a world that hates him.

Vampire weekend is a secular band unfortunately but I feel that their content is far from from offensive.
Also their newest album "Modern Vampires of the City" deal with themes of religion throughout.

A staple of Christian indie music, Michael Gungor is always worth your time. His album "Beautiful Things" is excellent, and my favorite of his.

On the heavier side of indie music lies mewithoutYou. The band is lyrically phenomenal, making use of imagery to the highest degree.
They have since become Universalists in 2009 but their discography before that is one that openly praises the Lord.

In 2005 Pilgrim released their magnificent self titled album. Surrender is the lead single but the entire album is a gem among electronic pop music.

"My girls" is a song by Animal Collective that selflessly reminds me of how life should never about material things. Definitely a song I can proudly agree with, though we should be praying for these great artists to know the Lord!

If ever there was a song I wish I could sing with my brothers and sisters in a service, it would have to be King of Carrot Flowers by Neutral Milk Hotel. Though not a "Christian" band, I feel many of you have felt like shouting you love the Lord from the top of your lungs.

Half-Handed Cloud is a very strange Christian band whose music is as free as their spirits are with Jesus. theycurrently are on Sufjan Stevens label, Asthmatic Kitty.

Time for some indie bumps!
I'll start this off by mentioning Starflyer 59, a Christian band whose influence takes greatly from shoegaze pioneers, My Bloody Valentine. Words can not describe how good starflyer is, without a doubt one of the best Christian indie artists of all time.

Pedro the lion is a band fronted by David Bazan. His songwriting is superb but has unfortunately professed to be an atheist since his fourth album. My friends and I pray for him to return one day.

Danielson Famile is.. strange to say the least. But that didn't stop them from making a song about nature crying out to God to return xD

To get back to reality, this is Welcome Wagon, a very nice and modest indie folk pop band.

nuts i didn't get to be the first one to post SF59 in this thread :D

this was the first band God put into my life after i gave up secular music to give my ears to Him. at the time i didn't even know any modern Christian music at all - i knew the hymns at the church i grew up in and the old time gospel hour radio show i could catch on AM signals bouncing around the Appalachians. not many months after at a youth retreat someone showed me a magazine with some interviews and label & album promotions - i'm a space nut and zeroed in on the Starflyer 59 name.
this was about the time of his 2nd or third album, and he's put out over 20. it's been a blessing to be along for the ride all this time :)

so post some of his shoegazey songs! this band is a lot more than shoegaze, but it is where his music started. like this, where the MBV / blur / swans etc influence is unmistakable:

I'm a big Vampire Weekend fan, but I have not really listened to their newest album. This song is awesome. Thank you for posting.

To my surprise, it isn't very off-base. Would you say that about the rest of the album?
