OK, this is NOT meant to be a commercial; I just have to set up the story...

I just got a portable internet device that allows for unlimited data. Anyway, once I hooked it up, it was amazing all the things I could do. Why? For several years our family was using satellite internet with a data cap, so YouTube and such was a big data eater and was rarely ever used.

So what's the point of all this? Well, once I got the device, any previous feelings of depression temporarily went away and was replaced with elation. I had to tell myself, "This emotion is only temporary. You'll calm down and you'll go back to normal."

So anyway, have any of you ever had spikes of strong emotion when you knew it was only fleeting? Did you have to warn yourself not to take certain things for granted or to curb your enthusiasm?

Are our emotions so unstable?

Re: Emotional Highs and Lows, and a Karma Go

Hey there DC. :)

Someone else on here - I think it was Sirk - had mentioned how we are wrought with high highs and low lows. I agree, and believe we tend to react emotionally more often than we are to approach something with thought and objectivity.

This has been something I've been working on and improved upon a lot lately. Emotions are still going to find their way into our reasoning, but hey, that Karma Go thing sounds pretty cool - and THAT is an objective position. :p

Merry Christmas!

Yep. Hey, if you don't mind, could you delete the part about the name of the device? It might accidentally advertise the thing. Sorry, I'm a bit antzy about the rules.

I have experienced these same thoughts and they're definitely part of the human experience. While our emotions are very real I don't think they should be trusted

Sorry, I signed off after posting. Can't edit the post now. I think you're safe though. Site staff is pretty discerning; I doubt there's any trouble here.

.......how does one not know this?
I have probably watched less than 20 hours of Star Trek in my lifetime. What I have seen didn't really involve the Vulcans too much.

Lol WiseBeardman i guess im a huge disgrace! I have never watch star wars in my life! ??????

but concerning highs and lows of emotions, i just thought it was a woman thing and that out of 1000 i was the most emotional. Like i would tend to push away someone im initially attracted to because im like that type of person that has so much love to give, like ill care for you instantly and selflessly show you it( im not a fool but i guess with all the good i have in my heart i assume that atleast the majority have like-minded hearts) But the problem of course, not everyone is genuine so until i know for sure this person is for real i put up a wall... But at times it still doesnt work, like I would still let my feelings get to me. And i am like one of them transparent free spirited Bold Chics, so sometimes i show my feelings too much... Any ladies can relate? Eg. Like after knowing a guy for 2/3 weeks i feel these strong emotions which sadly at times turn out to be lust i guess?

Actually Surak didn't advocate repressing emotions so much as controlling them rather than emotions controlling you. There is a difference between public comportment and private enjoyment, and Surak never intended people to take his teachings as saying you should never have emotions.

If I'm feeling really up or really down I can usually pinpoint the cause. Blood sugar running low (eat something) low energy (accelerate respiration) car has a coolant leak (well crap...) Sometimes later in the day I'll feel bad emotionally and not know why, until I stop and think about it. "Oh yeah, I'm upset because of that car. Stupid emotional residue." If I'm feeling really good I don't stop and analyze it, I just roll with it.
