"....... they HAVE to..."? (I teach REBT, and this raises a flag for me.)
Yeah, they "have to", meaning, that it would be courteous of them if they did not talk on the phone while using a public restroom. How does that raise a red flag?

I hate it when I'm on the porcelain throne, doing my business. Then I gotta scramble to dry off, pull up my pants and reach the phone before it stops ringing.. Usually it's either my mom or sister and they'll say "where were you"? I say "well I was just taking a pee"..lol Or if I happen to bring the phone into the bathroom with me, and the phone rings, I'll sit and talk with whoever it is, BUT I don't flush until they've hung up the call..lol

Nope! No blame-taking here. :)

The original post was written to be as neutralized as possible while still telling the story.

I'm actually surprised so many people have answered this thread... Potty issues apparently strike a very common nerve!

Actually, it's a pretty crappy subject to discuss.

I used to build custom homes. I cannot tell you the number of people who (before cell phones) wanted phones installed in their bathrooms.... TVs too.

Many high-end hotels still provide phones in the John.
I stayed in the Vinoy Hotel for my 40th Birthday and they had phones in the John - I called someone just to say you will never guess where I am calling you from.....lol

I worked for a financial firm for 25 years and it astounded me the number of times women would not wash their hands before leaving the bathroom.... Made me disgusted to say the least as some of these women made a ton of money... Just goes to show you lots of money doesn't necessarily give you class or common sense to wash your hands....

Many years I used a paper towel to open the bathroom door and then it made me germ phobe to look at all the buttons we had to push at the elevators or phones we had to use knowing the guilt of the non washers.... Thank God for our immune systems....

Yeah, this thread is pretty much in the toilet. Someone oughta flush it.

Okay I think we're done here.

For some reason I'm reminded of an article Lewis Grizzard (yes that's his real name) wrote about phones in airplanes.
"Hey man, guess where I'm calling from!"
"It's 3:35am. You'd better be calling from jail or the hospital."
"No you twerp. I'm calling from a plane!"
"Get out of my life."
"Want to hear the engines?"
