This video is great! I love what the guy does. I shared this video from a friend's profile I saw on facebook. It went all over facebook within 24 hours lol. Some people had positive responses and some people had contradicting responses about it.

Yeah, it's sad because so many actually think that they're religious acts are saving them. /:

Christ didn't come to abolish religion.
I agree. That's the only thing I didn't agree with in his video. Cause Jesus doesn't hate religion. He just doesn't like false religion. And that's what Jefferson Bethke was trying to get his point across with in the poem. I saw an article on a website from a guy who basically did a review of his video and had some very valid points. It's a long read, but it's worth it!

Does Jesus Hate Religion? Kinda, Sorta, Not Really – Kevin DeYoung

That's the website. Check it out when you have time. ^^

For arguments sake, I'm not gonna say anything about this, religion has many contexts.. And this video isn't about the kind of religion your thinking of, however, Jesus did "correct" the religious people in his time.... Because your religious acts DO NOT save you, thats the point.lol

The video has it's ups and downs. Some of it is rather misleading, and I can see that many will take the "Grace and grace only" thing to justify their sins.

I agree there.. People take it as "oh I can sin and get away with it" which isn't what it means, at all. O:

That IS the point. But let's not forget that Jesus went to temple...religiously lol

He was a practicing and obedient Jew.

I agree with the intent of this thread :)

Ugh, not another Christianity isn't a religion it's a relationship thread. For the last time people Christianity is by all definitions a religion and this utter rejection of everything material is starting to border on Gnosticism.

Religion has different contexts..
But the religion this dude is talking about says "do this to earn salvation." Which isn't true.. Salvation is a free gift.

That doesn't seem to be a context or definition used anywhere but in Evangelical circles. Which for some reason saw it necessary to create it.

I agree. This video does not mention how Jesus was a Jew and how he followed the traditions of the jewish religion. He was circumcised (Luke 2:39), he observed the passover (Luke 2:41), he attended the synagogue regularly on the sabbath day (Luke 4:16), he confirmed the authority of the Torah and the Prophets (Matthew 5:17), he was called Rabbi by his followers (John 4:31), and he even instructed his people to listen to the pharisees because they sit in Moses's seat (Matthew 23:2-3).

I think an important thing that people forget is that humans are ritualistic beings and learn and relate through ritual. Every ritual has a purpose and it only becomes bad when people no longer attach meaning to it. The sign of the cross for example is a constant reminder of the Holy Trinity and the fact that we belong to God.

Ritual is not something that hinders, but something that helps.
