That's what Paul was saying in Romans 7, and Jesus brought those things into a greater understanding, without abolishing them. I don't see anything wrong with continuing to get an idea of what sin is by looking at the Torah, and then applying it as Jesus instructed.
hi Matt.
where did Jesus teach about making sure there was no yeast in the house?
Matthew 16:12
Then they understood that he was not telling them to guard against the yeast used in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
oops....
Have you ever tried it? As the old cliche goes, "Don't knock it until you try it"
why on earth would i do that?
no, i haven't tried it.
i'd rather spend the time actually just reading and attending services and being fed by the word.
rummaging through my cupboards is a bit.....odd.
it was a type Matt.
i really don't see how it helps you.
do you think about all the sin you've committed through the week as you do it?
is that how it helps?
why not just confess your sins and be forgiven?
If you've never gone through the process, you wouldn't understand. It's not really something you can observe someone doing, and then understand why.
oh i understand.
it's a religious practice. a ritual.
it is a symbolic doing.
it has nothing to do with purging your life of sin - or the FALSE DOCTRINE of the Pharisees.
it's superstitious at this point, and a return to shadows.
it's risky for weak believers.
and really kind of ...well.....anyways.
this is true.
but you're advertising a closer walk with God, aren't you?
It depends on why you're doing it. If you're doing it out of vain religious duty, it means nothing. If you're doing if with a heart to know God, nothing wrong with that.
hmmm.....is God interested in yeast for baking?
Jesus Christ is a Real Person who came and accomplished all the things God USED to teach (Tutor) the israelites.
it seems silly.
Why get baptised? It's just acting out a shadow of the transformation that God has already done in us?
says who?
Jesus commanded it
directly under the New Covenant.
Why do the Lord's Supper?
seriously?
are you really comparing packets of yeast (i imagine poor souls actually worrying about this eventually) with the Lord's Supper?
REALLY?
Why celebrate Easter (for those who do)? etc.
why celebrate Resurrection Sunday??????
The rituals, whether in the OT or the NT carry the same precaution and risk.
really?
what NT rituals are you speaking of?
what risk?
i'm interested in this.
I'm not sure you do any of these things, but there are people who would make the same argument as you are, yet still practice these same rituals.
Disclaimer: I have been baptised, and would recommend Believers do the same. The same with the Cup and the bread.
why recommend people be baptised?
