I'm really angry 'cause my brother had to do this "cultural dance" at school. His teacher, Mrs Luthuli,made the how class go out on the field to throw popcorn seeds on the ground and do a chant. Apparentely, its supposed to summon the "water goddes." I mean no offense to the culture, but the majority of my brothers class is Christian. I'm angry because mrs luthuli is trying to make the class stop being Christians and it's not the first time she tried. She also did it last year and a few years ago apparentely. What should I do? My brother's not keen on doing it, but apprentely it's 4 marks so he can't back out of it.

Can i have ur opinion on this please, thnx.

Christians have had their land taken away, been put in prison and killed for their beliefs. Four marks in my opinion would be a meager sacrifice for standing up for your faith.

I agree. I know it's asking a lot of someone your age, but I would tell the teacher as privately as possible "I can't do witchcraft for school marks." You can learn the culture just as well by being told about what they did.

Tell your brother that there is no water goddess, and to think of it as a hollywood acting class.
Tell him to ham it up real good and pretend like he's really into it and get a good grade.
Give caesar what he claims is his.
Then your brother can come home and laugh with you about it.

God isn't going to punish a kid for being forced to do something.
And there's no chance the kid is really going to summon anything except humor at your teachers expense.
I would even have him go back after the grade is complete and tell the teacher that you all had a good laugh at her silly ritual when he got home.

I too had to do one of these cultural dances in school. Imagine a skinny, pale white boy walking to and from school in black shorts, white knee high socks, black loafers, white shirt and suspenders...oh, and a little green hat with a feather. It took me an hour to walk 4 blocks since I had to take the railroad tracks and alleys both ways. Did I mention we were to do a German folk dance? Traumatic? To this day I can't watch folk dancing without going into spasms.

Maybe have the whole class take it up with the principal .? I probably would have ditched the class. Big deal : D

Kinda is a pain when dealing with heathenistic people

yes,this is hindu worship or idol worship,called puja,meaning hindu prayers.Mrs luthuli is from India.Your brother can back out of it,maybe losing 4 points,but God will give back in some other way.Pray 4 this woman also.I dont know how old your brother is,but u may want 2 talk 2 your parents about it also.GBU Jesh

If I were your brother, I wouldn't do the dance. I'd tell the teacher that it goes against my beliefs as a Christian to praise other gods. If the teacher doesn't understand, so be it. I wouldn't do it.

Perform a song and dance for the one True God instead. He's in control. Tell your brother not to compromise his beliefs.

Normally I would be inclined to agree with your logic. However, he's not being forced. He has the option... just with clear consequences. Both of you guys need to consult with your parents about this.

well, i think my mom went to the principal, i dont know if she did cause mae and my brother go to different schools, but thanks for the suggestion i really appreciate it. :)

Thanks very much for that reject-tech, im definately telling my brother what you said cause that's great advise. Im very thankful that people are giving me advise on what to do when ur teacher is trying to make kids do "witchcraft/ritual"

Wait a minute! Miss ChristsGirl: Have you spoken to your mother/father about this? Maybe he/she/both need to hear about this and make the decision as to how things should proceed. I appreciate your concern for your brother but you need to clue in your parent(s). The teacher may take things more seriously if parent's challenge her ideas.

Mrs Luthuli is zulu, but she might have come from india im not sure. and my parents are also a little angry with mrs luthuli. God Bless You Jesh

i tried to tell my brother that but he really wants to get good marks for every subject so he did the dance and he wasnt happy when he came home. he said he prayed that the Holy Spirit would surround him as he did the dance. thanks for the suggestion
