I think we need to differentiate between what is required salvational belief and what is not. To say no catholic has required salvational belief is a huge error, it's as bad as saying all Protestants have required salvational belief.
Dave
Do you really believe no people in Protestant churches believe they can earn their way to Heaven by being good enough by their own effort and strivings? Come on!

I really don't know where you are going with this. At no time did I ever make reference to ALL Protestants, or to ALL Catholics. My words are very simple and straightforward and deal with epistemology.

Where do we look to find a final authority for Truth? I look to the Bible. Catholics look to a man, (Pope). Where do I look for final authority for Truth when it comes to the will of God? The bible again, in particular, doctrine. Catholics look to tradition. Where do I look for salvation? The cross and Jesus Christ, and nothing else. The Catholics look to Christ and the Catholic Church. It's that simple! This is according to teaching. What individuals do is a matter of their own wills.

You can make whatever conclusions you want from the preceding, and you may not like those conclusions. But that does not change the Word of God, which was intrusted to us (the saints) ONCE for all (Jude 1:3), and is sufficient for everything that we require, (2 Timothy 3:16), to know God and His will for us including salvation.

I will stay away from debates they honestly get me no where at all.I have a right to view things as I choose but aside from that I am done with this forum.

Yes, we've already agreed and I have stated in this thread that the Catholic Church asserts it is the only true manifestation of the localized Christian church in the world (I know a couple of Baptist denominations that assert the same thing lolol); however, you should have kept reading. The Second Vatican Council and the CCC recognize non-Catholic baptisms (for most Protestant denominations) as the basis for non-Catholic Christians.

Catholic Answers puts it this way:

Since baptism is necessary for salvation and God wills the salvation of all, the Church recognizes all validly administered baptisms, even if Protestant. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states:
The ordinary ministers of baptism are the bishop and priest and, in the Latin Church, also the deacon. In case of necessity, anyone, even a non-baptized person, with the required intention, can baptize by using the Trinitarian baptismal formula. The intention required is to will to do what the Church does when she baptizes. The Church finds the reason for this possibility in the universal saving will of God and the necessity of baptism for salvation. (CCC 1256)

When considering the validity of non-Catholic baptism, the Directory for the Application of Principles and Norms on Ecumenism instructs:Baptism by immersion, or by pouring, together with the Trinitarian formula is, of itself, valid. Therefore, if the rituals, liturgical books, or established customs of a church or ecclesial community prescribe either of these ways of baptism, the sacrament is to be considered valid unless there are serious reasons for doubting that the minister has observed the regulations of his/her own community or church. (DE 95.a)

In other words, they recognize baptized non-Catholics as part of the universal Church which I elaborated on from a Protestant perspective in a thread earlier in this discussion. And please note that in that post, I did confront the more than 100 condemning anathemas Catholics have historically made against Protestants.

CCC 460 actually states, "The Word became flesh to make us 'partakers of the divine nature': 'For this is why the Word became man, and the Son of God became the Son of man: so that man, by entering into communion with the Word and thus receiving divine sonship, might become a son of God.' 'For the Son of God became man so that we might become God.' 'The only-begotten Son of God, wanting to make us sharers in his divinity, assumed our nature, so that he, made man, might make men gods.'"

^ But did you read the footnotes? You have to read the footnotes for interpretation not just project what's in your head onto it:

78 2 Pt 1:4.
79 St. Irenaeus,
Adv. haeres. 3, 19, 1: PG 7/1, 939.
80 St. Athanasius, De inc.
54, 3: PG 25, 192B.
81 St. Thomas Aquinas, Opusc. 57, 1-4.

In my understanding, this doesn't equate to pantheism, the false doctrine of Mormon theology which states one becomes a Supreme Being (Yahweh), or the Thetanism of Scientology but rather correlates with the meaning of 1 John 3:2 though it would be really nice to have a Catholic seminary trained priest in this discussion to explain how this correlates with Catholic doctrine surrounding the Eucharist (e.g. physical union with Christ and thus the Trinity via the Eucharist).

Hopefully I have time to get to your other two quotes. It's getting late here so I want to relax for awhile. Peace.

  1. "The Second Vatican Council's Decree on Ecumenism explains: "For it is through Christ's Catholic Church alone, which is the universal help toward salvation, that the fullness of the means of salvation can be obtained. It was to the apostolic college alone, of which Peter is the head, that we believe that our Lord entrusted all the blessings of the New Covenant, in order to establish on earth the one Body of Christ into which all those should be fully incorporated who belong in any way to the People of God." (CCC 816).

  2. Please note, CCC stands for Catechism of the Catholic Church

  3. Become a god: CCC 460, "For the Son of God became man so that we might become God." "The only-begotten Son of God, wanting to make us sharers in his divinity, assumed our nature, so that he, made man, might make men gods.

  1. Merit Grace unto Eternal Life: CCC 2010, "...Moved by the Holy Spirit and by charity, we can then merit for ourselves and for others the graces needed for our sanctification, for the increase of grace and charity, and for the attainment of eternal life."

  1. “We confess that the Pope has power of changing Scripture and of adding to it, and taking from it, according to his will.” — Roman Catholic Confessions for Protestants Oath, Article XI, (Confessio Romano-Catholica in Hungaria Evangelicis publice praescripta te proposita, editi a Streitwolf), as recorded in Congressional Record of the U.S.A., House Bill 1523, Contested election case of Eugene C. Bonniwell, against Thos. S. Butler, Feb. 15, 1913.

GOD BLESS all those who truly love and follow Christ regardless of what faction of the christian faith they belong to,also my apologies to anybody who felt offended.

No, main stream catholic is a cult. Based totally on works just like Islam.

No, I never called you a 'Catholic Killers' nor did I reference 1 john 3:15. You are inventing that in your head just like you somehow invented the false view that Catholics are engaging in pagan idolatry. I have no idea why you chose to do that.

No, you did not call me “Catholic Killers” you addressed meas one of your “Catholic Haters”.And you didn’t reference 1Jn3:15, I did, for in that verse “abrother who hates his brother is a murderer”, that is why I said, you have justlabelled me as one of “Catholic Killers”.
And Even if you consider them my enemy, we are called tolove them not hate them…

Now your use of Exodus 32 is ridiculous as some kind of proof that Catholics are engaging in pagan idol worship.

"When the people saw that Moses was so long in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said, Come, make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who brought us up out of Egypt, we don't know what has happened to him." -Exodus 32:1

The reason why the NIV uses the word gods is because that is the translation of the Hebrew word in this passage which is האלהים

The Hebrew text is very clear that the ancient Israelites are not referring to the creation of an image to worship el shad-di' with but rather being disappointed at the long absence of Moses seeking to revert back to the pagan idolatry they had practiced in Egypt.
Exodus 32 was veryclear…
Moses gone…they do not know where he is.
They longed for him and his God.
They made a calf to represent the God who brought them outof the land of Egypt and to go before them.
Comparing them to Catholicism..
Council of Nicaea(7th Ecumenical,787 AD)
We, therefore, following the royal pathway and the divinelyinspired authority of our Holy Fathers and the traditions of the Catholic Church (for, as we all know, ethHoly Spirit indwells her), define with all certitude and accuracy that just asthe figure of the precious and life-giving Cross, so also the venerable and holy images, as well in painting and mosaicas of other fit materials, should be set forth in the holy churches of God,and on the sacred vessels and on the vestments and on hangings and in picturesboth in houses and by the wayside,to wit, the figure of our Lord God andSaviour Jesus Christ, of ourspotless Lady, the Mother of God, of the honourable Angels, of all Saintsand of all pious people. For by so muchmore frequently as they are seen in artistic representation, by so much more readily are men lifted upto the memory of their prototypes, and to a longing after them; and to these should be given due salutation andhonorable reverence not indeed that true worship of faith which pertains aloneto the divine nature; but to these, as to the figure of the precious andlife-giving Cross and to the Book of the Gospels and to the other holy objects, incense and lights may be offered according to ancient pious custom. Forthe honor which is paid to the image passes on to that which the image represents, and he who reveres the image reveres in it the subject represented . . .
In these we have the following:
1. Images should be set forth in the churches, houses etc.
2. Images include Mary, the mother of God…
3. Men are lifted up to the memory of their prototypes…and to a longing after them.
4. Images are to be given due salutation and honourablereverence NOT indeed that true worship of faith which pertains alone to thedivine nature…but as to the figure of cross, etc..
(Did they define how they honor God???)

5. Honor is paid to the IMAGES
6. The honor paid to the images passes on thatwhich the image REPRESENTS.
7. And HE who REVERES the IMAGE reveres in it thesubject represented.

Ridiculous?....
Does the Bible define Idolatry??? the more, The bibles gave us examples…Exo 32
1. They honor/Revere the calf…made an altar and didoffer before it…
2. They believe it represent the God who broughtthem out of the land of Egypt.
3. They made a feast..not to the calf but to theLord…
Today…
1. Catholics honour and reveres the images of Mary…and based on the above he, who reveres the image, reveres the subjectrepresented.
2. Mary, based on their teaching…is their Advocate,Their Helper and Their Mediator…(titles belonging only to Christ)
In reality, they are giving honor/reverenceto their mediator, their Helper, Their Advocate…(as if they are giving Honor toChrist our LORD, but no the statue represents Mary).
3. They made a feast to mary…and also specialdevotion (Rosary)….
Honor to God, God is to be worship alone…
"Having entered deeply into thehistory of salvation, Mary, in a way, unites in her person and re-echoes themost important doctrines of the faith: and whenshe is the subject of preaching and worship she prompts the faithful tocome to her Son, to his sacrifice and to the love of the Father." (VaticanCouncil II, Vol. 1, pp. 420 and 421)

Thisstatement shows that Mary may become the subject of worship…

Now yes they pray to Mary and the Saints to intercede on their behalf with God and I agree with you this is not Biblical; however, it is not eidōlolatria.

For someone, who can give a meaning of a word in Hebrew and in greek, you did not gave what this practice may be called...
Let us try witchraft..(consulting to the dead, like the witch at Endor)

You are confusing honoring and veneration with idolatry. The classical distinction in the Catholic Church is worship paid to God (latreia), honor paid to Mary and the saints (douleia), and veneration given to created objects (proskynesis) with veneration being really theological in its significance.

That said, in the East they did trend toward arguing that an icon was a true representation of the hypostasis (i.e. person) of its subject but that it had a different nature (ousia) or substance [to avoid idolatry]. An icon of Christ was thus able to bring the believer into direct contact with his person but it was not an idol or eidōlolatria. This became the teaching of Eastern Orthodoxy after 842 but that theology never caught on in the Western Roman Catholic Church.

Veneration, Honor to images by Catolicism vs the Bible
Kissing Images
Hos_13:2 And now theysin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, and idolsaccording to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: theysay of them, Let the men that sacrifice kissthe calves. (shall I say Kiss Mary’s statue)
Praying to Mary forDeliverance
Isa 44:17 And theresidue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image: he falleth down untoit, and worshippeth it, and prayeth untoit, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god. (SHALL I Pray, Mary the Motherof God, Catechism para 966 " Ingiving birth you kept your virginity; in your Dormition you did not leave theworld, O Mother of God, but were joined to the source of Life. You conceivedthe living God and, by your prayers, will deliver our souls from death.)
Am I confused???
We may have differed in defining worship/idolatry…
You defined idolatry in greek form, I have shown you theirexamples in the Bible in similarity with the catholic practices.

And note that in the East, Orthodox Catholic Churches refuse to allow statuary in worship on the grounds doing so is idolatrous.
Based on your definition of idolatry, They may fall under your category of a "false charge" and be labelled as a "Catholic Haters"

Remember, I'm an evangelical Christian and I argue against all of these Catholic practices including those surrounding Mary (which most Protestants do not realize does have roots as far back as the first and second centuries), the Saints, and icons of any form.

But I'm not leveling a false charge of eidōlolatria against them for doing so either.

You can Argue, but as to the truthfulness and false charges...depends on where you based your truth....

Some seem to feel that they must be on probation and
prove to the Lord that they are reformed, before they
may claim His blessing. But these dear souls may claim
the blessing even now. They must have His grace, the
Spirit of Christ, to help their infirmities, or they cannot
form a Christian character.

Jesus loves to have us come to Him just as we are, sinful,
helpless, dependent, trusting wholly in the merits of the
blood that He shed for us upon Calvary's cross.

The Gospel message is that God will forgive, accept, and
sanctify every one that comes to Him trusting wholly in the
merits of the blood of a crucified and risen Saviour in order
that His love may be diffused through the whole being.

This love of God is a vitalizing power. Every vital part,
the brain, the heart, the nerves, it touches with healing.
If frees the soul from the guilt and sorrow, the anxiety and
care that crush the life forces. By it the highest energies of
the being are roused to activity. With it come serenity and
composure and it implants in the soul a joy that nothing
earthly can destroy, joy in the Holy Spirit, health-giving,
life-giving joy! (Rom.3:25; 5:5; Gal.5:6; 1 Peter 1:8; F.W.

I agree and for me this did not happen until I finalized the cross that I was forgiven even if I sinned again. Once I saw that I was forgiven by Christ at the cross and finalized this. This is when God showed mr the new life in God's Spirit, for when I finalized that I am forgiven by God I died to self with Christ at the cross, and every day since I die to self daily
This is what Paul talks about in many epistles, here is one about being dead to flesh self and all flesh wisdom. So that he can gain the resurrection of Christ, being alive in the Spirit of god through it

[h=3]Philippians 3[/h]Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

3 Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous, but for you it is safe. [SUP]2 [/SUP]Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision. [SUP]3 [/SUP]For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. [SUP]4 [/SUP]Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: [SUP]5 [/SUP]circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; [SUP]6 [/SUP]concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. [SUP]7 [/SUP]But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. [SUP]8 [/SUP]Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, [SUP]9 [/SUP]and be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: [SUP]10 [/SUP]that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; [SUP]11 [/SUP]if by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

I hope nobody is saying that it is impossible to
be a Christian if you are catholic because any
catholic who is living according to the light that
he has is accepted of God. The danger is
to resist any further light.

God sends us light to correct our errors and to lead
us in safe paths. By the rejection of that light the
eyes are blinded and the heart hardened.

Often the process is gradual, and almost imperceptible.
Light comes to the soul through God's word, through
His servants, or by the direct Agency of the Holy
Spirit. When one ray of light is disregarded, there is a
partial benumbing of the spiritual perceptions and the
second revealing of light is less discerned. The darkness
increases until it is night in the soul. (See D.A.322)

The Catholic church is a fallen church, has been for
centuries. It rejected the reformation in the sixteenth
century and the reformers were persecuted and put
to death. There are many warnings in the Word of
God about this church.

Actually about the flesh nature, no matter how it is dressed

  1. Galatians 3:3
Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
Galatians 3:2-4 (in Context) Galatians 3 (Whole Chapter) Other Translations
  2. Galatians 4:29 But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.
Galatians 4:28-30 (in Context) Galatians 4 (Whole Chapter) Other Translations
  3. Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

Are you saying there is no legitimate ministry or fellowship that can occur here? Should we not call out the wolves among us?

there is only one true Tabernacle and this right now is in Heaven where Father's Kingdom is at. And we, those born again worship Father in Spirit and truth through the resurrected Christ
[h=3]Hebrews 8[/h]Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

8 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; [SUP]2 [/SUP]a minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.

Actually I recall hearing that research into the question of who is saved and who is not in the form of a survey of Evangelical pastors had them declaring that 90% of the people sitting in the pews were not saved but lost souls.
False profession could be a much bigger issue that any of us can imagine.

For the cause of Christ
Roger

one is either a professor or a possessor, we can try to imitate all we want, but can't ever succeed this way and be perfect.
But when turn to Christ and have given up self efforts, one passes over the fighting flesh picket line to safety in Father through Christ's resurrected life, thus totally aware of what being born again is and thus walk in the Spirit daily through daily death to self, being co-crucified with Christ at the death of Christ on the cross where it is finished for all that believe and now at rest in Father through Christ's finished work for us.
Colossians 1:22 in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:

GOD BLESS all those who truly love and follow Christ regardless of what faction of the christian faith they belong to,also my apologies to anybody who felt offended.

You never or anyone here or there never offended me, God's Spirit can't be offended, Does not ever rejoice in flesh, only in Spirit love from God through Christ

No, main stream catholic is a cult. Based totally on works just like Islam.

flesh is unredeemed so no flesh works will ever please God. Only Spirit of God that we are born again, (from God above) through the resurrected Christ is God pleased with here and now, for us all and to us all from God the Father through the Son Jesus Christ. A gift to us. It's free. Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! how amazing, when shall we respond with thanksgiving and praise as King David did before the cross ever came into effect. Psalms 100:4

[h=3]Psalm 100:4[/h]Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

[SUP]4 [/SUP]Enter into his gates with thanksgiving,
and into his courts with praise:
be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

It is true that if the soul does not have a living connection
with God through Christ by the Spirit, the flesh cannot please
God.

Jesus lived a sinless life in the same sinful flesh that you
and I have. "Jesus Christ our Lord who was made of the
seed of David according to the flesh
." Romans 1:3.

David's flesh was sinful. Therefore Jesus took upon His
sinless nature our sinful nature and by the endowment
of the Holy Spirit He overcame as we are to overcome.

"He was made to be sin that we might become
the righteousness of God in Him
." 2 Cor.5:21.

"God's ideal for His children is higher than the highest
human thought can reach. '
Be ye perfect even as your
Father in Heaven is perfect.
' This command is a promise.
The plan of redemption contemplates our complete
recovery from the power of Satan. Christ always separates
the contrite soul from sin. He came to destroy the works
of the devil, and He has made provision that the Holy Spirit
shall be imparted to every repentant soul, to keep him from
sinning
." Desire of Ages, 311.

ab

However,

"The religious services, the prayers, the praise, the penitent
confession of sin ascend from true believers as incense to
the heavenly sanctuary, but passing through the corrupt
channels of humanity, they are so defiled that unless
purified by blood
, they can never be of value to God.
They ascend not in spotless purity, and unless the
Intercessor who is at God's right hand, presents and
purifies all by His righteousness, it is not acceptable to
God
. All incense from earthly tabernacles must be moist
with the cleansing drops of the blood of Christ
. He holds
before the Father the censer of His own merits, in which
there is no taint of eartly corruption. He gathers into
this censor the prayers, the praise, and the confessions
of His people, and with these He puts His own spotless
righteousness. Then, perfumed with the merits of Christ's
propitiation
, the incense comes up before God wholly and
entirely acceptable
. Then gracious answers are returned
."

Oh! I´m not worried for my idle state, belonging or not to a Church or a denomination. I own no truth. God is that truth! I have no idea on what a pagan (or catholic) would find here as truth, to convert him/her from that idolatry some say is avoided, since we (if I´m allowed to name MYSELF as Christian) became an idolater of my EGO,wealth and money, and all that endless stuff some may call sex, human pleasure and visceral hedonism.

In all our struggle to arrive a the right doctrine, let us remember that doctrine is not an end. It is a means to an end- to help us live a life of repentance, that is free from the devastating effects of sin.

Man's problem is sin; not doctrine.
If we discuss doctrine, we may get nowhere.
If we discuss ways how we can repent and stay pure, God will reveal himself to us and the doctrinal part will be taken care of.

When we discuss doctrine, satan often gets a foothold due to the differences.
When we discuss sin and repentance, satan flees.

Ageofknowledge, I believe their are people in all religious systems who truly have good hearts. with that said... There are hard hearted people also, not to mention even down right evil ones. I was raised Catholic. I know what they are, I don't mean Billy Bob Bo Brain, who attends church every Sunday and confesses to the Father/Priest on the Sabbath. As a child I started questioning their teachings when my mother had to ask permission from the Church to get a divorce. I thought where in the Bible does it say, "thou shalt not get a divorce unless thy ask the Pop"? I also looked at a calender and noticed Saturday was the 7th day of the week and questioned "where in the bible does it say the 1st day of the week in the Sabbath"? I aslo noticed that the 4th commandment is the only commandment that starts off with the word REMEMBER. Their is no Remember thou shat not kill, Remember thou shall not lie, ect. ect. Why do you think that is? You think it might be because God knew we would forget? Then one day I came across Mather 23:9 And do not call anyone on earth 'father,' for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Me thinks something is a little off in the Vatican. I have done more research and found the following.

Quotes from in and outside of Rome admitting Sunday can't possibly be the Sabbath

  • "Down even to the fifth century the observance of the Jewish Sabbath was continued in the Christian church." Ancient Christianity Exemplified, Lyman Coleman, Ch.26, sec. 2, p.527.
  • "Our Saturday. The custom to call the Lord's day Sabbath did not commence until a thousand years later." Adamnan's Life of Columba p.230, Dublin, 1857
  • "According to the Assyrian-Babilonian conception, the particular stress lay necessarily on the number seven...The whole week pointed prominently towards the seventh day, the feast day, the rest day, in this day it collected, in this day it also consumated. 'Sabbath' is dervied from both 'rest' and 'seven'. With the Egyptians it was the reverse...for them on the contrary the sun-god was the beginning and origin of all things. The day of the sun, Sunday, became necessarily for them the feast day...The holiday was transferred from the last to the first day of the week." DagligeLiviNorden, Vol.XIII, pp.54,55.
  • "The seven planetary names of the days were at the close of the second century A.D., prevailing everywhere in the Roman Empire...This astrology originated in Egypt, where Alexandria now so loudly proclaimed it to all... 'The day of the sun' was the Lord's day, the chiefest and first of the week. The evil and fatal Saturn's day was the last of the week on which none could celebrate a feast..DagligeLiviNorden, Vol.XIII, pp.91,92
  • "This Sunday law constituted no real favoratism to Christianity..... It is evident from all his statuatory provisions that the Emperor during the time 313-323 with full consciousness has sought the realisation of his religeous aim: the amalgamation of heathenism and Christianity." -Dr. A.Chr. Bang - KirkenogRomerstaten (The Church and the Roman State) p.256. Christiania, 1879
  • T. Enright, C.S.S.R., in a lecture at Hartford, Kansas, Feb. 18, 1884. "I have repeatedly offered $1,000 to anyone who can prove to me from the Bible alone that I am bound to keep Sunday holy. There is no such law in the Bible. It is a law of the holy Catholic Church alone. The Bible says, 'Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.' The Catholic Church says: 'No. By my divine power I abolish the Sabbath day and command you to keep holy the first day of the week.' And lo! The entire civilized world bows down in a reverent obedience to the command of the holy Catholic Church."
  • "The seventh-day Sabbath was...solmenised by Christ, and primitive Christians, till the Laodicean Council did in a manner quite abolish the observations of it." - Dissertation on the Lord's Day pp. 33, 34, 44
  • "Because the Third Commandment (which is really the fourth commandment but Catholicism does away with the second commandment so they do not have to acknowledge their idolatry which to them makes the Sabbath the third~kh) depends upon the remembrance of God's saving works and because Christians saw the definitive time inaugurated by Christ as a new beginning, they made the first day after the Sabbath a festive day, for that was the day on which the Lord rose from the dead."- Pope John Paul II-DIES DOMINI-Dies Hominis v.18, May 31, 1998
  • Augsburg Confession of Faith art. 28; written by Melanchthon, approved by Martin Luther, 1530; as published in The Book of Concord of the Evangelical Lutheran Church "They [Roman Catholics] refer to the Sabbath Day, as having been changed into the Lord's Day, contrary to the Decalogue, as it seems. Neither is there any example whereof they make more than concerning the changing of the Sabbath Day. Great, say they, is the power of the Church, since it has dispensed with one of the Ten Commandments!"
  • "The distinction of Sunday from the Jewish Sabbath grew ever stronger in the mind of the Church, even though there have been times in history when, because the obligation of Sunday rest was so emphasized, the Lord's Day tended to become more like the Sabbath. Moreover, there have always been groups within Christianity which observe both the Sabbath and Sunday as "two brother days"."-(v.23)Pope John Paul II-DIES DOMINI-Dies Hominis, May 31, 1998
  • "The ancient Christians were very careful in the observation of Saturday, or the seventh-day...It is plain that the Oriental churches, and the greatest part of the world, observed the Sabbath as a festival...Anthanasius likewise tells us that they held religious assemblies on the Sabbath, not because they were infected with Judaism, but to worship Jesus, the Lord of the Sabbath, Epiphanius says the same." - Antiquities of the Christian Church, Vol II, Book XX
  • "'And on the seventh day God rested from the work he had done. ... He blessed the seventh day and hallowed it'. The 'shabbat', the biblical sabbath is tied to this mystery of God's rest. • [FONT=&quot]Baptist[/FONT][FONT=&quot]: [/FONT][FONT=&quot]Sunday Sabbath not in the scriptures "There was and is a commandment to keep holy the Sabbath day, but that Sabbath day was not on Sunday. It will be said, however, and with some show of truimph, that the Sabbath was transferred from the Seventh to the First day of the week, with all its duties, privileges and sanctions. Earnestly desiring information on this subject, which I have studied for many years, I ask, where can the record of such a transaction be found? Not in the New Testament - absolutely not. There is no scriptural evidence of the change of the Sabbath institution from the Seventh to the First day of the week... "I wish to say that this Sabbath question, in this aspect of it, is the gravest and most perlexing question connected with Christian institutions which at present claims attention from Christian people; and the only reason that it is not a more disturbing element in Christian thought and in religious discussion is because the Christian world has settled down content on the conviction that some how a transference has taken place at the beginning of Christian history. "To me it seems unaccountable that Jesus, during three years' discussion with His disciples, often conversing with them upon the Sabbath question, discussing it in some of its various aspects, freeing it from its false glosses [of Jewish traditions], never alluded to any transference of the day; also, that during forty days of His resurrection life, no such thing was intimated. Nor, so far as we know, did the Spirit, which was given to bring to their remembrance all things whatsoever that He had said unto them, deal with this question. Nor yet did the inspired apostles, in preaching the gospel, founding churches, counseling and instruction those founded, discuss or approach the subject.
"Of course, I quite well know that Sunday did come into use in early Christian history as a religious day, as we learn from the Christian Fathers and other sources. But what a pity that it comes branded with the mark of paganism, and christened with the name of a sun god, when adopted and sanctioned by the papal apostasy, and bequeathed as a sacred legacy to protestantism!" Hence we conclude that the Sabbath was sanctified from the beginning, and that it was given to Adam, even in Eden, as one of those primeval institutions that God ordained for the happiness of all men. Thus will I show the world that the day sanctified and blessed by God has been changed. That day shall not live in the minds of the people. I will obliterate the memory of it. I will place in its stead a day bearing not the credentials of heaven, a day that can not be a sign between God and his people. I will lead the people who accept this day, to place upon it the sanctify that God placed upon the seventh day. Through my vicegerent I will exalt myself. The first day shall be extolled, and the Protestant world shall receive this spurious sabbath as genuine. Through the non-observance of the Sabbath God instituted, I will bring his law into contempt. The words, 'A sign between me and you throughout your generations,' I will make to serve on the side of my sabbath. Thus the world will become mine. I will be ruler of the earth, prince of the world. I will so control the minds under my power that God's Sabbath shall be an object of contempt. A sign? I will make the observance of the seventh day a sign of disloyalty to the authorities of earth. Human laws shall be made so stringent that men and women will not dare to observe the seventh-day Sabbath. For fear of wanting food and clothing, they will join with the world in transgressing God's law; and the earth will be wholly under my dominion."

    The man of sin has instituted a false sabbath, and the professed Christian world has adopted this child of the papacy, refusing to obey God. Thus Satan leads men and women in a direction opposite to the city of refuge; and by the multitudes who follow him, it is demonstrated that Adam and Eve are not the only ones who have accepted the words of the wily foe. {RH, April 17, 1900 par. 5}

The enemy of all good has turned the signpost round, so that it points to the path of disobedience as the path of happiness. He has insulted Jehovah by refusing to obey a "Thus saith the Lord." He has thought to change times and laws. -Ellen G. White {Review and Herald, April 17, 1900 par. 4 & 5}[/FONT][FONT=&quot][/FONT]

  • [FONT=&quot]ENCYCLOPEDIA[/FONT][FONT=&quot]:[/FONT][FONT=&quot] "Sunday was a name given by the heathen to the first day of the week, because it was the day on which they worshiped the sun, ... the seventh day was blessed and hallowed by God Himself, and... He requires His creatures to keep it holy to Him. This commandment is of universal and perpetual obligation." -Eudle's Biblical Cyclopedia, 1872 ed., p.561[/FONT][FONT=&quot][/FONT]

@alayarose,

Now, where in the bible it said that that law was given/commanded to the gentiles. Unless of course you are talking to the Jews.

Be bless.
