I was raised in a Lutheran church, but as a kid I never understood about the whole faith walk....As an adult I was baptized in march of 2010..so I guess you could say I am "babe" in Christ. As far as my reading level....how would one judge that? I have a NkJV,NIV ,Amplified and ESV ....I am just unsure as to which one is the right choice for me....I understand the NIV better, but I also can read my NKJV pretty easily.
Then for a beginner, I would recommend the NIV. Personally, I do not like that version for a number of reasons that are not important right now but, it is a version that is easy to read and comprehend. I do like the NKJV and use it myself quite often. Stay away from any paraphrased versions. They are completely unreliable.
It is a very vital issue. The Bible Version Issue is an issue over Final Authority. And it is an issue that every Christian should look into and take time to research.
This time we are living in with all the ridiculous bible perversions that are out there is just incredible. It is said that there are well over 230+ English translations on the market today. And each one has their own copyright. And of course that means that the text of each of these modern translations has to have enough changes in it to be considered an original work. Talk about confusion!!

What I find really amazing is that people will buy various electronic gadgets, like a smart
phone. That can txt msg, take pictures, record video, surf the web, download music, give

ACTUALLY, the NIV has a verse that is far more accurate than any other translation.
1 Timothy 2:12 should be translated as, "I do not permit a wife to teach or to assume authority over her husband; she must be quiet.

The one that is best to use is the one that is the most honest and accurate, i.e., the King James.
II Timothy 2:15 of the KJV instructs us to "study" God's Word.
The only way you can know anything is to educate yourself.

Savedandhopeful, I would recommend that you use the NIV for your primary study Bible. However, when a passage confuses you or seems unclear, go to several different versions -- KJV, NASB, ESV, NKJV -- and see what they have. I have found that by reading a difficult passage in several versions and by praying about it, I feel I get a real sense of what God is saying.
The NKJV is so close to the NASB in its translation that I don't use them side by side in parallel mode in my software. For regular reading, it's more comfortable than the NASB. As a pastor, I recommend it.
