Im just going to post this here so I can watch everyone blame obama for this somehow and chuckle to myself when I remember most people here dont understand how the government works or think its run by some shadow illuminati.

i'm canadian so i'll be honest, i had to do some googling to figure out what it meant.
our version of this is technically called 'dissolving parliament' but that has more to do with elections and other krap.
but is this really a big deal? it's can't possibly last that long.

ok so the government will now be restricted to only carrying out essential governmental services...

...but isn't that all the government is constitutionally supposed to be doing anyway??

I was amused that the end of the panda cam was mentioned in the headline of one of the related stories.

Other than that, I feel bad for the folks who get no paycheck now. That's about it.

In all seriousness though ( jokes aside). I wouldn't worry about it, I heard they have done it before :)

Simply put, it is politicians acting like babies because they can't get their way. There is no need for this kind of stupidity as to shut down parts of government. The workers are sitting at home not getting paid and being used as political cannon fodder. This kind of stupidity makes me wonder if their is any hope for the human race besides Jesus.

it happens every so often...this one over arguments as to additions by the GOP to restrict Obamacare...

really, it's just a manipulative tactic both sides enjoy in trying to upset the voters.
it'll all be sorted soon. always is. :)

This does not surprise me. Be ready is all I can say. They have to do some major changes in order to destroy the economy and the government. Most people just live week to week, it will be hard on those who work gov't jobs not to receive their checks.

I give a pretty big percentage of my paycheck for taxes. If the government can't do their job, what am I paying them for? They have failed us. Both parties. Youre right, most people just live week to week and day to day and try to survive. Why must their childish arguments hurt the average American?

it's more of a who wants to be in charge type thing. they are all power hungry and no one wants to give in to anyone else. my dad used to say " to many chiefs, not enough Indians".

Government shut down? Good. My wife has a pin. It says, we can send a man to the moon, why not send them all? I think, if we can shut down the government, why start it back up?

This is a bargaining chip over how Obamacare is going to be funded. I think its absolutely horrible the republicans are even considering a compromise on Obamacare to be funded AT ALL. Its an insidiously evil plan.

By the way Obama is not the anti-christ. He's not that good.

For me, truly, it is just the fact that the average joe workers are the ones that are actually paying for this shutdown, as they are put on furlough and are not paid, while those causing this shutdown will continue to receive their obscene paychecks. This has always been the issue. The higher ups that cause the disturbance are untouched by the repercussions of their actions while those that are lower down get all the repercussions.

For all of those worried about this. this is nothing!

Just remember the debt ceiling is due to be raised again soon too! Won't that be exciting? The last time they stalled about that, the US credit rating tanked because of elected officials acting like children.
