A short description of my church...........

Our Beliefs

The Church of God Reformation Movement, Anderson, Indiana, is a worldwide movement of people seeking to fulfill God's desire for the church. We are committed to studying the Word of God and faithfully living it out. We are committed to being the body of Christ in spirit, word, and deed. We commit ourselves to the mission that Jesus Christ gave every believer: to make disciples of all nations. We seek to love and serve all people, beginning with those within our sphere of activity and influence. The Church of God movement appeared in the 1800s in the midst of the broader American Holiness Revival. The pioneers of the Church of God hoped to restore a more biblical understanding and practice of what it means to be the church.

One of our early church songs says: "The Bible is our rule of faith and Christ alone is Lord." That still summarizes the core belief of most Church of God people. While we have been hesitant to issue any official belief statements, these beliefs reflect the heart of the Church of God movement:

  • Salvation makes us members of the body of Christ. We believe that the church is composed of every person who has accepted Jesus Christ as Savior. We enter into the life of the church, not by joining a denomination or a human organization, but by committing our lives to Christ.
  • The body of Christ is one, here and now. We believe that God calls all Christians to live in unity and peace. While Christians may not agree on all things, we can embrace the spirit of Christ in caring concern for one another. Jesus is our common foundation, and love is our only creed!
  • All members of the body of Christ are to live a holy life. We believe that God's standard of life for all Christians is one of moral purity and godliness, to life as Christ. As God's people, we represent Christ in this world.
  • The Lordship of Jesus Christ. There is one Lord, God's Son, Jesus Christ, over the church, so Christ is the church's ultimate authority in all things.
  • The Great Commission. Each of is called to fulfill Matthew 28:18-20, making fully devoted followers of Christ---disciples---who will then teach others to follow him.
  • The Great Commandments. We are called to fulfill Matthew 22:37-39, not only loving God with our entire being, but also loving all that he loves.
  • The Holy Spirit's Work. God's spirit equips believers with unique gifts that enable us to carry out the mission of Christ in the world. At the same time, the Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control in every believer (Galatians 5:22-23), which demonstrate the Spirit's presence within us.
  • Stewardship. All of life is to be used for the honor, glory, and service of God.

While we have this core identity, you will find a great diversity of thought and practice within the Church of God. Despite our differences, we share a journey of faith, growing together into the fulness of Christ (Ephesians 4:13). We worship, serve, and grow together as citizens of God's kingdom. We celebrate our life in Christ and embrace our call to be the body of Christ to our world---all to the glory of God.

I was thinking of some things today about a friend from Alabama, the mother of a married missionary group, Tony Abram and Marge Abram. I found them on an album once, and wrote them, for some albums. I did attend the church of God, and it had many people who were seriously dedicated, and devoted to the Lord. I know they could be a little strict, but my music ministry really started there. I remember singing acopello many of the songs, from the albums, and the fire of the Lord was very much prevalent. We as believers need to be santified from the world. Set apart, and holy in thoughts, words, and hearts. Though a little strict, is nothing of how Jesus was when he taught as a Rabbi. It is wonderful that you are here, and may the Lord wrap his arms around you, God bless you :) We need to get serious in our relationship with the LORd, when that happens, it shows in our lives with other people, we just don't brush them off, when their no longer needed. I believe every person God puts in our path, they are valuable, if not to us, we need to pray for them, but they are valuable to the Lord. Thanks for sharing your story. OUr spirit shows the outside character, as Daniel was within, his love to the Lord, he reaped what he sowed, within , on the outer, as he was highly favored by God, and man.

Not sure which Church of God you visited........ :) I suppose my church could be viewed as "strict." For we "strictly" teach the Holy Bible as the Inspired Word of God, and we have no creed but the Holy Bible.

(there are several movements that use the name church of God.......not all are the same)

I have seen the University many times but have never actually been on campus. It's a beautiful place. My parents were members of the Church of God in Jackson, Michigan many years ago. My grandmother was a member of the Church of God in Alexandria, Indiana. I was a waitress for a few years and remember the conventions quite well!

Yes, I do live in Alexandria...not in the town itself but just a few miles outside of town. I will be moving further south in the spring though. Im looking forward to choosing a church in Fayetteville, NC. It has been years since I have been able to attend as I don't drive. There are a few churches within walking distance to where I will be living. Im very excited to start attending again.

I will be praying that God will lead you to a church family with whom you can worship and fellowship with.

It would be nice if we were to find one fairly soon after my arrival in NC. I will be living with my daughter and she is also very excited to start attending. She has 2 young sons and I feel it is so important to get them started in the right direction. I can barely wait to start teaching them all that God has for them and learning from them as well! Your prayers are much appreciated and needed.
