I had an extremely abusive childhood growing up (no this isn't a sob story) I feel I have forgiven everyone and I have prayed a lot about it. I have been away from that environment for 5 years now. However, I still have nightmares about what I went through and the main person who was hurting me at the time. Does this signal unforgiveness or something else? As I mentioned, I've prayed quite a lot about it because, well, nightmares really suck. (explains the 5:15 in the morning post) Do you have any suggestions or have you experienced anything similar? I'm not a depressed person so it's not like I'm constantly thinking about it.. why else would I still be having these kinds of dreams?

The dreams indicate that some of the emotions are unresolved. Forgiving is a process. There are many specialized Christian counselling techniques, such as Sozo. It might be worth a few dollars donation and a few weeks of your time. Here is one: Bethel Sozo - Sozo Network

When something bad has happened to me, I dream about it while its actually over. I then after a period of time realized that I kept getting these dreams because I was scared of what I have been through. I don't know if you're scared of remembering all that happened, but by removing that fear in one of my dreams, The dreams that kept bringing back that which had happened stopped.

I do not for one moment that dreams have meanings. There are those people who thinks they can give you a load of rubbish and say this dream means this or that means that. What a load of Balony. That to me is like Horroscopes, its all made up to capture people into thinking the same as them. Dreams are like a waste desposal of the brain. like when we eat food, it goes through our digestive system and without going to detail, you know were it comes out. Dreams work on the same basis. what we see, what we experience, and what we do during the week, month, or even years. How ever the brain doesn't filter them properly, so therefore you may get the odd memory left in there.

When people have a dream, they can dream between 10 and 50 dreams in one night, there are not remembered the next morning, however there are the odd dream that stick in the mind, and that's were people has this idea it has meanings to this or that. These book writers, dreams whisperers, and these lunatics, charge you money just to give you a load of rubbish they made up from your dream is a just not right.

I agree though, that children and adults can have nightmares and see things that happened to them that they experienced in the past, however that's because the brain has not filtered them out properly. So you will remember them again, and will play on your mind. The mind is a complicated structure. To gain knowledge from such thing will take you forever, time you don't have to start getting the true meanings from your brain.

Now on other hand, if its a God's given dream, then yes, they will have true meaning for what ever God is trying to tell you or to show you. I believe that God will show dreams to people, for what ever his purpose. It's only them that I believe that has true meanings.

Richie_2uk says: I do not for one moment that dreams have meanings. There are those people who thinks they can give you a load of rubbish and say this dream means this or that means that.....

FINALLY! Thank you Richie! You child had a night fright. If you talk to him about demons he's going to have more. There's nothing else to evaluate here.

Sorry I just gave my point of view on dreams and nightmares. If you agree or don't, that's no skin off my nose. But I heard some parents tell there kids after they had a nightmare, oh don't worry, its only the bogey man! coming to get you, then the parents try to act out a scene, to pretend to a child that they are hero's! oh lets see if we can get rid of the bogey man for you, or Oh let me scare the monster off, let me open the cupboard door and scare the evil demon monster off? What on earth? is that kind of signal is telling the child? First they had a bad dream, and now the parents are involving demons into the dream? Now the parent has evoked the spirit world into there own child's life, poor child will now get even more dreams. See how people can be irresponsible without thought?

Not saying that all parents are like that. I thank God there are really nice parents out there, and try to calm there child/children through there dream.

Many times when we have dreams we think they have a big meaning and what not. I am curious though if you have made any big steps in faith lately. When we do good things like that and draw ourselves or others closer to god, Satan gets angry and will try to bring you down. One easy and common way to do that is in your dreams. The devil is a liar and sees your faith going up so he wants to bring you down. If you truly believe you have forgave them, than maby you have. Pray on it. Ask god about the dreams and ask for him to watchover you when you sleep. I've had similiar occurrences myself and I have found that prayer and faith are the best weapons against anything not of God. God loves you and would never want you to feel down, scared or bad in any way. Talk to God and he'll help ease your pains. That's what he's here for. He's always listening. Are you?

I've got PTSD and I had the most horrific nightmare the other night - not connected to the PTSD but to previous bad moments in my life. My dad drinks a lot on his free time (free-time-alcoholic) and when I was young I was hurt real bad by his drinking. I remember my refuge was a place under my desk (small desk) where he couldn't reach me nomatter how hard he tried.

My dad is a humble and righteous man when he is sober but when he drinks he turns violent.

Anyways, my dream:

I was about 11 or 12 and my dad was drunk as a goat and passed out outside the frontdoor. The neighbours where taking his money and stuff and I ran out and screamed at them and fought them off and then I carried my father inside. He couldn't stand up and I couldn't carry him and he kept hitting his head hard all the time. Finally (this is what I couldn't do in real life) I screamed at him and smashed my hand into the table and yelled at him to go to bed. Then he started crying (which I've never seen him do). He cried like a child and I felt some kind of understanding for him. Then I woke up.

Should I talk to him about this? What should I say, and how should I express my feelings towards him?

I'm not sure if you should talk to him about it or not. I've never been brave enough to talk to my mom about nightmares I have about her abuse toward me. it's really hard. if you do choose to speak with him about it, try to stay calm and non-accusing. Maybe start with something like, 'I've been having really bad dreams about my childhood lately. can I talk to you about it?' (I know that's really straight forward. I wouldn't be THAT brave. I've tried though)

Of course, express your feelings to your dad, it might be saving grace to him in the future.

Have faith and courage the enemy likes to create doubts in our minds

Job 7
[SUP]11 [/SUP]Therefore I will not refrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.
[SUP]12 [/SUP]Am I a sea, or a whale, that thou settest a watch over me?
[SUP]13 [/SUP]When I say, My bed shall comfort me, my couch shall ease my complaints;

[SUP]14 [/SUP]Then thou scarest me with dreams, and terrifiest me through visions:
[SUP]15 [/SUP]So that my soul chooseth strangling, and death rather than my life.
[SUP]16 [/SUP]I loathe it; I would not live alway: let me alone; for my days are vanity.
