The Law has a purpose still, for the lawless and disobedient,1 Timothy explains this clearly in verse 8-11.

Those in Christ Jesus, are under the law of Faith.

Romans 3:27 Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith.

God bless

Romans 3

Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God.20For by works of the law no human being[SUP]c[/SUP] will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.

The Righteousness of God Through Faith
21But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it—22the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction:23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,24and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,25whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins.26It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

27Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith.28For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law.29Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also,30since God is one—who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith.31Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law.

Question: Since we all know through the law comes knowledge of sin.

What exactly did Paul mean, we uphold the law in verse 31 of romans 3, because belivers are given the law of faith in romans 3:27 , what law is he talking about ?

31Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law.

thx God bless

Thats funny, I teach it too.

But I do not think I will know the will of God by following the law.

this is where we separate, And you condemn me for not following all of scripture why?
I apologize if I have condemned you in any way. I am not the judge of you or anyone else. I love Yah and Yeshua with all my heart.

That is what I can not comprehend.

All the law is do is tell us we are in sin.

If I go around 24/7 trying to make sure I am not in sin (follow the law). I am stagnant, and will not be doing the will of God

If I go oround 24.7 trying to do the will of God (follow the spirit). Then I will not have to worry about sin.

The law can not help us do this, Period!

I agree through the law comes knowledge of sin.

But what exactly did Paul mean, we uphold the law in verse 31 of romans 3, because belivers are given the law of faith in romans 3:27 when you belive in Christ ?

what law is he talking about ?

It means when we have faith in God, and take risks, love others, and do things to advance Gods kingdom. we will fulfill the law.

We are in an angelic war, it takes alot of faith to actually go out and do things when you are constantly under attack

Walk in the spirit and you will not do the lusts of the flesh. Lusts of the flesh are what cause us to violate the law.

I say, live by the Spirit, and you will never carry out the lusts of the flesh. ... If you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Galatians 5:16, 18

May I answer you question with a few of verses?
Romans 7:12-14 (KJV)
[SUP]12 [/SUP]Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.
[SUP]13 [/SUP]Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.
[SUP]14 [/SUP]For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

Romans 7:22 (KJV)
[SUP]22 [/SUP]For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

Paul is talking about the original. He grew up with it. He needed to go blind so he could see.

All glory to God in all things. As Paul saidPhilippians 3:13-14 (KJV)
[SUP]13 [/SUP]Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
[SUP]14 [/SUP]I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

God bless you richly, AMENLearning To Lean

1 Timothy 1:8

But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;

This is Gill commentary on this.

But we know that the law is good,.... The apostle says this to prevent an objection that might be made to him, that seeing he bore so hard on such who were fond of being teachers of the law, he was himself against the law, and the preaching and proper use of it; but this he would not have concluded, for he and his fellow labourers in the ministry, and all true believers know, from the Scriptures of truth, from the agreement of the law with the Gospel, and from their own experience, that the law is good, provided it be used in a lawful way, and to lawful purposes: and this is to be understood not of the ceremonial law, which was now disannulled, because of the weakness and unprofitableness of it, so that there was no lawful use of that; but of the moral law, which must needs be good, since the author of it is God, who is only good; and nothing but good can come from him: the law, strictly moral, is a copy of his nature, transcribed out of himself, as well as with his own hands; and is a declaration of his will, and is stamped with his authority, and therefore must be good: the matter of it is good, it contains good, yea, great and excellent things; the matter of it is honestly and morally good, as to love mercy, do justice, and walk humbly with God: and it is pleasantly good to a regenerate man, who loves it, and delights in it after the inner man, and serves it with his spirit; though the carnal mind cannot be subject to it, but rejects it, and rebels against it: and it is also profitably good; for though obedience to it is not profitable to God, yet it is to men; and though eternal life is not obtained hereby, nor any reward given for keeping it, yet in keeping it there is a reward; and that peace is enjoyed, which the transgressors of it are strangers to: it is good in the uses of it, both to sinners and to saints.

To sinners it is useful for the knowledge of sin, to convince of it, and bring them to a sense of it, and concern for it, which is effectually done, when the Spirit of God sets in with it, or brings this commandment home to the heart; and if it has not this use, it is sometimes a means of restraining men from sin, which is the use of civil laws among men; and if it has not this, it is of use however to accuse men rightly of sin, and to pronounce justly guilty before God for it, to curse them as they deserve it, and to sentence to condemnation and death:

And to believers it is of use, though they are not under it as in the hands of Moses, and as a covenant of works, and are freed from its curse and condemnation, and under no obligation to seek for life and righteousness by it; to them it is of use, to point out to them what is the will of God, and what should be done, and not done; and it is a rule of walk and conversation to them, as in the hands of Christ; and is as a glass to them to behold their own deformity, the impurity of their nature, the plague of their own hearts, and the imperfection of their obedience; by which they see the insufficiency of their own righteousness, how far they are from perfection, and what carnal creatures they are, when compared with this law: and as this serves to put them out of conceit with themselves, so it tends to make Christ and his righteousness more lovely and valuable in their esteem; who has wrought out a righteousness as broad and as long as the law is, and by which it is magnified and made honourable, and has delivered them from its curse and condemnation.

And this law is good as it is holy, in its author, nature, and use; and as it is just, requiring just things, and doing that which is just, by acquitting those who are interested in Christ's righteousness, and in condemning those that have no righteousness; and as it is a spiritual and perfect law, which reaches the spirit and soul of man, and is concerned with inward thoughts and motions, as well as outward actions; and especially the end of it, the fulfilling end of it is good, which is Jesus Christ, who was made under it, came to fulfil it, and has answered all the demands of it: so that it must be good, and which cannot be denied,

if a man use it lawfully; for if it is used in order to obtain life, righteousness, and salvation by the works of it, or by obedience to it, it is used unlawfully: for the law does not give life, nor can righteousness come by it; nor are, or can men be saved by the works of it; to use the law for such purposes, is to abuse it, as the false teachers did, and make that which is good in itself, and in its proper use, to do what is evil; namely, to obscure and frustrate the grace of God, and make null and void the sufferings and death of Christ. A lawful use of the law is to obey it, as in the hands of Christ, the King of saints, and lawgiver in his church, from a principle of love to him, in the exercise of faith on him, without any mercenary selfish views, without trusting to, or depending on, what is done in obedience to it, but with a view to the glory of God, to testify our subjection to Christ, and our gratitude to him for favours received from him.

There are many people that say they are Christian, and dont walk the walk, i used to be one of them, but how many have been convicted by his word, read it and actknowledge there sins. Has anyone on this fourm not be convicted and guilty by not reading into his law? How can one actknowledge there disobedience, if they never read it or where taught it ? Since through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.

The first time i read the O.T., God very own words convicted me , and fullfilled what hebrews spoke upon. When i was living worldly and not saved. Thank God we have a N.T

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart

I thank God for His Grace , that he has given to all men in his son Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

I belive everyone here has a story to tell :)

God bless

1 Corinthians 13:9-13 (KJV)
[SUP]9 [/SUP]For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
[SUP]10 [/SUP]But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
[SUP]11 [/SUP]When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
[SUP]12 [/SUP]For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
[SUP]13 [/SUP]And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

I have been married for 42 years
My wife and I committed our lives to God in the front seat of our car, at night, in a rain storm, in 1974
3 children 2 left, 1 gone home
House burned down in 76 when our daughter was a week old
retired
My biggest concern is that I don't misrepresent our Lord
Pastor of a church once, but not my calling
favorite scripture Romans 5:1-5
Romans 5:1-5 (KJV)
[SUP]1 [/SUP]Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
[SUP]2 [/SUP]By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
[SUP]4 [/SUP]And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
[SUP]5 [/SUP]And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
