Matthew really addressed history prior to grace until the very end of the writing.

To MidnightWelder, I like what you and Elin are saying, there are requirements to salvation, (repent ,trust an obey Christ) but, you can broaden your understanding on God's side of sal. to include the unconditional LOVE, ELECT, according to Rom.8:29-30, and Jh.17:1-2. Then after we are born into this word and time comes when /God DRAWS us to Himself, He moves us to fulfill the conditions of sal.. (seeking God, repenting, trusting Christ, holiness of life, enduring to the end.) WHO < in the world are these people who argue over keeping the sabbath> DON'T they know JESUS and the NEW Testament trues? Love to all, Hoffco OH, the sabbath day keeping was nailed to the CROSS ,but the other 9 are kept by Jesus for us to keep.

Ok, perhaps it seems I steered off track and was leading.
I suppose my point is not directed toward you Elin though you helped in my leading up to the points I was trying to make
Some people need it like that ya know, precept upon precept

as opposed to just jumping straight to
(x+y)(x-y)
God mocks the proud and gives grace to whom?
If he doesn't give grace to the proud
Then is there a condition to be met in there somewhere?
I see that there is while some who think of themselves say there is not.
Another point is, God doesn't take kindly to his gifts (grace and mercy and salvation) being taken for granted, which drives his wrath.
When we have been given grace and mercy, I believe we should not just appreciate it inside but show God we appreciate it by no longer ticking him off.
Knowing him is knowing his words
Not ticking him off is not sinning against him.
They both go hand in hand.
Following him cannot be done properly, righteously nor effectively unless one knows him.
I know when I allow myself to be humbled, the more I follow him and the closer to him I become.
And the progress never ends.
I would like to believe everybody would want to be as close to and know God as much as possible.
Hopefully that's why everybody is here.

You make a good point Hoffco.
I had a convo with one of the Saints here at one time regarding the Elect.
While salvation is made available to all I do not see that all are elect, I do notice that there are SOME who are Elect and predestined to be called to Christ and serve him from the get go.
John the Baptist, David, Samson etc. being just a few examples I notice as Elect.
Could it be that some are Elect today?
Can we name ourselves as Elect?
I'd be wary of exalting myself by stating so.
Personally I am grateful to be called to him as a follower.

I like to simply show God he may trust me with as little or as much as he places before me.
And I don't seek anything more, nor do I ask for anything less.

Jesus keep the Sabbath, as the O.T. day of rest, as required by God modified by deeds of justice and mercy. Sunday is good for us ,but we are commanded to keep a SPECIFIC day. but the REST day principle is valid and necessary for an organized church. the New Cov. gives us much more liberty than the OLD Cov. did. Jesus keep the ordinances of the Old but destroyed them on the cross as strict requirements for the N.C.. Love to all, Hoffco

But what is the truth about being under grace and not under the law? Those professing Christians who claim that we no longer need to keep the law of God, ie, the ten commandments, often quote certain verses from the apostle Paul. One of the most popular verses being in Romans 6:14 ..... 'For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.'
The problem is that the majority of Christians stop right there and ignore the very next verse which says ..... 'What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.' ..... Paul could not be any clearer. Does being under grace give us a licence to carry on in sin? GOD FORBID!!
Does being under grace mean we can now commit idolatry, adultery, covet, steal, lie, murder? Of course not! Therefore the Bible ten commandments must still be binding upon every living being. Just think for a moment about the cost of sin.

Being under grace means we do not deserve salvation no matter what we do. It means all things are lawfull. but not all things are profitable.
Who would want to commit sin, when we KNOW sin causes damage to self and others..
It is more than the ten commands. There are MANY MANY more sins than just these
being under grace DOES NOT give us licence to carry on living a sinful life and ignore the law of God. So what does this mean? Well, if being under grace does not give us licence to sin, then it means that we must NOT sin, and therefore KEEP the ten commandments, the divine law of God. .
Do you see that? We are either allowed to carry on sinning under grace, or we are not. And Paul confirms that we are NOT allowed to carry on in sin under grace.
