I completely agree with this. I even use some of the words now, words like sucks and crap and similar things when I'm frustrated. Only half-applying pure speech is not having pure speech at all. I pray that God uses this video to speak to all who are called by Him to lead, preach and teach and that we, myself included, don't lose our reverence in an attempt to be relevant and that we stop chasing cool.

I have to say this post just hit home for me. This has been something I have been praying about for some time now! Those words seem to slip off the tongue before we even have a chance to know we have said them. It seems I am confessing and repenting over and over for this very thing. You are correct....I need to think before I speak! Thank you for posting this. It will serve to convict and remind me of what is coming out of my mouth! I think that most of us don't consider those words to be true cussing but they are. Once those "little white cuss words" are said, they open the door for truly filthy language. This reminds me of what my mother would tell me when I was a child. When I had said or done something I shouldn't have, she would ask me if I would do or say something like that if Jesus were watching me. I know now that He is watching me and I don't want to disappoint Him.

That is how I feel. Once you start opening the floodgate and excusing things, eventually there is a mighty river rushing out. :) There are Scriptures that say things like how fresh water can't come from filthy water, or some such thing. :) And then there is the "be angry and sin not" thing. Yeah. I know that excusing my word usage only damages me in the long run. This challenged me, as well. :)

It is a difficult task to manage the words we say in frustation as our minds are occupied with the problem at hand. I think the key to keeping those words from slipping off my tongue is to start with where they originate....my mind and heart. I need to wash the inside of the cup so to say!

I wish I can think before I speak! :p but with my brain, what ever comes through my head will come out my mouth without second thought. Thus why, I have little to no friends! haha

Thinking it, or speaking it?

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside they are full of robbery and self-indulgence. You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the dish, so that the outside of it may become clean also.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which on the outside appear beautiful, but inside they are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. So you, too, outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

Keeping our speech free of inappropriate words is great and all, but we need to think about what we say all the time. We need to make sure we're doctrinally accurate, we need to watch our tone, we need to make sure that what we're about to say is necessary and not just a need we have to "fix" the other person or situation.

Much is made of free speech in the U.S.A. It is the first of the original 10 amendments to our constitution ratified in 1791 and it ONLY means we can say what we wish without going to jail. That's it. But as Duchess Aimee points out, the consequence of our speech reaches much further into human psyche.

T_Laurich, I'll have to watch the video you shared when I get home...so I'll have to save my comments for then, too. :)

On a side note, I hope everyone is having a great day/night! :D

He touches very well on how powerful the tongue is...

One thing I love about Francis Chan is his imagery is very vivid and tangible... His humor is also a plus :p

Just saw this on a post by Family Talk with Dr. James Dobson:
Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips. Psalm 141:3

Today's Broadcast: Controlling Your Tongue

Using just your words, you can make your wife feel like a million bucks or reduce your children to tears. It's your choice.

What are your thoughts?

(Proverbs 29:11)
It is better to keep silent and let people believe you to be a fool, than to open your mouth and prove them right........
