Here is a simple representation of how difficult it is to randomly create one of the SMALLEST proteins we are made of
Inslun
about 72 amino acids they have to be in specific ordr or they will not work
and the all have to be the good Isomer only, one bad isomer and it is useless

take a swimming pool and fill it with equal amounts of red and yellow M & M's
the yellow M & M's write on each one a random number from 1 to 72 representing that amino acid type for that position
ok let the trial begin

Blindfold self

START MAKING INSULIN
From the swimming pool of red and yellow M & M's the yellow are randomly numbered 1 through 72

STEP ONE: pick a random M & M. if it is a yellow (#1) you are good, else go to step #1
If M & M red then throw all M & M's away go to STEP ONE
If M & M is any other number yellow but one then throw all M & M's away and go to STEP ONE
STEP TWO: If it is a yellow number two (#2) you are good, put it next to #1
if M & M red then throw all M & M's away go to STEP ONE
if M & M yellow but anything beside (#2) throw all away go to STEP ONE
STEP THREE: If it is a yellow number three (#3) you are good. Put it next to (#2)
if M & M red then throw all away go to STEP ONE
if M & M yellow but anything beside (#3) throw all away go to STEP ONE
STEP FOUR: If it is a yellow number four (#4) you are good. Put it next to (#3)
if M & M red then throw all M & M's away go to STEP ONE
if M & M yellow but anything beside (#4) throw all away go to STEP ONE
STEP FIVE: If it is a yellow number five (#5) you are good. Put it next to (#4)
if M & M red then throw all M & M's away go to STEP ONE
if M & M yellow but anything beside (#5) throw all away go to STEP ONE
STEP Six: If it is a yellow number six (#6) you are good. Put it next to (#5)
if M & M red then throw all M & M's away go to STEP ONE
if M & M yellow but anything beside (#6) throw all away go to STEP ONE
STEP Seven: If it is a yellow number seven (#7) you are good. Put it next to (#6)
if M & M red then throw all M & M's away go to STEP ONE
if M & M yellow but anything beside (#7) throw all away go to STEP ONE
STEP eight: If it is a yellow number eight (#8) you are good. Put it next to (#7)
if M & M red then throw all M & M's away go to STEP ONE
if M & M yellow but anything beside (#8) throw all away go to STEP ONE
,,,
,,,
,,,
STEP Seventy one: If it is a yellow number 71 (#71) you are good. Put it next to (#70)
if M & M red then throw all M & M's away go to STEP ONE
if M & M yellow but anything beside (#71) throw all away go to STEP ONE
STEP Seventy two: If it is a yellow number 72 (#72) you are good. Put it next to (#71)
if M & M red then throw all M & M's away go to STEP ONE
if M & M yellow but anything beside (#72) throw all away go to STEP ONE

If you made it this far,
you have created ONE INSULIN MOLECULE!

It has taken you at 5000 Choices per second
more than 7,350,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 Years
Oh sorry, the universe is over!

you have had
1.843,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 failures

and the volume of ruined molecules that failed fill all the known universe from furthest quasar in either direction
1,000,000 times with bad insulin partial molecules...

but you made ONE good insulin molecule
now the problem is
how do you find it? Where is it?

and to make a working organism you have to do this a few billion times
and that is just for insulin.
we have 15000 different protein molecules that are larger than insulin
all need to be Levo isomers....

Evolution never happened my son.

Care for an M & M?

Okay, okay. The 'randomness of something being able to form' is 0% and 100% because it's irrelevant . . . you're looking from the point of view that the microbe is already formed and going backwards saying, "these are the chances of it forming like this," rather than starting at the bottom and working up.

It's the difference between saying "Somebody's going to win the lottery," and, "What were the odds that Joe Smith from Florida would win the lottery," after the fact.

Also: I think most of the posts here are talking about the problems with genetic mutations being the driving force of evolution. True, true, good mutations are rare, but it is not the only mechanism behind natural selection. There's also -- sexual selection and geographical separation, which account for far more of the variations than genetic mutations.

Not quite.

The analogy would be like what are the odds of someone winning the lottery when there isn't a lottery to win.

You don't get to start with an existing lottery like you don't get to start with an existing "microbe".

And also to add to the 0% chance of the simple protein being formed it also has 0% chance of existing in a oxidizing atmosphere.

Life happend one of two ways, Created or Naturally. Since it didn't come about naturally, it was created.

A simple spark that came from no where would have to produce many complex organisms at the exact same time to obtain life. I don't know the odds but it is probably beyond number we can comprehend. This is a simple statement of life.

Why do these facts matter?

The complex molecules in the simplest living thing cannot reproduce alone.

Outside the cell, they break down. Inside the cell, they cannot reproduce without the help of other complex molecules.

For example, enzymes are needed to produce a special energy molecule called adenosine triphosphate (ATP), but energy from ATP is needed to produce enzymes.

Similarly, DNA is required to make enzymes, but enzymes are required to make DNA.

Also other proteins can be made only by a cell, but a cell can be made only with proteins.

this is a good Godly thread. I hear all the faint of heart and their religious beliefs fear evolutionary theories as blasphemy against their holy books, but yet they/you all live by the survival of the fittest which is against the bible and more in line with evolutionary theory. But what most or all that I can see, is that survival of the fittest doesn't necessarily mean the smartest, strongest or most scheming of us. This is where the winners denounce the very evolutionary evidence before their very eyes. It's true this world favors the few smartest, strongest and most deceitful among us but that only lasts so long till the mutts of the world rule once more. lol. look at all the oldest species still alive here on earth and see how they act toward their own? Wake up and smell the evolution. It's in your bible, page 1

the word of god is good.
And his mercy endureth forever.God told us long ago
that the theory of Baal ws false
When David ws alive, the egyptions and the babylonians had the theory of evolution.
they worshipped the gods of the sun moon and star, tammuz, sun day and all the heavenly bodies (astrology)

but God told David,

Psa 100:3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

So they pagans took over the schools and lied to the children and said a lightning bolt made the first cell.
a lightning bolt cant make even ONE PROTEIN lightning oxidizes (burns) and even if it did it would make equal amounts poison isomers and good isomers

To have to make an insulin molecule is IMPOSSIBLE because the time required would not be within the expected oxidation time of insulin
and we need hundreds, thousands of perfect protins millions and millions of identical cell wall proteins whcih are HUGE much bigger than insulin

and they can only be made within seconds of each other to support themselves before they all oxidize
no evolution
God created man in a moment
all parts equal there is no way to put together a functioning cell over days years or millenium because the first made pieces would rot before the others spontanesously created themselves against infinite odds.

No the lie that a lightning bolt formed a rudimentary cell is for fools
the most rudimentary cells have BILLIONS of PERFECT PROTEINS all identical
canno
happen
cannot
cannot

theory,,,"theory" is the key word the scientist give us,,instead of hypothesis,so they can by their own admission give supporting evidence as to the case,,so they admit that they willfully and knowingly devour life forms that if left alone, would evolve into human beings(cannibalism=illegal),,,i say we arrest them the next time they eat,and because we know they have eaten for some time now we can prove it is mass murder and we should convict them of such,,,,lol,,,wonder what they'll say if we actually agree with them?

The definition of theory is an educated guess and nothing more. Use your websters.

What does it matter what you call EVOLUTION? . . . I mean honestly, call it a hypothesis, call it a law, call it a sandwich . . . The fact remains that it has all the evidence to boost it up to Theory status, right next to Gravity and Heliocentricism.

A rose is just as beautiful by any other name . . . Evolution is just as proven by any other classification.

I hope I'm not coming off as arrogant. :p Thank you all for caring so much about the issue, have a great day or night depending on where you are.

You can read in Revelation that there is no sun or moon, only the light of God.

Is this sarcasm, or......?

Clearly Genesis says God made the sun and the moon?

And clearly we've put humans on the moon before?

.....???

Read the the creation story. There was light before the Sun and Moon were allowed to shine on the Earth. Why do you wear clothes?

@ Kerry: The short answer is that as our technology improved we had no more need for our fur . . . also -- the overall hairiness of men was found as a less desirable trait for mating partners . . . So, to conclude this long exhortation, the human species 'outgrew' their fur and swapped it for clothes because of women not being attracted to hair.

That makes absolutely no sense. We had protection from the elements and lost it only to be replaced by clothes. I mean even remote tribes in the jungle cover their genitalia. Why, My dogs show it proudly, why do we not?

Why didn't our brothers who moved to colder climates evolve thicker skin and heavier fur?
