Hi all,

I'm new to these forums and all that.. so bear with me haha. I just had a question for anyone who wanted to give me their opinion. Do online relationships work? Or is it better to go with "local" relationships?

Hope for some input, because I'm CONFUSED on the subject.

I think if they are close enough to meet then I say go either or. Just be real careful with online relationships. there steps to take to be safe.
 
The thing about an online relationship, is that you can hide behind a computer screen and put on a good show for the other person. The thing about a face to face relationship is that each other is fully exposed to the real nature of each other through face to face interaction...You cannot hide as much as you can through an online relationship.....In other words, I think you are more vulnerable online to a relationship than you would be face to face....Of course there are cases where either type of relationship can work....

In my opinion, I would think a better idea is if you want to meet someone online, plan on meeting them in person too when you feel comfortable enough.....Then pursue a relationship if it's what God has in store for you! Online may be more dangerous though, so a word of caution. Just my opinion......
 
I agree with roaringkitten. Of course, if you plan to meet somebody from the internet I would be wise to meet them in a public place like Burger King or Taco Bell or any place where there are lots of people around. Meeting in the day time is also a good idea. I have a friend who went to meet a lady in r/l that he met online and wound up getting robbed when he got to thier meeting place. That happened at night.
Come to think of it, bringing a family member or trusted friend along might be a good idea too. At least for the inital meeting.
 
Online relationship is okay if you are being careful not to give in yourself too deep in it before you meet in person with the person whom you'll have relation with. Good luck ^o^
 
i had an online relationship and it was wonderful. the only thing was it lasted 6months and prolly could have lasted longer if we got to see each other. but it is totally worth it if God says it is. i mean if its meant to be then God will bring you together, and if its not his will then you will find out. my online relationship wasnt Gods will but i learned a lot from it and me and the guy are still friends cuz it was a mutual break up cuz we kept God in the center. so i mean any relationship can work if its Gods will and you keep him in the middle of it. so dont write a guy off just cuz you meet him online. God might have plans for you. although i think it would have been wiser just to 'wait' till we met in person. but whats done is done and i dont regert dating online at all.
 
It all depends. I don't think there should be a stigma to online relationships. It's just another form of gettin to know someone. Back in my grandparents generation many couples met through writing letters back and forth, then eventually got married.

The bottom line is for a Christian to just seek God in all things, regardless of the means and methods used to establish a 'relationship'.
 
It depends on the people. Some couples are separated by half the world if one member is in the military, and they can make it work. So it's possible. If people are willing to commit to each other, it can work. But it does really limit how much you can know about the person in the context of just living. If you date someone at church, you get the chance to serve God directly with that person and it really deepens a relationship. Online stuff doesn't offer that.
 
I agree with everything you guys are saying, you deffinitely have to be careful with it and it's like any relationship it has to be God's will and you have to put God first in everything. But another thing about online relationships is that they can be very painful, because you always want to be near that person but theyre so far away. If you can't handle that.. then it's probably not the greatest idea to look for that kind of relationship. But with God, only He knows whats best for you, so if that's in an online relationship then it's good. If it's not in his will, then it's not for you. But a warning to those who think it's fun, just don't get carried away with it. And you do have to be careful! Even when you think you know that person better than anyone else, they can still be full of surprises.

I don't think much besides good friendship is possible unless you actually meet up once in a while. A person could have a lot hidden (knowingly or otherwise) on their side of the internet.

Some things that often get concealed:
- Wedding rings
- Craziness
- Rudeness to waiters/waitresses
- Weight
- Eye patches
- Children
- Un-Christian-ness
- Waaaaaay too many cats
- Body odor
- Shyness
- Crazy annoying habits
- Weight

It can be rather difficult to find that true love everyone is looking for, and even more in today's hectic society. Espeically for busy people, online relationship is a short cut and very convenient service. Just like 7eleven, open 24 hrs...lol..
Online relationship are usually tricky because love is always sweeter and more passionate from afar. You'll never know until you see your date's true colors in person. I've heard that some couples have met their boyfriends or husbands online but to me nothing beats the "real world". It's easier to determine the personality of someone. Perhaps, it all depends on your timing and luck in online relationships.
Well, I'm sure it is, for some. But that just couldn't be the situation in all cases....
 
God can use anything to accomplish His will. If anyone is in an online relationship, I pray it works out according to God's will for you :)
 
hehe....true Baptist! I found some good online "friendship relationships" though in the mean time......hehe
 
Its true it depends on the people, but i also think at times many people seeking love online have personal issues which may have led to lack of confidence that is low self esteem when it comes to face to face dating, But yess it is very very convenient in our dot com generation.
 
Yeah I agree, spot on Sparrow!!!!hehe.......If I had to choose between online DATING or online FRIENDSHIPS.....I would pick friendships(such as those made on CC)......
 
Girls are evil, whether they be in person or online :) just kidding.

i think online dating is dumb... if ur calling yourself gf/bf before even meeting the person!! grr. lol

and i also agree with topher... someone could smell horrible to you (i have a smell fettish lol), or be portreying themselves as someone they're not... really know someone before going into a relationship cuz whether you believe looks matter or not... attraction DOES matter. you could be attracted to the scrawny geeky guy or the overweight woman yes, which is totally cool! but i think some sort of attraction has to be there and it's hard to know that through the internet!

now.. if you befriend someone and then meet them in person (preferably within a group for safety purposes) and then you still hit it off and decide to take it further then go for it! lol

that's how i view it anyways! my mom met her husband online and i honestly believe they are soulmates! they complete eachother in every way... she never woulda met him without the internet. i just think friends first is always a good rule of thumb! :)
