Even though in the scriptures it says do not be caught up in foolish arguments, Why do Christians debate with Christians over issues that the Bible has no indication of whether or not it is necessary for salvation ? Instance when the rapture will happen, speaking in tongues, and so forth !!!

I can't speak for everyone, but the reason I debate is to try to refute false teaching. many so-called Christians push things that are not in the Bible or twist verses to fit their agenda.

Good thread & post. My answer is the foolish notion of PRIDE !!! I have made it a priority just to stay away from those threads.

Yes some may debate from a position of pride. Still others are concerned about the spiritual welfare of their Christian brethren.
For instance the pre trib rapture notion sets up Christian who believe it for disillusionment. When tribulation comes and they are still here their faith may be shaken.
Just one example.

I understand that form of debate when some one wants to twist the scripture or only use partial scriptures, but when it comes to stuff that has nothing to do with salvation that is what gets me. False quoting the bible can cause salvation issues.

And if the pre-tribs are correct it also means that post-tribs will be going up with them ... of course there will be a lot of red faces & embarrassment during the flight to Heaven.:)

I could only wish but a bit of study has shown me otherwise.

Why would they not if they fully believe in God and have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior at the time when ever it happens, and have repented of their sins and been baptized. Wouldn't they all be brought up to the Lord when He calls rather it is at pre, mid, or post trib ?

Kenneth, it is one big mess and I believe there are 4 different tribs (ideologies) and none of them will budge. So you will have to do the research through the Scriptures and through some of the world's best religious people or theologians. Read the Bible and I like Billy Graham's acceptance of the pre-trib rapture. Other posters have their opinions but it is up to you to form and make that decision.

I think you misunderstood my response Kenneth. What I meant was, it would be swell if none of us went through the tribulation :)

Thank you and i will always read and study the bible and listen to different sources to seek out the truth with Gods guidance. I love end times study and am hungry for any knowledge to make them more understandable, and i know that even though all the study we will still have to sit and wait tell it happens. But at least we will not be in the dark as the signs our Lord said would happen and the prophecies fall in place. God Bless !!!

Yes that would be nice, but unfortunately we know from scripture that Christians will be persecuted and even put to death for our belief.

Yes Christians are being persecuted and murdered as we speak in many Islamic countries, and it will get worse during Tribulation Period. Jesus didn't want his faithful children to be left in the dark regarding the upcoming events of the rapture and Tribulation Period. He gave all of this info to Apostle John in Book of Revelation and He gave a promise not to allow His faithful to become part of the worst event in the history of mankind called Tribulation Hour. It is all there in Book of Revelation, from Jesus Himself. What I find ironic from post-trib is that most of their info regarding the rapture and tribulation, are mainly from other Books of the NT and speakers. Why not just get the info from the source Himself, Jesus Christ. If you get a chance please read Revelation 3:10 and ponder on it for awhile. When the Church is raptured, the Judgment Seat is initiated to judge each Christian for all the good & bad deeds they have done; and the bride & bridegroom (Church & Jesus Christ) will get married and have their honeymoon on earth during the Second Coming. Good Luck with your journey.

I will keep reading, and as for the one's who believe in a post trib rapture the thing that never made any since to me is why would our Lord pull us up as the scripture says just to put us right back down on earth when the new Heaven is placed on earth. Wouldn't He just transform us into the spirit down here since we are already here any way? God bless you !!!

The New Heaven doesn't take place until after Christ rules for 1000 years, satan sent to Lake of Fire and after The Great White Throne Judgment is completed. So as you can see there is a l-o-o-o-n-g gap between the Second Coming and the New Heaven of at least 1000 years.

Yes i know that, but they believe He will catch us up in the air just to have us come right back to fight the final battle. See where the confusion is it doesn't fit either way. In either since there is the 1000 year period of Christ's rule. Plus how are we saved or protected by God's wrath on the world if we are still here to endure it, and by Revelations it say's that God's wrath is issued out at the bowl judgments.

Revelation 3:10 getting ready for the journey
Revelation 4:1 "Come up Hither" we are being called home

Ok, so I'm replying to the overall thread. I'm a newbie so bear with me. I like what gb9 and biscuit have to say. The only things I want to add/comment is I think it depends. I have had friendly debate, which I think can be fine (depending on where it goes) and I have fallen into debates that became arguements (i.e. angry, often spiteful debating). I don't think it is wrong to discuss different ideas, but often pride does get in the way. Love , God's love, needs to be in the center. Also I would like to add if the debate overbears who Jesus is and what he did for us, it is wrong. Overbearing defined as the debate and it's topic having more importance than Jesus.

I debate for many reasons. We must discipline ourselves to debate, for on cc it must not be personal but it must be only what God wants us to know. When we express what this is in our own words, and when we listen to others express this and compare it to scripture, there is so much to learn. It even makes learning clearer to us when we are shown we are mistaken and when we reason through scripture at the mistakes we see in others.

I also see a growing understanding of eternal principles that God has shown us in the OT that most of the church (people who know Christ) have missed. NT has explained we don't have to become Jews to know God, that truth has been made such an extreme truth that the church has resisted knowing how and why God used the Jews for His kingdom. In our time, God has allowed archeology to give us knowledge of the way God used the Jews, and bridged the gap that time made in our understanding of the people God used. This is sifting down to us, first a few scholars that studied their culture, then those scholars going off to teach ancient history in our theological colleges, and finally reaching us. I love to tell about it. God had our plan of salvation worked out from the time Adam ate the apple, to follow how that developed is like knowing how the world operates.
