In order to believe in the Lord you first have to know about Him, and believe in his existence. You also have to admit you are a sinner that needs saving..

No lost person dead in sin can believe on Christ. The Gospel is hid to those who are lost and they believe not 2 Cor 4:3-4

3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

So one must be saved in order to believe the Gospel !

ok, only problem is..............the disciples of Jesus the Christ are Christians..........you deny Christians, in so doing do you not deny Christianity? And, if you deny Christianity, do you not deny Christ?

Those who believe Paul was a "false" Apostle........considering your comments on this and other threads, you appear to be a part of that group. "Saved" and "remission of sins" are equivalent. And since there is just one way to be saved then calling upon the name of the Lord is equivalent to repent and be baptized. Acts 22:16 when Saul (Paul) was baptized he was calling upon the name of the Lord.

In Rom 10:9,10 Paul says believing saves and confession saves.

Not quite true............when Paul REPENTED he was calling upon the name of the Lord.......being baptized (water baptized) was acting IN OBEDIENCE to the commandment of Jesus.... Sins are remitted because of repentance, not because of water baptism.......Your own comments show this to be true......just saying.

Saul was calling on the name of the Lord when he was baptized.

......well.......yes, and no...........all who are now believers in and disciples of Christ were once "dead in our sins." Being called by God, brought under conviction by the Holy Spirit, and recognizing and BELIEVING that Jesus IS who He said He is....and with a sincere and contrite heart, bowing down, we confess our sins and ask Jesus to enter into our hearts........salvation was established by God the Father through God the Son for THE LOST WHO ARE DEAD IN THEIR SINS.

Jesus said as much Himself........more than once.

repent means to feel or show that you are sorry for something bad or wrong that you did and that you want to do what is right.1: to turn from sin and dedicate oneself to the amendment of one's life. 2 a: to feel regret or contrition. He went from one of the Churches enemies to one of it's hardest laborers. He obviously repented because he turned away from the persecution he once engaged in and believed the gospel.

Many years after his "conversion" Acts has Paul saying,

"Brothers I am a Pharisee a son of Pharisees." Acts 23:6

Those items you mentioned which many would consider sins, Paul had this to say in another letter of his:

"as to zeal a persecuter of the church, as to righteousness under the law blameless." Philipp 3:6

It took no effort, it's an easy one to point out. Frankly, I didn't word it correctly when I said "Paul was a pharisee at one point". It should read "Paul was a Pharisee that persecuted Christians at one point". He never said he quit being a Pharisee as far as I know. Pharisee's differed from the Sadducees in that they believed in the hope of a resurrection/afterlife.

I'm not sure what your getting at here as I understand the verse and the Chapter in question. What point do you wish to make or question do you want to ask regarding it? Shortly after the part you quoted he continues to say

"[SUP]7 [/SUP]But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. [SUP]8 [/SUP]What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ"

Important part to keep in mind regarding that section of Phillipians. Both the verse you posted and the verses I posted are part of a larger context.
