Hello everyone. I'm trying to write a fiction story, and I'd like to draw from Christian themes. The main character dies fairly early in the story and goes to Hell. I probably won't stick closely to the Bible's physical descriptions of Hell for a number of reasons. However, I would like to use other aspects of Hell to give the setting a more realistic feel. For example, what are the social dynamics of Hell? Are there conflicts in Hell (i.e. warring groups)? What does it smell like? Where do people (or souls) reside? Is there an hierarchy in the afterlife? Do the people (or souls) have goals or desires? Can they fulfil these desires? Etcetera.

Naturally, there will be demons in Hell, and they play a big role in the story. So, if anyone is a demonologist, your input would be much appreciated.

Thanks. :)

Why would they torture souls who are already damned?

This site may help you, I haven't been there in a long time but it has lots of people claiming they have been to heaven and/or hell. You may be able to develop information from that, might I ask you what your story is about?

Thanks, breno785au. The Korean video is really interesting.

The story is about a woman who, due to poor life decisions, finds herself under the employ of a demon while in Hell. Her job is "protection," which involves offering spiritual protection for the living in exchange for servitude when they die. Her duty to the demons involves fighting for the side of evil in the apocalypse and eradicating the remaining groups that are protecting the land of the living from the wrath of Hell. She attempts to manipulate her demon handler by bringing him to the light, but the opposite occurs. He persuades her to the side of evil. It's not a happy story.

It's somewhat of a play on modern romance novels which show the "bad boy" or "demon" or "undead monster (who is also, for some reason, devilishly handsome)" being cured of his evil ways by the "power of love".

I probably won't stick closely to the Bible's physical descriptions of Hell for a number of reasons.#1 being that you have not read the Bible to even know what it is you are supposed to be referencing?? However, I would like to use other aspects of Hell to give the setting a more realistic feel. For example, what are the social dynamics of Hell? Social dynamics. SERIOUSLY?? There are no socical dynamics in hell. IF....IF you had ever read the Bible , you would know that there is FIRE and great loneliness because of the separation from God, the Creator of Life. That, in itself, is great torment. Are there conflicts in Hell (i.e. warring groups)? There are no conflicts: If you are there you will anguish forever. It is not open for discussion, ever. What does it smell like? not addressed in Scripture, but burning flesh is not an issue because physical flesh can only burn for so long before its....GONE! Where do people (or souls) reside?Hell if you die without a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ; Heaven if you have a relationship....and not just "I believe in God", because SATAN believes in God and He is NOT going to Heaven. Is there an hierarchy in the afterlife? There is heirarchy in both the kingdom of Heaven and the kingdom of darkness...which IF YOU HAD READ THE BIBLE, you would know. Do the people (or souls) have goals or desires? I suppose, so to speak: those in hell desire to get out and those in Heaven desire nothing but the presence of the Father, the Heavenly Creator...the One that loves them like no other. Can they fulfil these desires? Etcetera. No and Yes, respectively.

Naturally, there will be demons in Hell, and they play a big role in the story. So, if anyone is a demonologist, your input would be much appreciated. Not having read the Bible, you could not know that the purpose of demons is for tempting those that are not true to the Lord. You obviously do not have knowledge of the antics or characteristics of demons and you have also forgetten the FIRST RULE OF WRITING: Write What You Know. any Creative Writing course will engrain that into your brain!

Why would anyone that is NOT CHRISTIAN want to write about something they know NOTHING about?? You want US to do your research for you? Not happening.
You are young. But you must understand that if you want to be a successfull writer...and the field is VERY competitive...you must do your own research for which you will base the foundation of your writing upon.

question: WHY do you want to write a book??

let me also say this in reference to writing: Your story must be plausible and logical. If you do not have a good working knowledge of the spiritual realm and how it functions, you won't be able to pull it off.
Her job is "protection," which involves offering spiritual protection for the living No human can protect anyone from the demonic. Read the Gospels to find out wherein protection lies. in exchange for servitude when they die.Neither God nor satan bartar. Satan may lead one to believe he will, but he is a liar. I am sorry to tell you this, but your plot fails before it even starts for so many reasons.
She attempts to manipulate her demon handler by bringing him to the light, but the opposite occurs. humans do not manipulate demons, but rather vice versa. It is called BONDAGE. THere is only One way out of that bondage. He persuades her to the side of evil. It's not a happy story.
Here's the deal: Nothing that starts out wrong (your concepts of Heaven, hell, demons, God are way off base) ever ends up right.

Malachi Martin's Hostage to the Devil gives several accounts of exorcism in which he speaks with demons who possess the people they are working with.

Every good deliverance/exorcism minister knows not to talk with demons. Why??? BECAUSE THEY LIE.

It is a lot more than that! They are smart! Only Christ has dominion over them. It is only in the name of Christ men dare approach them and it is dangerous. Those who help the possessed are to be admired for their bravery and to have our prayer backup.

You know, I could probably mediate a while and come up with some pretty bad things about hell (like not having indoor plumbing, lol) but here's something I saw in a video that you probably never thought of before.

There is NOTHING in hell. There are no colors, no objects, you can't feel any temperature, and the only memories you are allowed to have are the ones of your sins. You don't remember what love feels like, or any pleasurable food you've ate, you've lost all ability to feel any comfort, and you are a soul in hell, not bodily there.

Then you hear "This is your eternity." You try to run, but you can't because you have no legs. You try to close your eyes but you can't, because you have no eyes (you are a soul, but you can "see" if that makes any sense). There is total silence. There is quite literally nothing - but the day your rejected Christ, to play over and over for all eternity.

*chills run down spine*

Also, try Dante's Inferno. Don't copy the torments, lol, but it may jog your mind for ideas.

Why would they torture souls who are already damned?
simply because they won't be torturing (contrary to popular notions and Dante) because they too are damned.

MaggieMye... I ... Don't care.

Malachi Martin's Hostage to the Devil gives several accounts of exorcism in which he speaks with demons who possess the people they are working with.
That sounds wonderful! Thanks for the suggestion.

Jamie, that's a very interesting concept. Do you know where I could find the video? And thanks for the recommendation. I think I'm going to go a bit larger than nine circles, haha. But Dante's descriptions are wonderfully horrifying.

You don't remember what love feels like, or any pleasurable food you've ate, you've lost all ability to feel any comfort, and you are a soul in hell, not bodily there. On the contrary: The Bible says those in hell will BURN: That is to (at least spiritually) feel pain and anguish, to feel the heat. You will have memories and this is supported by scripture, Luke 16: [SUP]19 [/SUP]“Now there was a rich man, and he habitually dressed in purple and fine linen, joyously living in splendor every day. [SUP]20 [/SUP]And a poor man named Lazarus was laid at his gate, covered with sores, [SUP]21 [/SUP]and longing to be fed with the crumbs which were falling from the rich man’s table; besides, even the dogs were coming and licking his sores. [SUP]22 [/SUP]Now the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried. [SUP]23 [/SUP]In Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and *saw Abraham far away and Lazarus in his bosom. [SUP]24 [/SUP]And he cried out and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue, for I am in agony in this flame.’ [SUP]25 [/SUP]But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that during your life you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things; but now he is being comforted here, and you are in agony. [SUP]26 [/SUP]And [SUP][r][/SUP]besides all this, between us and you there is a great chasm fixed, so that those who wish to come over from here to you will not be able, and that none may cross over from there to us.’ [SUP]27 [/SUP]And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, that you send him to my father’s house— [SUP]28 [/SUP]for I have five brothers—in order that he may warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’ We see from the above that the rich man, although dead, did remember his brothers and the coolness and refreshing characteristics of water. We see that those in Hades/hell DO wish to come over, but the Lord has created a "great chasm" so that this is not possible..
Again, read the Bible to know what is actually in there if you want to be believeable in in your writing.

I believe in a Gehenna. Not a Hell. So it's kind of like saying, "I'm going to write about an orange. So tell me about a twinkie." Well, for starters, they're both kind of orange. Hope that helped? But it sounds like you want a Dante's Inferno kind of scheme going on.

Maybe you could have Satan there asking, "Where's the cream filling?"

LOL, wow, someone doesn't know the meaning of the word fiction.

You know, The Da Vinci Code departed GREATLY from orthodox understandings. I hear it was a best-seller. Imagine that! There is an audience out there OTHER than orthodox Christians. For people who are NOT orthodox Christians, this so called research you speak of (which is really just reading the Bible - sorry, but research never means looking into ONE book), wouldn't matter to them one bit. In fact, it would probably be a bore, seeing how the Bible DEFINED the Western World. What would matter would be the story, the characters and how they interact with one another, if they engage the reader, interesting setting, plot development, the development of the characters through the story - not the fact that it closely reflects biblical understandings.

LionEyes, don't let this person derail you into thinking that your age has anything to do with your writing ability. There have been many great classics written through the years by young authors. "Don't let anyone despise your youth." (Different context, but it applies.)

I'm looking for that video - I don't remember the name of it! (And I'm sorry for taking so long to get back to you.)

By the way, I have character sketches going for a religious-fiction novel I plan to write myself. (I would prefer not to give details. I don't know if CC has first-right copyright to what is posted - I know that sounds silly, but would you know FACEBOOK does! - but if they did, then for me to give details and then publish them elsewhere would be illegal. Of course, most places with copyrights will likely only sue if they stand to lose money from it - which in this case I doubt it.) Let's just say if what you have proposed so far would cause a raucous, then my novel would be absolutely toe-curling. ;)

Meh me thinks Dante beat ye to the punch sister. I like writing too but this concept has been beaten like a dead horse.
