I am not sure why, but I have a fascination with dragons. (even though they don't really exist) but the bible mentions the dragons. I am not sure where or what it says, so can anyone tell me where please? My mom does not like dragons. I write books that involve dragons, but they are not evil or anything. Yet she doesn't like them and says they're evil... What does the bible say and what do you all think?

Satan is sometimes referred to as a dragon but that's symbolic of his destructive and evil nature. Dragons in and of themselves aren't evil. They're just big lizard-like creatures with huge wings. Dragons are just a mythologised take on dinosaurs. So, yes, dragons of sorts did exist some thousands of years ago (possibly until the Medieval times).

Don't forget Job 40. The Behemoth passage describes a sauropod dinosaur-type creature. A herbivorous dragon, if you will. :)

You are welcome and there are others that I have not looked up yet, but there is Rahab the dragon that was said to be the one that God sent to rain the fire and brimstone down on Sodom and Gamorra. Plus of course Revelations 12 were it pictures satan as a dragon.

That makes sense. Pterodactyls are the closest things I can think of to dragons. I always thought that since they were more mythological and fictional, then there isn't really a set definition to them and could be defined differently by different people I guess. But I didn't know what the bible said or anything. Thanks for your help!

Yeah I guess you can put dragons and dinosaurs in the same type classification. I just laugh at how I read in some of the earlier study bibles, concordinaces that they refer the behemoth has being a hippo, and the leviathan as being a crocodile.
Tell me have you every seen a hippo with a big tail like a tree, or a crocodile that has smoke come from its nostrils and fire from its mouth. I never have...

God didn't actually send a dragon to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah though, that's a parallel with the mythologized Babylonian dragon of darkness and chaos. Job passages on the other hand reference real-life creatures at the time (although the Leviathan seems to be referring to something both living at the time, but also something from pagan Mesopotamian mythology. Not one or the other, both.

Here is a supposed picture of a dragon like skeleton that was found in the sea near China. It has yet to be identified as any known dinosaur or fish skeletons found or known to us.

I guess that's what happens when much of the Church readily accepts evolutionary teachings and uniformitarinism (billions of years). It's very sad though. Dragons can't be real if dinosaurs died out 165 million years ago, but that's looking at it wrongly. Dinosaurs died out much more recently, in the last 800 or so years. We do a great disservice to God's Word when we import foreign ideas. We compromise the foundation of our faith and our Christian witness.

What was your source for the picture? I believe dragons = exaggerations of dinosaurs but there are also a lot of kooks out there on the Net and quite a few of them are Christians (or pretending to be).

Yeah they're recorded in the bible, right? I mean dinosaurs. I remember reading something about them or similar to them in the OT... not sure.
