Sabbath is not "only for Jewish people" it was and always has been for all followers of Yahweh:

Isayah 56:1-7, "This is what Yahweh says: Keep the judgments, and do justly; for My salvation is near, soon, to come, and My righteousness to be revealed. Blessed is the man who does this, and the son of man who lays hold on it; who keeps the Sabbaths without polluting; defiling, them; and keeps his hand from doing any evil. Do not let the son of the Gentile, who has joined himself to Yahweh, speak, saying; Yahweh has utterly separated me from His people. Nor let the eunuch say; Behold, I am a dry tree. For this is what Yahweh says: To the eunuchs who keep My Sabbaths, and choose those things which please Me, and hold fast to My covenant: I will give to them, in My House, even within My walls, a place and a Name equal to that of sons and of daughters; I will give them the Name of The Everlasting: YAHWEH; which will not be cut off. Also the sons of the Gentile who join themselves to Yahweh, to serve Him, and to love the Name of Yahweh, to be His servants--everyone who keeps the Sabbaths without polluting; defiling, them and who holds fast to My covenant--I will bring them to My holy mountain, and make them joyful in My House of prayer..."

Ms. Linda70: Do you see a distinction between the Jewish ceremonial Sabbath (which for the Christian is presumably abrogated) and the Lord's Day, the first day of the week when the disciples met together to break bread?
Yes, I do see a distinction between the Jewish ceremonial Sabbath (which was given as a special sign between God and Israel- Exodus 31:12-18) and the Lord's Day (the first day of the week), when the disciples met together to break bread. I also see a distinction between the Church and the nation of Israel. The Sabbath (Jewish ceremonial Sabbath) was never given to the Church or the Gentiles.

It's interesting that the Resurrection corresponds to the Feast of Firstfruits, and the Lord Jesus is the Firstfruits of them that slept, and we are now privileged to be in the fulness of revelation in Him rather than still under types and shadows.
Colossians 2:13-17 says it all:

Colossians 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
Colossians 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Colossians 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Colossians 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

(I'm a dispensationalist, as it happens.)
That's good to know...I am also a dispensationalist.

Colossians 2:16-23, "16Let no one, then, judge you in eating or in drinking, or in respect of a feast, or of a new moon, or of sabbaths, 17which are a shadow of the coming things, and the body [is] of the Christ; 18let no one beguile you of your prize, delighting in humble-mindedness and [in] worship of the messengers, intruding into the things he hath not seen, being vainly puffed up by the mind of his flesh, 19and not holding the head, from which all the body — through the joints and bands gathering supply, and being knit together — may increase with the increase of God.20If, then, ye did die with the Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances? 21— thou mayest not touch, nor taste, nor handle — 22which are all for destruction with the using, after the commands and teachings of men, 23which are, indeed, having a matter of wisdom in will-worship, and humble-mindedness, and neglecting of body — not in any honour, unto a satisfying of the flesh."

I think we have v16 down, I want to focus on 20-23, as to see context. Shaul (Paul) in nearly all his thoughts talks about a topic and then goes on to explain, he uses an advanced style of writing as his (worldly) education was beyond that of the other NT writers.

20If, then, ye did die with the Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances?

So he is saying if your dead to the world why would you subject yourself to its (the worlds) ordinances. To think he is saying if your dead to the world then why would you subject yourself to Yahweh"s/Yahshua's Commandments would make no sense, but he explains it further.

21— thou mayest not touch, nor taste, nor handle

the pharisees had a law in which you could not eat meat and cheese togather, or even within 4 houhs of eachother. Now this is not in Yahweh's Law even, Yahweh's Law says dont boil a child in its mothers milk (3 times) (the local pagans had this as a religious practice Yahweh did not want His people to partake in these evil pagan practices) the pharisees using something called "midrashic interpretation" the pharisees looked at it and said well since it says this three times it must meant three different things. SO THEY MADE UP THEIR OWN LAW, that was completely disconnected from Scripture and enforced it as from Yahweh.

22which are all for destruction with the using, after the commands and teachings of men,

So here very clearly he states "the commandments of men", now if you read from 16-20 you see he stays on topic, and 20 says basically if your dead to the world why do what the world tells you, so we can see he is still on this topic from v16. In this verse 22, he says "which are all for destruction", how does Sabbath lead to destruction and it would also have to be a "commandment of men" if there is ant commandment that is the farthest thing possible from being a "commandment of men" it is the Sabbath, it was from creation and it shows the AUTHORITY of the Creator, the mark of the Creator. Also tying a "commandment of men" to destruction Romans 8:13, "For if you live according to the commandments of men, you will die; but if, through the Spirit, you put to death; put an end to, the evildoing of mankind, you will live."

23which are, indeed, having a matter of wisdom in will-worship, and humble-mindedness, and neglecting of body — not in any honour, unto a satisfying of the flesh.

Pleasing of the pharisees by following the talmud. v22 for context = "after the commands and teachings of men"

you see the pharisees would have a problem if you did things according to Yahweh's instruction and not their ORAL LAW, this is shown in MATT 15, 23, mark 7:7-9, etc

If you kept the Sabbath NOT according to the Talmud but according to the Scriptures the Pharisees would have a problem.

Matt 12:10 & 12, "And, behold, there was a man who had a withered hand. Then they asked
Him, saying; Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath Days?--so that they might accuse Him."
"And how much more valuable is a man than a sheep? Therefore, it is Lawful to do righteousness on the Sabbath."

The "Rabbis" also made their own holidays, Haunnaka and Rosh hashanna and more. when they left babylon they even changed the names of the moons (months), and rosh hashanna even changes the time of the new year, commandment and ordinances of men. the calendar Yahweh instuted is Yahweh's calendar, the one who created it created the heavens and the earth. Our current calendar is the gregorian calendar, which goes back to the bablonian calendar. Yahweh said the days end and begin at sunset, not the "Rabbis."

% made up "feast days" the Pharisees may had, brought you to trial, beat, imprisoned, or even killed you for not honoring. The Talmud tells a story of another "Rabbi" disagreeing and wanting to follow the Scriptures, and the head Pharisees makes then man, on threat of death appear in public on a Scriptual Feast Day in a way that the man cant honor Yahweh, thus commanding him to disobey Yahweh.

Rosh Hashanah (New Year)
Rosh Hashanah occurs on the first and second days of Tishri (the 7th moon or month, Yahweh's year starts in the 1st month). In Hebrew, Rosh Hashanah means, literally, "head of the year" or "first of the year." Rosh Hashanah is commonly known as the Jewish New Year.

How does the year start in the 7th month? According to the Scriptures and Yahweh;s calendar the year starts in the 1st month, Abib.

Chanukkah
On the 25th of Kislev are the days of Chanukkah, which are eight... these were appointed a Festival with Hallel [prayers of praise] and thanksgiving. -Shabbat 21b, Babylonian Talmud

Tu B'Shevat
There are four new years... the first of Shevat is the new year for trees according to the ruling of Beit Shammai; Beit Hillel, however, places it on the fifteenth of that month. -Mishnah Rosh Hashanah 1:1

Purim
Is one of the most joyous and fun holidays on the Jewish calendar. It commemorates a time when the Jewish people living in Persia were saved from extermination.

Tisha B'Av
Five misfortunes befell our fathers ... on the ninth of Av. ...On the ninth of Av it was decreed that our fathers should not enter the [Promised] Land, the Temple was destroyed the first and second time, Bethar was captured and the city [Jerusalem] was ploughed up. -Mishnah Ta'anit 4:6

Feasts that Yahweh says should be kept for all generations are promoted in the NT:

1 Corinthians 5:7-8, "Therefore, purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new batch, since you are unleavened. For truly Yahshua our Passover was sacrificed for us. Therefore, let us keep the Feast, not with bold leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth."

Ms.Linda70: Seems like on this issue our thinking is quite similar, probably because we have been exposed to similar teaching and have found it to be Scriptural. :)

Blessings.

I mentioned this is the other on-going thread about the Sabbath...

I would like to hear the non-Sabbath keeping crowd quote God or Jesus' words on the Sabbath and the Law; not solely Paul's.

Matthew 11:25-30
[SUP]25 [/SUP]At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.
[SUP]26 [/SUP]Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.
[SUP]27 [/SUP]All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.
[SUP]28 [/SUP]Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
[SUP]29 [/SUP]Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
[SUP]30 [/SUP]For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Matthew 12:8 KJV
(8) For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.
Revelation 1:10 KJV
(10) I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,

Gen 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
Gen 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

What do we learn from this?

God sanctified this day and set it apart before sin came into the world. This means it was designed to be a permanent part of life on earth. It was made for perfect people on a perfect earth that was designed to last forever.

It was made for humanity before the Jewish nation existed.

Enough Said.

nowhere in the passage you posted does it say that God commanded anyone to observe the sabbath at that time...the first command regarding the sabbath was given to the israelites in exodus...

True but that command pointed back to the Sabbath mentioned above. Jesus said it was made for man again pointing back to when it was made.

The Sabbath is the centor of the whole Bible
It is the center of the law of God
it is the center of revelation
it is what armageddon is all about
it is the sign and seal of God
it is the center of christian experience
i t is the center of Worship

actually...

-christ- is the center of the whole bible...
-christ- is the center of the law of God...
-christ- is the center of revelation...
-christ's return- is what armageddon is all about...
the -holy spirit- is the sign and seal of God...
-christ- is the center of christian experience...
the -father and son and holy spirit- are the center of worship...

you have taken God and replaced him with sabbath keeping in a blatant act of -idolatry-

Paul kept the Sabbath...

Act 17:2 Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures

i didn't know debating with jews was restful...

When I was doing my homework I found that it was actually changed by the Roman Emperor Constantine in a vote.

Anyone who kept the Sabbath on Saturday like the Jews did, according to him, would be excommunicated from the church. Did you know that?

you had better do your homework over again...because all you have done is to fall for a common misconception...

constantine only codified what was already common practice within the christian church...

as early as the end of the first century AD the christians...including students of the apostles...had already abandoned sabbath keeping in favor of worship on sunday...

if necessary i can provide quotations from early christian writings to prove it...

I mentioned this is the other on-going thread about the Sabbath...

I would like to hear the non-Sabbath keeping crowd quote God or Jesus' words on the Sabbath and the Law; not solely Paul's.

why? if paul by the holy spirit's inspiration wrote something...then nothing jesus said could contradict that...otherwise God would be giving conflicting messages...

jesus is lord of every day...so it is incorrect to assume that when a day is called 'the lord's day' that it must be the sabbath...

in fact it is abundantly clear from the writings of the early church that 'the lord's day' was always understood to refer to sunday...the day of the lord's resurrection...and not to the saturday sabbath...

for certain purposes the year was considered to start in the seventh month...for example the year of jubilee began in the seventh month...

this constant rewriting of scripture that certain 'hebrew roots' people are fond of really needs to stop...the notions they are pushing are neither jewish nor christian...it is a whole new religion they are inventing for themselves that was unheard of until very recently...

True but that command pointed back to the Sabbath mentioned above. Jesus said it was made for man again pointing back to when it was made.

the sabbath being 'made for man' has nothing to do with when it was made...it is about the purpose of the sabbath...it was something given to people as a benefit...it was not something God intended for people to be enslaved to...

One one hand you say that Jesus is Lord of everyday then you refer to the Lord's day as Sunday. What matters is what the Bible says not the so-called church fathers.

The fact is the Bible calls the sabbath, the sabbath of the Lord. So because of what the Bible says the Lord's day in Revelation chapter 1 is the sabbath.

Nowhere in the Bible is the first day called the Lord's day. Do a search in all the Bible on the first day and you will not find it. Do a search on the 7th day and you will see it called the sabbath of the Lord.

Do we interpret scripture by the Early Fathers?

Or do we use scripture to interpret scripture?

Because if we are going to be bible Christians then Scripture is what defines its own terms.

Jesus said:

Mar 2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:
Mar 2:28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

Could you please show me a scripture in which the Lords Day means the day you think?

Everyday is a Sabbath day as some would like to defer from. A rest day is a day of rest, a Sabbath day is a day dedicated unto the Lord well are not all days supposed to be dedicated unto the Lord? Hair splitting about the Sabbath helps me how exactly? We are all trying to live what we know. Some know little some know more but none know it all unless they are at cc because some here profess to know it all and that is a clear deception. Some are so twisted they confuse themselves as cause others to stumble thus they are really stumbling blocks.

.

maybe not your "god" because apparently you are worshiping the Sabbath. at least if you truly believe your statements quoted above.

However, I believe the center of the WHOLE Bible is JESUS not a day of the week. The Holy Spirit is the center of the Christian experience. The Holy Spirit is the sign and seal of God.

the bible only uses the phrase 'the lord's day' once...and it doesn't specify what day of the week that was...

given that fact...and the fact that -every- day clearly belongs to the lord...insisting that the lord's day must refer to the sabbath has no scriptural basis whatsoever...

the point of referring to the early christian writings is to show that the church has always understood the lord's day to refer to the day of the resurrection...that is sunday...

the notion that 'the lord's day' refers to the sabbath was completely unheard of in the christian church until some cult started making that claim in modern times...
