My best friend and her husband agreed to do our engagement photos in exchange for taking them out to dinner. Affordable photos AND a double date = win!

I am at Singles chat now, just listening to people, it's kinda awesome to hear people's voice for the first time when I only know them by their posts and some by their avatar. Good stuff.

You know what? I have a difficult time trying to convey to any Christian why we must be concerned about the atrocities in the world. It just never gets to them. I think most Christians live in a shell and say 'Oh, God watches over me. So no matter what happens in the world, I will not be harmed.' And then they quote Psalms 91 to reinforce that belief. I do believe that God watches over me. But that does not mean you must feel pained when someone out there in the world is wronged. What about them? Shouldn't God watch over them too? And how would God watch over them if you don't pray for it?

The day I read about the 200 schoolgirls kidnapped in Nigeria, I couldn't sit still in office. It was gut wrenching to read about the news and I was disturbed about it for the whole day. I talked to my parents (who are very spiritual btw), and some of my youth team members regarding this. Their response was 'Oh, that's sad.' That left me more frustrated because there was not one person who was affected by the news. Eventually I came home, knelt down and said about 2000 praises for those children. I kept praising God that He may send His angels to protect these children and bring them home. I don't know if it made any difference, but I know I did what I could.

There is nothing more frustrating than talking to people in my church and at home and finding out that they are not upset by the injustice in the world. As long as they go to church, worship God and feel the hand of God in their lives, they believe that they are on the road to heaven. Maybe they are, but I don't want to be like them.

Lots of people block it out, because there is so much of it.

golly, i thought that was my birthright, as a woman!?! isn't that the main reason that women get married? so we can nag men?

and they're trying to take it away from us?!?

what's next? our lip gloss and heels? it's all madness!

*sigh* what is this world coming to, anyway?

I know! I have no idea why I laughed when I read that thread but I did. I'm not a nagger and I understand her point but why post it all over? There's a severe nag problem on CC I must fight the evil nags!

We can't block it out Donkeyfish. People are suffering and dying. Somebody needs to intercede and stand in the gap for them. God can't act unless we pray for them.

Gonna start discussing the part-time job. I forget if she said she'd pay or not. But right now, I don't really care. I just am tired of sitting around with no purpose and people accusing me of laziness.

i agree, but i got so worked up about all of it i had to take a step back for my own sanity.
if i'm going off the rails, i can't be of much help to anyone... working on a balance.
everything that's going on deeply saddens me, but i trust God.

i had to switch over to just relaxing and watching and giving my attention to less complex, more surface things just to stay intact.

though i still care and am reading my bible and praying, i'd like to be pressing in more and i will once i feel more stable.

to persnickety:

since your "goodbye thread is now closed, i'm taking to here to say what i'd like to have over there.

nick, i said most of what i wanted to say to you directly this afternoon, but i want you to know that many of us are hurting--not just for what we are hearing, or observing in the world, but the abundance of painful events that we have no choice but to observe, to feel, to be made a part of. while i may not talk about a lot of it in the forum--i feel these, and many other atrocities quite deeply. so much so that if i don't protect (or rather limit) my exposure to them, i'd be a worthless puddle of emotions that would become incapable of getting anything else done.

you are NOT alone in your pain, even though i know it feels that way right now.

much of this forces me to trust God like a child, learning to accept that there is only what i can do, and be called to do. that while i can't explain or understand this, i know that my Father sees all, and is a just God. that my part is to be obedient, to seek Him with my heart and soul, and to trust Him both with my life and the many things i can't understand.

sometimes that is a daily surrender.

you, your heart and mind matter to me and this community, and we grieve with you. there will always be the insensitive and uncaring, but this is a small family that stands with you in your pain and struggles and accepts you for who you are and what you're going through. i hope that this coming week off will renew your spirit and give you some much needed respite.

i am praying for you, and for so many others right now struggling under the weight of heavy burdens. if there is anything i can do, please don't hesitate to ask.

*big hugs* and much love, sweet sister.

We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair;persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.
2 corinthians 4:8-10

I wrote a reply to PersNickety in her goodbye thread and when I tried to submit, was told it was closed. I don't believe in coincidence much....

Could be our little warrior just woke up. (a little grumpy, albeit, but still). Is there a little more to this Christianity we live by PersNickety? I've been going through this period too of....I guess you could say awakening, but it's more like connecting dots? The Islamic nation has spread by 20 million into Europe. Could that have even been possible if 10 million Jews and subsequent future families weren't murdered and obliterated in the Holocaust? I’m not the smartest here – am I connecting the right dots? Does evil begat evil? The Glory of my God of Israel could not be more apparent to me when the entire Babylonian Middle East hurls threats and lies and errant rockets and all the while cowers at a State of Israel no larger than New Jersey. Do you think it's any accident that Israel's few allies would not fall under attack? Is it error that public opinion oscillates with lies and mis-truths making our leaders waffle and sway this way and that with the public wind? Even here there are angry watchmen bent on dividing us, calling this one Christian and that one not, maybe even fully aware of the damage inflicted. No - I think you're waking up, Praise God, to the understanding of more noble responsibility we share in this brotherhood of Christ!

Persnickty, since I didn't get to say goodbye, or know the reason until Gyspy said something, I'll say it here.

GOODBYE! I will miss you!

persnickety has asked me to relay this message to you all:

I am sorry if I have judged any of you falsely. I will be taking a reprieve, and may be back on under another name.

Take care, PersNickety

speaking for myself, i would appreciate it if we keep our sister in prayer, along with the many impacted by these crisis events. additionally, i can't help but notice so many others in this forum are struggling as well.

you are ALL in my prayers, and thoughts tonight. *hugs*

I don't know what happened with PersNickety or why she left but I told she comes back. I've never spoken directly to her but my minor interactions with her were always pleasant. I am praying for her and I will miss her a lot. Her presence here makes a difference to me.

Yeah...this whole thing is saddening.

What sickened me the most is, I saw a picture from a news article of a guy all bright-eyed and smiling with a mic in one hand, and his arm around a crying little girl.
