James 4:17 "He who knows the good he ought to do and does not do it- sins." For example, if you know to read the bible to see what God wants you to do yet chose not to- you are guilty of sin.

Sin to me as an unbeliever was nothing it was just a way of saying you did something wrong no big deal, but when I was saved sin became known to me as an infectious disease that corrupts our souls, truly a disgusting thing. A direct disobedience of God that is unusually powerful as it is strong enough to make it where no one is able to fully obey God.

Jesus Blood is the only antidote

Well couple of points to ponder......

Sin to a lost man is death and leads to hell unless they repent and trust into the saving faith of Christ
Sin to a saved man breaks fellowship with God until repentance and change

All are sinners as there is none good no not one......and if we say that we have no sin (present context)....deceived and no truth in us....

I interested in your views; What is sin to a sinner and sin to a believer?

Sin to a sinner is the one he/she commits. Sin to a believer is the one he/she omits.

I, thank you. :) (Wave hand and sign of peace.) World Peace! :)

Sin is sin, its doesn't change from person to person.. Sin to sinners is sin to believers, both are sinners. Sin is anything outside of the righteousness of God, whether we acknowledge God or not.

"Sin is transgression of the law", 1John 3:4

"Unrighteousness is sin", 1John 5:17

And sin cannot be charged against a believer.

"Who shall lay ANY THING (this includes sin) to the charge of God's elect", Rom 8:33

Believers cannot be charged with the sin of transgression of the law as we're not under the law (Rom 8:2, Rom 10:4, Gal 3:25, Gal 5:18).

Remember that "whatever the law says it says to those under it", Rom 3:19.

Believers cannot be charged with the sin of unrighteousness as our faith is counted for righteousness, Rom 4:5.

Jesus truly set us free from sin (John 8:34-36, Rom 6:7). Hence believers have "ceased from sin" (1Pet 4:1), we "cannot sin" (1John 3:9). This is not saying we're perfect in physical behavior. Instead it refers to our position, as believers, in Christ.

But a sinner, however, is one who denies Christ. Sinners/unbelievers are unrighteous.
Unbelief in Jesus is the sin the world is convicted of, John 16:9.
Sin to a sinner is rebellion against God's will that we believe on Jesus, John 6:40.

Sin can be charged to believers, and the bible not only says this but talks about how believers get entangled in them again.
Jesus even gave the parable of the lost sheep to show this, and says that when a sheep ( believer ) gets caught back up in sin the only way to be brought back into the fold is through repentance.

The bible speaks constantly of believers who return back to sin and the warnings of doing this.

Sin is what makes us think and do all the things God hates and does not like.

How does one make themselves a sinner?

Gal 2:18
For if I build again those things which I destroyed (righteousness by works of the law) , I make myself a transgressor/Sinner

If a believer turns back to righteousness by works of the law then they make themselves a sinner as they fail to keep the law perfectly as it requires (James 2:10).

If we continue to believe on Jesus there is no sin that can be charged against us, Rom 8:33.
A believer's life is hid with Christ in God (Col 3:3) and in Christ there is no sin, (1John 3:5).

But if we get entangled again with the yoke of bondage (righteousness by works of the law) then we make ourselves a sinner deserving of the just death penalty.

The law is not of faith, Gal 3:12. And those who turn back to the law only make themselves a sinner. Such are in unbelief/sin, John 16:9.

Here is the Biblical definition of sin:

Romans 6:23 (KJV)
[SUP]23 [/SUP]For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Greek Word: ἁμαρτία
Transliteration: hamartia
Literally, it means "to miss the mark"

The question then becomes: What is the "mark?"

The answer is: the glory of God.

Anything and everyone not God misses the mark of the glory that is God.

There is only One God.

That which bends God's Will.
To an unbeliever...an object of ridicule.
To the believer...an object of dread.

Whatever is not of faith is sin.

Sin is transgression of the law. . .the Mosaic law in the OT, and the law of Christ in the NT.

The only consequential sin of the unbeliever is his unbelief,
which is eternal condemnation to God's wrath (Ro 5:9).

As the old saying went...
"despite inflation, the wages of sin remain the same"

I thank you all for your comments, I agree, sin to a sinner is unbelief to the Word (Jesus Christ is the Son of God) and sin to a believer is disobedience to the Word. God Bless you all.

What is striking places like CC are those (granted a few of which are simply trolls, but at least the real Jew-lite non-trolls, cultists) who dance around this idea of Christianity involving keeping a list of Mosaic laws they never quite define, beyond Ten Commandments type vagueness, alluding to sabbaths or feasts: this presumed righteousness is so Pharisaical and absurd.

Christianity is much more strict, as to sin, than the Ten Commandments, our Lord Jesus flat-out calling sin even bad thoughts of hate or lust, equivalent to murder or adultery, or pride and pride of life, sin anything corrupt or negligent, which falls short of the holiness of our God. So, I really don't know what righteousness the Jew-lites are carping about in the endless bickering, when the OT is really only the tip of the iceberg of codifying sin, when our Lord Jesus proved the Pharisees His worst enemies. These Mosaic law carping, self righteous people really make no sense, at all, barring a recipe how one is going to achieve the absolute holiness of God in the flesh, despite the clear teachings of Romans 7 and 8. And folks, please don't hold your breath for that.

1 John 1:8-10 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

(One must also wonder why many of the cult people here feel the need to hide whose extra-Biblical teachings they parrot, when some of us know you by your doctrines of these false prophets, not really fooling much of anybody.)

humans are sick and the cause of that sickness is cravings.
Cravings are not the same as desires.
Desires are normal and healthy and do not cause suffering.
You desire things because they are desirable.
You crave things because they are forbidden. (Much like the forbidden fruit)

The difference
between "poo" and "s---",
between "black person" and "n---",
between "science enthusiast" and "geek"
between "craving" and "sin"
is that we think of the latter of each pair as being all-bad. Good for nothing. Fit only for damnation. This is called "projecting".
In reality nothing is all-good (cool) or all-bad. Even God would have a shadow (despite his being completly selfless), though many people, consciously or unconsciously, think otherwise.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Splitting_(psychology)
Splitting (also called all-or-nothing thinking) is the failure in a person's thinking to bring together both positive and negative qualities of the self and others into a cohesive, realistic whole. It is a common defense mechanism used by many people. The individual tends to think in extremes (i.e., an individual's actions and motivations are all good or all bad with no middle ground.)

sin is anything we do which is self motivated. it does not matter what it is, that is why a non believer can do what we declare is a good act, yet it still is sin, because it is self motivated.

yes, i can give to the poor. and it can be sin.

Yes, I can go to church, and it can be sin

Yes, I can tell the truth, and it can be sin.

this is what the lawyers do not get, they look to the letter, and think they are good. instead of looking to the soul, and seeing how sinful they really are.

Forebrain (CEO) decides what to do
Midbrain (input) decides when to do it
Cerebellum (output) decides how to do it

the cerebral cortex (forebrain) is CEO.
You are the forebrain.
The midbrain and cerebellum are your helpers that take care of routine tasks so you can concentrate on more important things. Most information goes straight from input to output bypassing the forebrain.
The forebrain is the source of imagination

the midbrain is input.
The midbrain has thousands of eyes and can raise the alarm when something needs attention
These alarms exert an irresistible all-powerful force upon you. Fortunately for us the midbrain only wants what is best for us and never asks anything for itself.
These alarms are capable of giving us infinite mental energy and power.
The midbrain is the true "sun" that lights up our mind.

the cerebellum (hindbrain) is output.
The cerebellum has thousands of hands and can juggle thousands of things at once but has no clue "what" it is doing.
The cerebellum takes care of simple procedures so the forebrain can concentrate on more important issues.
It also helps the midbrain accomplish its tasks.
You point at the target and the cerebellum shoots. (But sometimes it "misses the mark" that you set for it)
When we fall from the garden we become disconnected from the midbrain and the clueless cerebellum usurps many of its functions
