Christians with tattoos and/or body piercings: Is it sinful, is it just a personal choice?.what are your thoughts? Once a person comes to Christ should they let their piercings close? Should they conceal their tattoos? Should they refrain from getting additional tattos and piercings? Thoughts? Facts?

Well me personally I don't have any tattoos/piercing or even thinking about getting one. So all I have to say. Regarding those things. It up to you and how you want to represent yourself and how you want others to see you(Having tattoos/piercing isn't sinful, but you need to care about your body. You are beautiful just the way you are, so u don't need to add anything else on your body). Well God said come as you are. So he doesn't care much how you look as long as you come to him and have a relationship with him. In a way, you will look at yourself and even think of changing how you look because of how he makes you feel very special regardless of how you look. So you will want to please him more and make yourself look even better by removing the piercings/tattoos etc.

I have tattoos and while most of them arent visible, sometimes I feel self conscious when Im at bible study and one if them shows. I know.my body is my temple, and I feel like body art...defaces it. At the same time, I love it but I never want someone to look at me and not see my heart becayse they are stuck on my "art"

Remember, Search is your friend. If there's a topic you want to ask about but it's something that has probably already come up, you don't have to sort through pages of thread titles. Just Search for it, and remember to specify search by thread titles (so Search won't spit up every thread that mentions that term somewhere in a post.)

I can save you the trouble and sum up everything in those threads in just one sentence..

Some are against it, some are for it.

If the tattoo(s) are not in reverence to GOD then you can't be a billboard. Piercings not need to worry that as long as one can deal with judgement.

All in all. As Christians we have eternal. Gonna get a new glorified body anyway.

IKR?! It didn't take reading too many strings to realize that its split. But some of the comments were interesting. I well search going forward before I post a question/topic although Im sure that plenty of topics get recycled all the time.

I'm actually covered in tattoos. Lion and the lamb on my left shoulder. WWJD & WWND on my knuckles. Forgiven on my fingers. Redeemed on the lower fingers. An eagle in accordance of the book Isaiah 40:31. Faith, Love, Hope around my sides and back of my neck. I have a hammerhead shark with a cross on it's back. My undying love and battle for our Lord and GOD. My right arm is covered with the three wise kings, baby Jesus. The sermon on the mount. The lords resurrection and the Fathers hands above the three crosses. The Trinity shield on my left chest. The Holy Spirit at the center of my chest. And I'm gonna get more.

So if you have any your not alone. I'm a professional fighter. I'm half naked when I fight so I thought I'm gonna be a bill board for the Lord Jesus Christ.

And I'm not ashamed but I'm so proud we have a GOD who loves us.

God Bless

Leviticus 19:28, "Do not cut your bodies for the dead, and do not mark your skin with tattoos. I am the Lord." (NLT)
This needs to be read in context with surrounding texts. To me God is referring to the pagan rituals and telling us not to participate in this and then consider verse 26 and 27... then ask yourself... Do I eat non-Kocher meats and go for the occasional haircut without participating in pagan religious rituals?

People are going to have different opinions and views on this topic... It's up to you to decide.

Be who you are... be comfortable in your own skin. God searches the hearts of men and woman... He isn't going to bypass you because you have art displayed on your body....

The cuttings and marks in Leviticus 19:28 were associated with heathen practices and the Jews were forbidden to take part in it in order to remain set apart from them.

Since the New Testament does not address the issue of tattooing specifically, one must be guided by principle. Any practice that is vulgar, gaudy, or a distraction to one’s Christian influence should be avoided. But, to some extent, this is a matter of taste and judgment. No one can presume to prescribe conduct for everyone else in matters of this nature. Is it appropriate for women to wear make-up? How about permanent eye-liner? May men and women adorn themselves with jewelry? May they pierce their ears? Christians must attempt to employ sound judgment in such matters, and give no occasion to the adversary for reviling (1 Timothy 5:14). Moreover, a Christian’s personal privacy and right of choice must be respected in ambiguous areas of judgment.

In the New Testament we read that our bodies are not our own. This teaching is found specifically in 1 Corinthians 6:12-20:

“The body is meant for the Lord” 1 Corinthians 6:13.
“Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 6:19.
“You are not your own; you were bought at a price.” 1 Corinthians 6:19.
“Honor God with your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:20.

I do it because I know who I am. It's sad many do not. I am a Child of the Way and a Child of God. The one true GOD Jesus. The 2nd Person of the Godhead bodily and in fullness.

It's like I see Christians in Church raising there arms up high and sing praises in worship. It's like I see Christians being baptized within the Church. It's placing a ring ones finger in marriage. These are outwards witness ideals to show those their love for a GOD. I chose to get tattoos to cover the many scars I have from gotten from growing up in the wrong crowds. I wanted to cover them to stop reminding me of what happened to myself. And it was not GOD who led me to suffering. I did.

So I thought what makes me happy? Jesus makes me happy just thinking about Him. Then a got one then two then I kinda got carried away. But, I'm happy and proud that my tattoos are an outward witness for my Lord and my GOD. It's not self gain. It wasn't to pick up women. It's a constant reminder that I'm in love with an Arab man. A GOD who belongs to the whole wide world. Not the Jews as they once thought and still do. That were taught to separate themselves even circumcision. Didn't work did it.

And, yes. Jesus would not bypass me at all. Thinking to the cross of the thief on His right. I believe the thief was tattooed up with sin(not literally) but GOD looked into his heart and felt his and it was true. The thief will be in paradise with our Lord and our GOD.

God Bless

It is sinful. When someone comes to Christ, they should not get anymore tattoos.
