Publix changes its coupon policy
LAKELAND, FL (WFLA) - Starting this month, Publix Supermarkets is changing their coupon policy that sets limits on how many coupons one household can use.
The changes will not affect the average customer, but extreme couponers who love their savings will see a difference. Some of the important differences include: Dollars-off-total-order coupons will be limited to one per day; limit of 8 of the same coupon per day; and no mobile coupons will be accepted.
A spokesperson for the Lakeland-based grocery chain said the move was implemented to provide store associates and customers clarity on what's accepted and to help all customers have access to products.
NBC 26 sister station, WFLA News Channel 8 caught up with Polk County's best known Extreme Couponer Missy Eby to get her take on the changes. Eby was featured on TLC's show Extreme Couponing.
Here are the store's revised policies:
- Publix will only accept a manufacturer's coupon and either a Publix or a competitor's coupon on the same item. Maximum of two coupons per item.
- Publix will not accept coupons presented via a mobile phone or device.
- Publix will limit coupon redemption to eight of the same coupons per day, per household.
- Money due back to the customer at the end of a transaction involving coupons will only be provided on a Publix gift card.
- For a buy-one-get-one-free (BOGO) offer, each item is considered a separate purchase.
- Manager's approval is needed for individual coupons above $5.
- Dollars-off-total-order coupons will be limited to one Publix and one competitor's coupon per day, per household. The total order before coupons must be equal to or greater than the combined purchase requirements indicated on the coupon(s) presented. We consider competitor's coupons for dollars off groups of items to be a dollars-off-total-order coupon and will only allow one per day, per household.
- All coupons must be originals, not copied.
- Publix will not accept coupons that are printed incorrectly. For example, a coupon missing a size requirement or other standard coupon details.
- Publix will not accept percent-off-items or percent-off-total-order coupons.
- Manufacturer's digital offers cannot be combined with manufacturer's paper coupons on the purchase of the same item.
- Coupons are only accepted for the identical item sold at Publix, subject to any restrictions on the coupon.
A spokesperson for the grocery chain said the move was implemented to provide store associates and customers clarity on what's accepted and to help all customers have access to products.
“Be assured that whenever we make improvements, we incorporate customer feedback and research into our decisions. We look forward to continuing to help our customers find great deals and save money while shopping at Publix,” Media and Communications Manager Nicole Krauss said.
