Do Bible Numbers Have Meaning or Is It Just Useless Filler Information That We Should Ignore within the Bible?
The use of numbers in the Bible should not be confused with numerology in which occult mysticism is attached to figures
their combinations, and numerical totals. Numerology had Babylonian roots and these practices are not pleasing to God. Deu.18:10-12
Numbers can be either have literal or symbolic meaning in the Bible depending on the context.
The number six at times represents imperfection and deficiency
(Revelation 13:18) . . .This is where it calls for wisdom: Let the one who has insight calculate the number of the wild beast, for it is a man’s number, and its number is 666.
Seven is used frequently in the Scriptures to signify completeness, as in completing a job, or a cycle. When used in conjunction with God it can completeness symbolizes, perfection, purity.
Psalms 12:6 And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible,like gold refined seven times.
Seventy-seven, a repetition of seven in a number, was equivalent to saying “indefinitely” or “without limit.” Jesus counsels Christians to forgive their brothers to that extent.
Ten is a number denoting fullness, entirety
The fullness of the test or period of test that God determines for his servants or allows them to undergo is expressed at Revelation 2:10: “Do not be afraid of the things you are about to suffer. Look! The Devil will keep on throwing some of you into prison that you may be fully put to the test, and that you may have tribulation ten days.”
The ten plagues poured upon Egypt fully expressed God’s judgments upon Egypt.
