*sigh... Rhinestone Cowboy... how dreadful.
I was born during the end of the reruns season apparently, but the last show that was number one was All In The Family. Good show, prefer that to the previous answer. haha
And Gerald Ford was president.
Also, yes, i needed Google (even to see who was president haha).

Heh I started looking at the TV Shows and everything then kinda went overboard, nevertheless, found some real interesting stuff, some of which I knew all ready, some of which I did not. Either way interesting idea indeed for a topic.

The year 1989 AD.

(Lost In Your Eyes by Debbie Gibson for particularly when I was born.)

(George HW Bush was President of the US when I was born, though Reagan left office earlier in the year)

How Ironic...I had this song stuck in my head for the longest time earlier this year, too!

#1 Song: 'Straight Up" by Paula Abdul

#1 TV Show...seems to be Saturday Night Live or possibly Sesame Street...

Bush Senior was Pres, and another interesting note...Atari sued Nintendo that year.

**Sidenote: You said 'when you were born' so these are all based around February of 1989.

Number #1 if we go by US Billboard was Good Thing by Fine Young Cannibals.

Number #1 in Australia:

Not sure which one I prefer. Both are pretty good songs. Roxette are obviously the much more 80s sounding, though.

I suspect one of the big shows then was Star Trek: TNG. I don't know how exactly to find that out, though, let alone for Australia.

President would have been George Bush Snr. The Australian Prime Minister at the time was Bob Hawke.

I prefer Roxette, personally. This song, I believe, is much more played and remembered from the 80's than Good thing.

Yeah, it's definitely the more distinctive of the songs. If you were going to pick a FYC song from that era, it would probably be She Drives Me Crazy anyway.

You Americans obviously can't get anything right :p

I stopped reading at Steve Winwood. Such a good muso - I saw him out here playing support for Steely Dan a couple of years back - he's still got it!

It's funny - all the musos I most enjoy hit their peaks before I was born. I'm just that kind of guy :p
