uve done what needed to b done asking for forgiveness now comes the hard part , forgiving yourself..what we need to remember is when we continue to have these guilt feelings when we know God has forgiven us is that we still have a concious, it hasnt been seared by a hot iron1 timothy 4:2 and that my friend is a good thing as long as we dont let it get us down and we can move forward.pick yourself up brush yourself off and move on

It all depends on what the sin was (I am NOT asking!!! no need for me nor anyone else to know--it's all between you and God and anyone else it affects)
I ask for forgiveness from God, forgiveness from whomever it may have hurt, and try to correct things as best I can from there, also I repent and try to go forth in faith and trust that I can do better in future.

Yeah, I think if its something that is a pattern, some measure needs to be taken such as what I suggested in the previous post.
Also, after a sin is committed, I think its good to just get on one's knees and meditate on your sad state and the horribleness of estrangement from God which is something I feel when I've sinned consciously and willingly. Some may disagree with me on this and I could be wrong, but I just know its easy to become flippant about sinning and then asking for forgiveness and I think it pays to really wallow in remorse and think about how its hurt God and done immeasurable damage in the big, eternal scheme of things. People may even end up in hell because we are not walking in the Spirit and reaching out to those we could have touched for Christ if we hadn't willfully sinned and lost our power.
After a time of this on your knees, don't just be sorry because you feel bad and your peace is gone, but truly repent which means make a decision to not fall like that again. Then accept Christ's cleansing and believe Him for it based on His Word and then thank Him and praise Him for it.

While I do not know your situation or what it is you are facing, I have dealt with habitual sin in my own life so I will offer a bit of advice from that perspective and if it does not pertain to you and your situation then feel free to overlook this post. However, if this does refer to read then please read closely.
You must not approach habitual sin in the same "casual" manner that you would the occasional unintentional "slip up". Habitual sin is often times addictive in nature thus the more you give in to this sin, the more likely you are willingly to give in to it again sometime in the future.
Jesus said Himself (I'm paraphrasing here) "If your eye makes you sin, pluck it out. For it is better to enter into the kingdom with one eye than to be to be cast into the lake of fire ... (you get the idea)"
Now I'm not saying that if your sin involves your eyes that you should pluck them out however, you should treat it with the same sense of urgency. That is why it is an absolute necessity that rid yourself of anything that the enemy could use to tempt you. I believe that this isw one of many examples of what Jesus meant by "crucifying the flesh" (ie. maintaining self control).
For example if by chance you do struggle with lust (as I have in the past) and your temptation leads you to dabble with pornography then it may be a good idea to get rid of your internet connection or, as son of jay suggested, get your self an accountability partner and some accountability software. I would also seriously consider getting rid of cable / satellite tv or at least certain stations that show explicit content.
Also... if you have wrestled with lust for a significant amount of time, then you've probably noticed that your temptations seem to return at their strongest after a certain amount of time has passed (which is typical of habitual behavior). For me it was roughly every two weeks or so. So with that in my mind, I strongly suggest setting aside at least one day near the end of your "cycle" to fast, pray, and focus on the Lord. Basically starving your flesh and recharging your spiritual batteries. Personally, I try to fast for three days, every other weekend. I'm telling you, fasting works wonders!

canadian, we all slip up as Christians......There is a war in every believer to do what is right.....Flesh is battling the spirit( Paul battled it and speaks on this subject in Romans 7: 17-24 )....We will be able to fully overcome the flesh when we meet Christ(see 1 John 3:2, Psalm 17:15)...When Christians sin, it grieves the Holy Spirit(Ephesians 4:30), God is a God of mercy and will forgive you of your sins if you confess them to God(1 John 1:9)...If you are dealing with an addiction or a sin that is habitual, help one another in prayer(James 5:16)........David, a man after God's own heart comitted adultery with Bathsheba and murdered her husband to cover up the initial sin......The sin grieved David, and led to repentance from his sins(Psalm 51)....He cried out "restore unto me the joy of thy salvation".....A believer that acknowledges his sins in his daily life is result of the Holy Spirit working conviction on his/her heart....

If by chance your issue is indeed one of sexual immorality, it is just like any other form of compulsive behavior and can be overcome IN THIS LIFE once you are fully aware of what you are dealing (a very real addiction) with and understand how to break the cycle. Of course we can do nothing without the Lord...

Thanks for your comment. I agree, what I've been doing is making mental imprints as to how terrible and guilty I'm feeling now. I feel I should feel guilty and ashamed for a short while (not to wallow unhealthy for days about it). I want to remember exactly how bad I feel now, so the next time I'll have a negative association with it and not even want to go there. It's garbage anyway, and I know I'm better than that. It also robs me of my peace. Not only that, but I feel like a hypocrite and liar when I stumble in that area. How can I witness to others when I'm looking at porn? I can't. I think that's what Jesus meant when he said along the lines of if you sin your serving satan and not God. It's not possible to serve both. It's a choice. I've asked Jesus to cleanse me, forgive me, and give me the strength. I will still stumble from time to time, but I will serve and praise Jesus forever! amen!

Hey. thanks for your comment. I don't mind saying that my sin was porn, if I can help someone else by being honest about it...why not?! It is a habitual sin that I was close to overcoming last year (yes. I saw demons for real. demons are totally real beings, and they're basically everywhere so make sure you have protection in Jesus Christ. It scared me enough that it changed my life). I went from a habitual addiction on a daily basis (i.e. slave) to not looking at it for weeks. Which was amazing when you consider it was daily before. I still relapse though. I know with Jesus, I can have victory.

Dear friend, this is a tough one, like someone else said, you have to forgive yourself, this, for me, is not as easy as it sounds, I believe that when I slip, I have to repent, turn away from , whatever it is that I slipped at, and then even after making the decision that I am not going to do that certain thing anymore, sometimes I will catch myself almost doing it, what has been helping me most lately is, surrounding myself with the Lord, especially music, on the way to work for example, I will play my favorite song, Our God is an Awesome God, over and over , all thwe way to work, I purposely am trying to get this song stuck in my head, so that when I get to work and the day goes along, I can keep thinking of that song, not watching tv that much has also helped, monitoring my thoughts, staying focused on the King, take care and best wishes......

It happens and thank God for His infinite grace and mercy! However, I truly believe that, while no one is perfect, that we can overcome various struggles in this life. After all, the bible doesn't say, we can overcome all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens us, for nothing. We have to put our faith in Him and follow his example.

I admire your humility in admitting this. I'll join you and state that I've struggled with this as well. I've started a similar thread on this subject and like I stated there, I believe this thing may be THE most potent weapon Satan is using against the modern Christian world right now. Men are to be the spiritual leaders of the home so if he can cut them down, the whole family is affected. We should rise up and pray for one another and mourn over what's already been lost. Its so terribly widespread. I read one study that said it is more addictive than cocaine or heroin. that's what we're up against and that's why we must pray and fast because if we fight this in the flesh we will lose. Thanks for sharing your struggle.

I said a prayer for the both of us brother. Every prayer helps. Praise Jesus, we serve an awesome God! I agree, I fought a few other addictions (i.e. smoking), but nothing like this. I do believe it's like cocain or heroin, it's even worse because it's free!!!
One very important thing for EVERYONE reading this. One thing I've learned about the demonic, is that satan wants people to struggle ALONE!! the enemy HATES people coming out and admitting they need a prayer or have a problem. I believe that's one of the main benefits of FELLOWSHIP. the enemy would much rather me and others to keep this to themself so that we can continue struggling WITHOUT PEOPLE KNOWING THAT OTHERS ARE GOING THROUGH THE EXACT SAME THING. he hates it. he can't stand it. HE WANTS US TO THINK IT'S ONLY US. It's not. We all struggle with different things. We have fellowship, and most importantly, we have Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour EVERY STEP OF THE WAY! All praise to God! AMEN!

i also agree with what another person said in here about prayer and fasting, and truley repenting. As i myself in the past have fallen. Also, maybe get away from whatever is causing you to sin. I mean if that means stepping away from the computer for a few days, than do it. But the struggles of a person can be most difficult, and i do realize this may be a sapport system for you regarding Christian chat. But brother another thing you can do. When those desires come to you, is get on your face before God and start praying. you may have already done this, but this is a suggestion.

I also pray you are healed in jesus name of this addiction. And you know what , you will be according to God's word. Look at all the people Jesus healed in the bible. Read matthew. Jesus said, Mat 9:29Then He touched their eyes, saying, "According to your faith let it be to you."
i mean even so brother when are faith is lacking, God is still merciul and and sits on His thron and is there for you. Jesus is our great intercessor, and is praying on your behalf right now before the Father Amen. Don't worry, God said, i have thrown your sins as far as the east is to the west and remembered them no more. Brother, if you are still fealing guilt or condemnation, that is not from Christ. He forgave you the moment you asked. now are problems are as christians, we don't always recieve the forgivness right away. So next time you ask , Father forgive me in Jesus name, recieve it, and belive it. That is why Jesus died on the cross after all, and rose agian. Not only so we could have that forgivness of our sins, but also, that we could walk into the thone room of grace of our incredable, wonderful Father. Amen!
