JERUSALEM – Jewish settlers attacked American consular officials Friday during a visit the officials made to the West Bank as part of an investigation into claims of damage to Palestinian agricultural property, Israeli police and Palestinian witnesses say.
The incident is likely to further chill relations between Israel and the United States, already tense over American criticisms of Israeli settlement construction in the West Bank and east Jerusalem, and Israeli perceptions that President Barack Obama is only lukewarm in his support of Israeli diplomatic and security policies.
Settlers have often spoken against what they call foreign interference in their affairs, but this is the first known physical attack against diplomatic personnel.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said that a small number of settlers threw rocks at officials who had come to an area near the Jewish settlement outpost of Adi Ad in two consular vehicles to look into Palestinian claims that settlers uprooted scores of Palestinian olive trees the day before.

Sounds like a bunch of outstanding citizens. No why they would destroy Palestinian livelihood.

Your anti-Jewish and Anti-Israel hate is so obsessive that you obviously need help.

How about posting all the news stories of Palestinians throwing stones and Jews? THis is a daily occurance, especailly at borders and in Jeruslem.

This report gives the other side, no wonder why they had stones thrown at them,

'Deport US Consulate Staff Who Threatened Jews' - Defense/Security - News - Arutz Sheva

Acting Head of the Samaria Regional Council, Yossi Dagan, has filed a request to the Minister of the Interior Gilad Erdan demanding he immediately expel the American Consulate staff members who entered the Samaria village of Adei Ad Friday and threatened Israeli Jews with an M-16.

Some hotheads pick up rocks and throw them at representatives of the US government. I doubt this incident alone will chill relations between the two countries unless they want to let it happen.

What they threw some rocks at some nosey carpetbagger types from Washington ... big deal? To "Stone" someone is a deliberate act to try and kill them...this was not that at all!

I was ready to say, they would probably receive the same treatment where I live...and justifiably so. ;)

I'm not sure whether this is backwards sarcasm so I'm going to ask this question; don't you think the fact that the Israeli border guards shoot Palestinian kids in such circumstances (whereas none of these Israelis were shot while throwing rocks at the US visitors) says a lot about the inequality in this conflict?

At least Drett is posting interesting articles to read and discuss. To clarify, he is definitely an anti-Zionist, but I have seen nothing to substantiate the antisemitism he is routinely accused of.

As an ethnic Jew, I'm pretty good at spotting that sort of thing.

Yea go float a spy ship in the middle of a war and bad things might happen....we know if the muslims get a missle they try to kill the nearest jew or Christian...or American or anyone really that go along with their insanity... The only reason they don't kill more is because they have some fear of us and Israel...

I checked his threads every one has something to do with being against the Jews.I'm glad you are not offended. Can you be more specific about anti-Zionists? Against Jerusalem being the holy city of the Jews,of Israel having a homeland,in that vein?

Anti-Zionists are, by definition, against Zionism. Zionism is the idea that the Jews have a claim to the Land of Israel via birthright. That it is a set-apart national homeland for their people and that they have a right to settle the land in its entirety.

Mind you, the Land of Israel (Eratz Israel) encompasses areas that are illegal for the Israeli state to occupy according to strictly interpreted international law and the original intent of the British that established said law. I don't agree with everything Human says concerning Israel, but his posts on that matter are pretty solid in my humble opinion.

Either way, that's the rub. Does the Israeli state have the right to occupy Eratz Israel? How you answer determines if you are a Zionist or Anti-Zionist.

Mind you not all the Zionists and Anti-Zionists, within their own camps, agree on the reasons why Israel is justified or unjustified in settling respectively or even the extent of settlement.

I'll sub-divide the groups into two different sections to make things even clearer. We'll call the first group clerical Zioninsts or clerical anti-Zionists. These people have a more "winner take all" philosophy because they treat the justification for Jewish settlement or the argument against it as a matter of religious dogma.

"Allah set aside the area for Islam, so Jews living on the coast are an affront to Allah."

or

"G-d set aside this area for the Jewish people. It is ours by right."

or

"God granted the land to the Jews, it is their birthright. They ought to occupy regardless of what the U.N. says."

Now we have a second kind of Zionist or anti-Zionist who relies mainly on political theory. These people are less-absolute and generally think that the state of Israel has a place in the world, but the question is what kind of a place and how much.

Your more fervent Zionist political theorist type would say something like.

"According to the self-determination theory of nations, the Israelis have a right to occupy. Arabs have enough land already."

A more fervent anti-Zionist political theorist would say.

"They have no such right."

Someone in between would say.

"Well, they have a right to settle, but it must abide by the partition or something like the partition."

And so on.

Needless to say, the reasons one would support Zionism or not support it are legion.

Oh and as far as the difference between that and antisemetism. Well, one can be against Zionism because they despise all things Jewish. The belief that the Jews ought not settle Eratz Israel and the belief that Jews are somehow less than human as a people is not the same thing.

Drett can correct me if I'm wrong, but if I were to move into his apartment complex, I don't think he would want to vandalize my apartment because I happen to have a Jewish mother.

Hahaha, well I'm not offended. It's extremely hard to offend a Jew ;) Okay I'm done, I'm done.

Thanks for that explanation.I grew up being taught that the Jews are God's chosen people. But with all the issues in the Middle East I began to look deeper into the issues.I still feel that Israel has a right to the land from the history that I have read. But either way I do have much respect for the Jewish people.

Thank you. :)

I've always been caught in between. By Halakhic law, I am a Jew, so I cannot really escape the label (try as I may, hahaha), but since I am a very devout Christian, I have learned to admire them through the lens of an outsider as you have.

The good news, kaylagirl, is that, as a daughter of Christ, you are every bit as chosen as they (we?) are. Actually much moreso.

I'm kind of in a transition phase regarding my eschatological/dispensational beliefs. Not sure what to think about the fate of the Jews and their current and future place in God's order? Is Israel the "super-sign" of the end times. Are the Jews entitled to that land Biblically? Will He redeem a literal 144,000 during the Great Tribulation? Are they just another band of lost people that have to be relentlessly evangelized? I know none of these things for certain.

What I do know for certain is that I am far more blessed to know the love of Christ and his eternal priesthood than I am to be a genetic son of Levi. One of those actually means something of in the grand scheme of things, the other is a nice little fact to share at a dinner party.

God has not taken His hand off Israel. They are surrounded on all sides by enemies. They stand on 1% of land in the Middle East. They have been thrown out of more than 100 countries through history. They have been tortured, cast out, displaced and mass murdered.Still they stand.Have they always done right? No. But His mercy endures forever. To look at the history of Israel and not see Gods hand is unbelievable to me.Gods favor is still with the Jews or they would have gone the way of the Philistines, and others, years and years ago.
