So, if you were to only be able to have one book from the OT and one from the NT which books would you choose?
For me it has to be Genesis and John, these two books alone define the Bible - although Romans and Revelations have to be a close 3rd and 4th choice - and yes I do know they are both from the NT lol. Genesis describes what God can do, has done and also defines who He is whilst John tells of Jesus in His entirety told by the disciple Jesus was closest to...although I believe Jesus loved all His disciples!

From the Old Testament I would say is a toss up between Ruth and Esther, two incredible women who followed what God had for them no matter the obstacles. Then in the New Testament I would say is Ephesians because it has a description of what is expected of the church, marriages, families, and us. It is uplifting every time I read it. Almost every word in the book is highlighted.:)

I remember when I was a teenager (that was a long long time ago, hehe) I asked a friend this question. "If your house was burning down and you could only grab a few things to take out with you, what would you take?" My answer was my guitar (my guitar was like my best friend in those days) and my Bible. He was and unbeliever and I think he said he would take his diary, and the short stories he was always writing. I was making the point that I valued the Bible as really important to me.

I like what Joi said!

but my heart loves to dwell in the Psalms and my
hope dwells in the Revelations.

This is tricky! I have many favourites. The book of Genesis for the OT and probably Romans for the NT.

Very good thread topic and one I find hard to answer.

Would have to say for the NT, "The Revelation Of Jesus Christ."

(As a bit of a digression, 2 other books I like in the NT would be "The Epistle to The Hebrews" and "The Gospel of John.")

For the OT, "The Book Of Daniel."

(Likewise, 2 other favourites in the OT would be "The Book Of Genesis" and "The Book Of Isaiah.")

You are right, this needs to be outwitted. First of all let's make sure we all pick different books so we can put the whole Bible together when MPW is not looking :p. I pick the following:

1. From OT Book of Joshua (tells the whole mission of Jesus in advance), from NT Gospel of Matthew (I got saved from).
2. Sneak through the wisdom books in super small print in a bag of potato chips, eat them real fast with the chips in case MPW notices I'm up to something.
3. Have memorized Psalms by melody, so I dont have to have a printed version... She couldnt see that one coming!

If the question was, "which is your favourite book of the gospels?" that's an easier question. John, every time.
