Flyleaf aren't metal, but I still think they're closer to metal than rock. My favorite genre is symphonic metal, but some would argue that's not even metal.
I think some of their older songs could be like borderline metal but I don't think their more recent stuff is metal.

Yes, their earlier stuff. Certainly their first album and even much of their second, but not their third album. I haven't heard their fourth yet.

I wonder why they got so soft....

I've never once thought of them as metal. You all must be sniffing skunk butts =P
Or in Tintins case maybe platypus butts. =D

flyleaf definitely isn't metal. I tend to like bands like Memphis May Fire which is more christian post-hardcore.

christian metal is great, you get to listen to some great guitar playing and a person shouting faith based lyrics. a couple of my favorites are demon hunter and becoming the archetype. every time i listen to becoming the archetype i want to pick up my guitar and start shredding but my guitar skills are nowhere near that good.

Flyleaf is not metal either. Seems people are not grasping the distinction between rock and metal.
Erm, I don't know what you consider "metal" (maybe just thrash, power, and speed?) but Flyleaf is definitely a metal band - or at the very least metalcore/alternative metal. It's a huge genre. But if you don't consider it any type of metal whatsoever, then no big deal, we'll just have different opinions.

I'm getting an "AutoTuned to the max" vibe from that one. *sigh* Everyone just runs the recording through The Box and expects to get a perfect sound.

Don't mind me, I'm just an audiophile. Normal people wouldn't even notice the autotune on that song.

Maybe Lacey liked the heavier style or the band decided that rock is easier to mainstream than metal or grunge. But I'll be honest I haven't heard a lot of them since the replacement, mostly just because I didn't hear much news about them since then. :(

Computers are inescapable nowadays. :p I don't mind it unless it's in pop, which I usually avoid anyway.

What are your thoughts on Christian metal?
About the same as my thoughts on secular metal; 'eh.'

I was much more into the genre (secular metal, that is) about 10 years ago and listened to a lot of really heavy and dark stuff. Metal just doesn't do much for me anymore, save for a very few select groups that are nowhere near as heavy as what I was into a long time ago.

But still, there are some insanely talented metal bands/artists, no arguments there! I try to maintain respect and an open mind, even if it's not my jam.

demon hunter was the first metal band i got into, i like how the vocalist has both a great metal vocal and a great singing voice as well.

I just bought that album last week and I love it. The guitar work on that is awesome, you know someone is a good guitarist if they look like a viking right?
You think he looks like a viking?? lol
