Good point. Perhaps the slaughtering of Christians isn't instant but rather a persistent global killing of believers.
You are seriously warped. The Catholics are under constant attack here too. They are being forced to accept Gays, Contraception, and Abortion. The Catholic faith has its issues. I am not a defender of it. But it is NOT the world's false religion. That distinction belongs to ISLAM. Obviously you have your biases which have blinded you to the truth about ISLAM.
War against Catholicism is being waged as it is against Protestants and every other Christian sect. There is only one religion where war cannot be successfully waged and that is ISLAM. Our leaders are terrified of ISLAM and dare not speak out against it.

Let's ignore the largest religion in the world which also happens to be the largest false religion as a candidate for being Mystery Babylon. Let's forget that this religion has a false god and prophet. Let's ignore the fact that they kill by beheading those who don't agree with them. Let's forget that Islam is the sworn enemy of Israel and her offspring (the Church). Let's ignore where they are located geographically - completely surrounding Israel. Let's forget that the Muslims worship exactly the same was as the original Babylonians who Daughter Babylon is actually named after. Let's forget that this religion deceives. Let's forget it's official color is CHLOROS, which means GREEN just as we are told in Rev 6:8. Let's ignore that a new Caliphate has been declared and their desire to take over the world and institute Sharia Law. Let's forget they fly planes into buildings and that several Islamic states sponsor death and terrorism.
Instead let's focus on the Pope and his goofy costume and customs as Mystery Babylon. Yeah let's do that as it fits so much better.

The saints in that chapter is referring to those in Israel and around the world, as it says the antichrist first comes up against them in Jerusalem and then he goes out and slaughters the rest that claim Jesus as Lord around the world.
Second there is a big difference in the desolation in Jerusalem, and the one spoken of in Revelation 17:16. Because if you look at Matthew 24:16 Jesus does not tell them to escape from Judea, He tells them to run up into the mountains in Judea. Because the anitchrist is killing the Jews there, not destroying Jerusalem.
But in Revelation 17:16 we see not only desolation, but complete destruction as that place (Babylon) is burned up and gives a description of flesh being eaten away. Looks like a clear description of either nuclear or chemical weapons. Either way would not be able to continue to be habitable for awhile. But Jerusalem continues to be habitable after this, and I don't think the antichrist is going to stay in an area where he is using nuclear or chemical weapons on.

I do not agree that the harlot is the same as the beast.
From what I see in Scripure, Islam is one of the daughters of the harlot, not the harlot herself.
Islam is certainly full of, in fact filled to overflowing with, the spirit of antichrist.

This Dajjal sounds like the false prophet, and Mahdi sounds like the real antichrist.
If they obey their own prophecy when the time comes, it places them as or alongside the beast who turns against the harlot halfway through the Trib. I am assuming that the rest of the beast will have their own reasons for turning against the harlot.

Primed for deception is right, and is ongoing as we speak.
I do not know the previous back grounds of all these people, but look at how many people are leaving their countries including here in the U.S. to go and join ISIS. Being deceived by their lies, and their reason to fight and kill others is already enticing people all over to join them.
There are two separate things being discussed. The BEAST and the HARLOT. The imagery tells us that the Harlot (False Religion) "rides" the BEAST. The BEAST is a group of Nations. The religion of these nations directs how they act NATIONALLY. It defines them. Much as Catholicism supposedly defines Italy, Judaism defines Israel, Hinduism defines India and Buddhism defines China, Islam defines the Beast nations and controls their national behavior and identity.
Harlotry is most often associated with Idol worship in the Bible. Idol worship is characterized by an image or figure being that which is bowed down to and subjecting one's self to. Here's God's first commandment.
