Brother, you could quote every verse and verb tense and even God himself (which he has) could testify to the validity of eternal security and sin in a true believer's life and he will argue based upon his salvation lite doctrine which has blinded him to the truth......he listens to NO ONE and the truth is rather simple....it takes being born again to understand the word....notice how he argued with your grammatically correct interpretation of scripture.

lol Jason - you remind me of the "it's not about the nail" video on youtube. It's not really about the individual topics i gave, but the attitude behind them

Other Verses on Confessing Sin:

"I acknowledge my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the
Lord; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin." (Psalm 32:5).

"He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy." (Proverbs 28:13)

"
Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest." (Psalm 51:2-4).

"He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light." (Job 33:27-28).

"Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father's house have sinned." (Nehemiah 1:6).

"Yet if they bethink themselves in the land whither they are carried captive, and turn and pray unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have sinned, we have done amiss, and have dealt wickedly;
If they return to thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, whither they have carried them captives, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name" (2 Chronicles 6:37-38).

"If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me; And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity: Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land." (Leviticus 26:40-42).

Proverbs 29:23

That's just a baseless accusation that doesn't really mean anything. Unless you have God's Word backing you up clearly, it is just nothing but a blind hot air accusation (Which BTW ~ Is not how you correct the brethren). However, when somebody ignores what God's Word says plainly (Like with 1 John 1:9) and they attack the person rather than sticking to discussing the Scriptures, there is a problem with pride on their part (In the fact that they are putting another down) versus say the one who soley wants to focus on simply discussing the Scriptures in a loving and respectful way.

As for the video: It is ironic. The person in the video is ignoring the problem that there is a nail in their head. This is a parallel to those who will ignore their sin and refuse that it is a problem in their life whereby they need to confess it to the Lord so as to be forgiven of it (1 John 1:9).

My responses to Jason are less for Jason than for those who might be led astray by him. When He makes what looks like a strong argument; I feel that someone should show the correct reading of the relevant Scripture.
I post for the same reason. I don't want anyone being led astray into your false belief or thinking that a believer can get away with holding onto one sin in their life so it can spread like a cancer in their life versus say confessing that sin (1 John 1:9). For would you tell a child (Who believes in Jesus Christ) to NOT confess of a sin in their life? What if they read what you written here and believe they don't ever have to confess of a sin in their life? Would you not be teaching that child that sin is okay? What did Jesus say will happen to those who teach children to stumble into sin?

"He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy." (Proverbs 28:13)

The Bible says in Proverbs, he that COVERETH HIS SINS SHALL NOT PROSPER. It then says, BUT WHOSO CONFESSETH and FORSAKETH THEM SHALL HAVE MERCY.

This is what 1 John 2:1, and 1 John 1:9 is saying, too. For 1 John 2:1 tells us to sin not and if we do sin we have an advocate that we can go to named Jesus Christ. 1 John 1:9 gives us the details of what we must do when we go to our advocate: Which is to confess our sins so as to be forgiven and cleansed of all unrighteousness.

We are to confess our future sins to be forgiven of them and receive the Lords remission.
However nowhere in the bible does it say we have to pinpoint and out right label/name every single sin we do to receive that remission. The Lord gives us the standard in the Lord's prayer, and even David did not name his sins and prayed to even be forgiven of faults he did that he did not even recognize has sin. If you recite the Lord's prayer everyday with love and sincere heart then your sins are covered.
If a person commits a sin that happens to happen in the last minutes of their life to where they died and did not have a chance to repent, then they will not lose/forfeit their salvation if they walked properly in the faith before hand.
The Lord knows our heart and people do things in the heat of the moment, and He says He will have mercy on who He will have mercy on. If you take and say that last minute sin will cost a person their salvation then you are trying to take out of the hands of the Lord what He can do.
Remember the bible says there is rewards for believers, some of honor and some for dishonor, and these people who made this last minute sin would receive the lesser of the rewards. A person who is in Christ will not continue to live a lifestyle everyday in habitual sin, but we do mess up and back slide from time to time. That is the difference of the willful sinner the bible speaks of that will not inherit eternal life, not one who commits a willful sin here or there, but one who continues constantly everyday to commit willful/deliberate sins....
I am in total agreement with you on the Lord's prayer part. If a believer is unsure of what they have done wrong, this is a good practice to have. But there are times when the Holy Spirit will convict them of specific sins in their life, too. A believer cannot refuse to confess of a sin God is calling them to confess. For Jesus Christ was manifested to destroy the works of the devil. A believer cannot abide in unrepentant sin that leads unto death as a way of life. If a believer is abiding in sins such as hate, murder, stealing, lust, etc. as a way of life then they are not saved and they need to confess and repent of their wicked ways. This is evident in many verses on confessing and repenting of one's sins. God cannot forgive someone who is still holding onto willful sin in their life (of which I am sure you agree with). But we also have to realize that it only took one sin for Adam and Eve to fall and not many sins. So we have to be careful of what we do as believers before the Lord. We always have to be humble before Him. Yes, I believe God is merciful and can forgive sins that were done in the heat of the moment. But there are some sins that are not acceptable to God (Even one's done in the heat of the moment). The Lord wants us to guard our hearts and always be on the straight and narrow.

In reference to: That is the difference of the willful sinner the bible speaks of that will not inherit eternal life

I went to Biblegateway and entered in "will not inherit eternal life" and "will not inherit everlasting life".
What do you know - 0 verses on each.

We know that God uses specific words to convey something to us - we know that He means what He says and says what He means . . .

SO . . . When He says we will not inherit the kingdom of God - wouldn't He have said not inherit eternal life/everlasting life if that is what He meant?

SO . . . "inherit the kingdom of God" - What exactly is meant by that? Does it have to do with our rewards? or does it actually mean eternal life?

However, the Scriptures say,

"Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him."
(1 John 3:15).

So if one hates their brother, then one does not have eternal life.

Pretty simple.

However, there is hope for those who hate their brother, though. The solution is Jesus Christ.

See 1 John 2:1, and 1 John 1:9.

8.If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth isnot in us. 9. Ifwe confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us oursins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.10. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and hisword is not in us. (1 John 1:8-10)

Soif confess our sins, and not fight for them, like people's do today, then our Lord will clean us for our sins, like the Scriptures alsotell us, if we read the whole subject, because I think it is very common, that people's use only a part of this subject, when they try to convince, that man can't live without sinning.

But man can, and man should live without sinning.

Donot deceive your selves, but be truthful so you may com clean fromsinning.
Include verses 6 and 7 of the same chapter:
6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Many of you are eloquent in your writing. I am not. Try to ignore the elementary elements of my sentence syntax. Just trying to be clear. My explanation is choppy, it is redundant, an attempt toward clarity.

Walk in the light:
1. We have fellowship with saints, brethren.
2. Blood of Christ cleanseth (continual) us
3. from all sin

Walking in the light, but yet there's sin. How? Mindset, attitude.

A person who practices sin is not walking in the light. Practice sin? A person knows his or her own heart, intentions, motives, desires. As for me, I know my weaknesses, I know my shortcomings. I am not always a victorious soldier of Christ. I know, and so I confess (presupposes or manifests repentance.) my sin to the Father. He is faithful and just to forgive me.

Inevitably someone will foolishly suggest, "Well, if that is true, then I can cheat. I can lie on my tax form. I can drink and get drunk. Then, afterwards, I'll repent, confess, and ask for forgiveness." (This has actually been suggested. As foolish as it is, I present it to help clarify, demonstrate the truth.) But that's not walking in the light. God's grace never gives me license to sin.

Walking in the light, but I sin, but I'm in the light...! Not sinless, but in the light. The heart, only God knows. How can I be in the light, though I sin. Because my attitude, my mindset, my will, desire is NOT to sin. The Negative: I don't want to sin. The Positive: I want to serve my Lord.

I do not know every sin I commit. Does my not knowing kick me out of the light? Not at all. Likewise, does it excuse me from examining my life? Not at all (2 Corinthians 13.5).

What sins then do I confess? The ones that I commit. The one's I know I committed.

All kinds of "What if's" can be presented to my conclusions. I know they can. I have many, myself. My conclusions do NOT suggest that I or any other person can determine or judge when a person is in the light or not. "What if a child of God lusts after another woman, and while lusting after her, he has a heart attack and dies, is he lost?" God knows the motive, the will, the life of that person. I don't.

What I do know is this: I know when I am in the light and when I am not. I don't walk around with fear in my life. If I should die suddenly, I know my heart is right with the Lord.

The continual cleansing of the blood is "shut off" when I shut my heart from the Lord's will.

(I don't know, but isn't the Catholic confessional a relaxed attitude toward the truth? Sin Monday - Friday, go to confessional on Saturday.)

And that would be taking out of context of what I have said before. I have sinned on occasion since becoming a believer. The key difference is that I do not sin habitually as a way of life. Sin does not dominate my life like an unbeliever. When I have sinned in the past, I have confessed of that sin and have forsaked that sin (with the Lord and the strength of His power). Paul illustrates several times that we used to do the sinful things like the world still does but we are not that way anymore (See Ephesians 2 and Colossians 3). In fact, believers are called "saints" in the Bible for a reason.

Besides, having a license to sin is not grace. That would be a doctrine of immorality (See Jude 1:4 NIV).

Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you. We know that we have passed from death unto life because we love the brethren. [born again] He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
[not born again]. Therefore - Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: [like Cain, who was of the wicked one] and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in them.

Keep things in context. All I have to say is that one who HATES at all, does not have the love of God abiding in them.

So you never had a brief moment of hate towards another believer? What did you do afterwards? Did you apologize to God or did you just shrug your shoulders and say to yourself... "Oh well... I am a sinner."?

Can other sins be categorized as hating others?

Side Note:

Oh, and please do not feel pressured or anything. That is not my intention. If you want, you don't have to answer the questions personally yourself. You can answer them using a third person perspective. For example: When Joe did X, then Z was the result, etc.

And most, if not everyone on this site who embraces eternal security lives likewise, yet you judge and throw everyone under the bus as being rebelliously disobedient.

HATE - NO . . .

. . . dislike - yes which was directed more towards a difference in our personality traits, our relating to one another and I did one day get a little "short" with said person - I apologized to the person. And really all that is beside the point - I am not born "of the wicked one", I am born of God.

When we do John 3:16, Romans 10:9,10, a birth occurs. We are now a part of God's household, a part of the body of Christ. We have eternal life wrapped up in that new birth.

Anyways, what I am trying to say is that the seasoned believer is without excuse concerning sin. They would have read the Bible enough and walked with God long enough to know not to sin (And by doing so, it would show that they love their sin more than God). However, that said, Samson and Solomon were saved and they lived out very sinful lives. But these are examples of God's grace and mercy of how one can be saved by the skin of their teeth. However, they are not examples of how a believer is to live out their life, though. For there will be many who the Lord will say that He never knew them because they worked iniquity (i.e. sin).

Your reliance upon the truth is commendable. Indeed, it is. Especially the statement "God is Holy." Amen.

"And God is Holy and cannot let a person get away with sin. The only way sin can be taken care of is if they ask God for forgiveness." True. But, walking in the light, does not require, demand, an itemized list of sins. Oh, you are right. God is holy. (That part of God seems to be ignored by many. It is ruling and determining factor in His fellowship with us).

Okay, I am not in agreement with the conclusion that the man would be lost. He slipped. He saw, looked, lusted. Is he lost? I don't know.

Let me extend this a bit. The man saw. He looked. And lusted. Even while lusting, has his mindset changed toward the Lord? Does his lust suggest that his heart is dead set against the Lord? In other words, if that man should then meet his son for lunch. The man prays. In that prayer God hears, "Forgive us of our sin" is the man lost because he has not stated specifically his lust? Does the man have to specify that sin of lust? I don't think so. Does his omitting the specific sin of lust (even if not specified in private prayer) mean he is in rebellion, shaking His fist at God. Does it suggest he is unrepentant? No.

Oddly, the man's wife saw the man "looking." It's not his conscience that convicts his heart in this instance, but his angry wife. He admits and confesses.

Okay, he had the thought. It was wrong. A sin. But he moved on. He forgets about the woman and the sin. So never mentioned in prayer. I don't believe he is lost.

Again, this is not license to sin. Nor is it a license to ignore or belittle or undermine our shortcomings.

HATE - NO . . .

. . . dislike - yes which was directed more towards a difference in our personality traits, our relating to one another and I did one day get a little "short" with said person - I apologized to the person. And really all that is beside the point - I am not born "of the wicked one", I am born of God.

When we do John 3:16, Romans 10:9,10, a birth occurs. We are now a part of God's household, a part of the body of Christ. We have eternal life wrapped up in that new birth.
Um, let me rephrase the questions. Did you ever sin since becoming a believer? Can any of the sins you have done since being a believer be classified as hating? Again, you can answer this from a third person perspective (If it is too personal).
