Do we need to keep the sabbath? I dunno if I posted about this but I am still confused. Matthew 5:19 says that if you ignore the least of these commands you get the least position in heaven. So can someone please explain this to me?
btw, what is the purpose of the Sabbath and why is it so hard to keep?
simple.

look up from genesis to revelation in context all mention of sabbath.

the creator himself will tell you exactly what he means, if you ask him and trust him.

pretty much any answer here, even by me, or by any other person, won't help much.

mankind, even religious, is so stupid..... .... ....

"Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy
Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work"

Remember the seventh apple, to keep it whole
Six apples shalt thou eat and fill your tummy.

Doesn't matter which apple or which day ... jut any one in seven.

Then again, Christians tell me that the "old law" is redundant anyway - that the NT does away with al that.
It better or we'll be killing 'sabbath breakers', sacrificing sheep and stoning adulterers.

Yet, this is precisely what the Sabbath Keeping Beliefs do. So, this is not questioning THAT aspect, but THEIRS.
Strive to be of the same mind. I say that to all involved with this thread. The problem lies with the misunderstanding of the spiritual relevance. The Sabbath is a very important part of Christianity today. It's not a specific day but a specific heart toward God Almighty!! If one keeps it as a certain day and it enhances their walk with Christ, leave them and it alone!!!!

sorry, but it is hasatan who says it is not the seventh day.

you contradict TORAH, SCRIPTURE, YAHWEH, YAHSHUA and all the APOSTLES AND DISCIPLES
to say
it doesn't matter what day.

only one day was made holy day of rest by yahweh the creator, and he says so at the very beginning, and forever, all through scripture.....

look up every occurrence, and don't leave out one.

i.e. all the potential and real "FALSE GOSPELS" (other gospels) present are gangrenous(deadly. fatal) potential infections,
except unlike infections in the body, the infection itself is the entity(or part of hasatan's crew) and not even part of the body (of true believers).

Legalists are ignorant of the Word of God and do not know how to distinguish between the ceremonial law and the moral law. The Lord Jesus came against the legalist of his day, but yet he did not break the Sabbath but observed the Sabbath day in the right content. He did not break one single law but fulfilled all the law. (Mat 5:17)

Luke 4:16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.
21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

The opening words of Jesus in his ministry, is that he is anointed by God, as the seventh day was different than the six days. The seventh day was sanctified, separated from the other days. Jesus the very God became a man, had the same temptations, feelings and emotions and lived among men yet he was different, he lived among the sinner and yet he did not sin as he was holy and above the sinners, just like the Sabbath day was different than all the other days Jesus was different than the rest of the men.

The seventh day was a blessing to man, so Jesus was a blessing to man and he came to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance and give sight to the blind. He did most of his healings upon the sick on the Sabbath day; he did many miracles on the Sabbath day. He came to redeem us and to reconcile us back to God. He spoke these words on the Sabbath day and said, today this scripture is fulfilled. The Lord of the Sabbath is here. He is the holy one who can redeem us and sanctify us for his glory.

Mt 12:1 At that time Jesus went on the Sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were a hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat.
2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the Sabbath day.
3 But he said unto them, have ye not read what David did, when he was a hungred, and they that were with him;
4 How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?
5 Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the Sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are blameless?
6 But I say unto you, that in this place is one greater than the temple.

This incident happened on the Sabbath Day. Here we see the disciples of the Lord were hungry and they plucked some ears of corn. They rubbed between their hands to get the husk out so they can eat the corn. According to Pharisaic interpretation, to rub an ear of corn is a kind of threshing, and, as it is very wrong to thresh on the Sabbath day. This is a kind of works, as work was prohibited, as per fourth commandment Even if you are hungry you cannot rub the ear of the corn. This was their version of the Sabbath law. The Pharisees were intent readers of the Law.

But our Lord carried the war into the enemy's camp and asked, "Haven't you read?" The Pharisees were legalists. Legalism is adding man's laws to the law of God. It is an outwork of man's law, which God hates. Legalism has to do with man's traditions, which overrides the law of God. In here we see how the Lord dealt with the legalists as he went back to the scriptures and said, haven't you read? Because scripture is the final authority over tradition and legalism.

Mt 15:1 Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,
2 Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.
3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?
(These traditions are doctrines of men, and not of God.)
Mt 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

The legalist love to observe the external part of the law. And they are very proud of it.
The Pharisees diligently observed the ceremonial law as they brought their offerings and sacrifices to the temple. They were perfect when it came to the outward appearing of the law. But the principal was wrong, as their hearts were far away from God. They had only the outward form and the customs.

They also added their own doctrines and traditions to the outward law to make them look good. Their hearts were not there, the internal worship was absent only the outward was there. This is legalism, as they put a heavy burden on the people with their own traditions and doctrines.

Mt 23:25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto white sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.
28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

It was the legalists who keep the ceremonial aspect of the law. The reform teachings clearly identify that the ceremonial aspect of the law is being abolished on the cross. But the ignorant who cannot see the black and white, for them the ceremonial and the moral seems to be the same. So they brand the reformed teachings of the Sabbath as legalists. Let us see clearly in scripture how the Lord Jesus Christ abolished the ceremonial law of the Sabbath.

Gal 4:10 Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years.
11 I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.

We see again some false apostles crept into the church and wanted bring back the bondage of the ceremonial laws back into the church. They wanted the church to go back to the seventh day Sabbaths, the Jewish Sabbaths and not on the first day of week.(Sunday) These were more important to the Jews.

In the Old Testament law there were sabbatical years. Every seventh year the land had a rest, no plowing or sowing done. There was the general release of the debtors. Every fiftieth year was a jubilee to the Lord, when freedom to slaves and debtors was proclaimed throughout the land; it was a time of sabbatical rest.

The truth doesn't argue with itself. If there is disagreement in the house of God could it be that no one really understands, or could it be that certain parties refuse to agree and understand. The Sabbath is important still!! Do we have to argue over a certain day and miss the real truth of what the Sabbath is to us, forgetting the Lord of the Sabbath through the maze of argument?

The truth you say? Jesus said I am the truth and the life. Not Sunday nor Saturday. Church going is a reaction and not the action.

yahweh is important. yahshua is yahweh's salvation.

some who are born again, immersed in yahshua, do not keep sabbath. some do. they talk with one another, and talk about yahweh by faith in yahshua, and live daily his life; some keeping sabbath, some not.

yahweh is the creator. yahweh is in charge. everything belongs to yahweh. listen to yahweh.

abide in yahshua(continue living in him through hard times and easy times, through blessing and curse, no matter what, abide in him).

the trouble is not with any of those who abide in yahshua.

the trouble is "the other gospel" or "the false gospel" or the "pretenders" who not only do not abide in yahshua,
who do not honor yahweh,
but pretend to (usually with just "2 commandments" ignoring the rest of HIS WORD)

and regardless if they keep sabbath(like the scribes and pharisees who opposed yahweh and yahshua)
or if they don't keep sabbath,

they don't honor yahweh's WORD NOR yahweh nor yahshua in any part of their life. (they don't think of

listening to yahweh's WORD NOR yahweh nor yahshua).........

VS those who do honor yahweh's WORD AND yahweh and yahshua. that is the conflict. light with dark.

Luke 23:54
It was Preparation Day, and the Sabbath was about to begin.

Luke 23:56

Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.

All the ceremonial laws and the tabernacle were shadows, and were pointing to the true tabernacle the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus is the true tabernacle; the ceremonial laws existed until the coming of the true tabernacle the Lord Jesus. Lord, which brought redemption.

John 1:14 in the Greek it says, "And the Word flesh became and tabernacled among us, and we beheld the glory of him, glory as of an only begotten from father full of grace and truth."

Heb 9:10 Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.
11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;
12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

Christ delivered us from the outward form of the law. They were only shadows to come, and were nailed to the cross. The ceremonial aspect of the Sabbath does not exist anymore as it was nailed to the cross.

Col 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days:
17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

There were Old Testament Sabbath Days ceremonial laws.

Numbers 28:10 This is the burnt offering of every Sabbath, beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.

Paul had to explain this to the church as there was some legalist Judaizers who were teaching that in order to be saved you need to keep the ceremonial law, and Paul exposed through scripture that this is a false teaching. The ceremonial aspect of the Sabbath was nailed to the cross.

The word blotted out means cancelled or erased in Greek. The ceremonial law is abolished. The word shadow here is skia in Greek and the word body here is soma in Greek, which means also substance. So the external rituals of the Sabbaths were the shadows but the substance of the Sabbath is in Christ Jesus. The substance of the Sabbath still exists.

And He was saying to them, "The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."

What does the word Lord mean?

lord
lôrd/
noun
noun: lord; plural noun: lords

  • 1.
someone or something having power, authority, or influence; a master or ruler.
    "lord of the sea"
    [TABLE="class: vk_tbl vk_gy"]
    [TR]
    [TD="class: lr_dct_nyms_ttl"]synonyms:[/TD]
    [TD]magnate, tycoon, mogul, captain, baron, king;
    [/TD]
    [/TR]
    [/TABLE]

(January 2011)
Lord is an appellation for a person or deity who has authority, control, or power over others; a master, chief, or ruler.[SUP][1][/SUP][SUP][2][/SUP] The appellation can also denote certain persons who hold a title of the peerage in the United Kingdom, or are entitled to courtesy titles. The collective "Lords" can refer to a group or body of peers.

Could also have meaning of ownership of.....such as showing God as the owner of the Sabbath or Creator of Creation showing His ownership.....

Genesis 2:
[SUP]1[/SUP] Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
[SUP]2[/SUP] And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
[SUP]3[/SUP] And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made

Exodus 20:
[SUP]8[/SUP] Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
[SUP]9[/SUP] Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
[SUP]10[/SUP] But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
[SUP]11[/SUP] For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

God is showing us His ownership in the beginning at the end of creation a day of rest of a job well done to celebrate with Adam and Eve and in the 10 Commandments God is asking us to Remember the Sabbath day of His creation by resting and spending time with Him.

John 14:
15"If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

Revelation 12:
17
So the dragon was enraged with the woman, and went off to make war with the rest of her children, who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus.

Sabbath was part of creation and all throughout the Bible it has been a very important part of God's Lordship. Jesus said He was Lord of the Sabbath and in Revelation we are told that the dragon went to make war with her children who keep the commandments of God and hold the testimony of Jesus. God does not change, but man and traditions have changed the 7th day Sabbath to the First day. The Catholics admit to changing the Sabbath.

THE ROMAN CHURCH'S ADMISSION OF CHANGING THE SABBATH

  • Q. What is the Third Commandment? ( Remember they renumbered! )
    A. The third Commandment is: Remember thour keep holy the Sabbath day.
    Q. Which is the Sabbath day?
    A. Saturday is the Sabbath day.
    Q. Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?
    A. We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday."
    [ The Convert's Catechism of Catholic Doctrine, 1951 printing, page 50. ]
    Q. How prove you that the Church hath power to command feasts and holy days?
    A. By the very act of changing the Sabbath into Sunday which Protestants allow of; and therefore THEY FONDLY CONTRADICT THEMSELVES, BY KEEPING SUNDAY STRICTLY, and breaking most other feasts commanded by the same church." [ Henry Tubervill, An Abridgment of the Christian Doctrine, 1833, page 58. ]
"You will tell men that Saturday was the Jewish Sabbath, but that the Christian Sabbath has been changed to Sunday. Changed! but by whom? Who has authority to change an express commandment of Almighty God? When God has spoken and said, Thou Shalt keep holy the seventh day, who shall dare say, Nay, thou mayest work and do all manner of worldly business on the seventh day; but thou shalt keep holy the first day in its stead. This is a most important question which I know not how you can answer.
"You are a Protestant, and you profess to go by the Bible and the Bible only; and yet in so important a matter as the observance of one day in seven as a holy day, you go against the plain letter of the Bible, and put another day in the place of the day which the Bible has commanded. The command to keep holy the seventh day is one of the ten commandments; you believe that the other nine are still binding: who gave you authority to tamper with the fourth? If you are consistent with your own principles, if you really follow the Bible and the Bible only, you ought to be able to produce some portion of the New Testament in which this fourth commandment is expressly altered." [ Library of Christian Doctrine. Why Don't You Keep Holy the Sabbath Day? page 5. ]

The Blond can't get past the fact that God spoke from Mt. Sinai and also wrote the 10 Commandments with His own finger in stone no less. My Bible says that God does not change and that God does not lie. Therefore for me and I only speak for me not others this is why I believe in the 7th Day Sabbath. May God and your conscience along with the Holy Spirit be your guide. As we are all seekers of truth.

Note....Blond comments in Red.

The law wasn't crucified, the flesh is crucified with Christ. How could Jesus say that nothing will be taken from the law, and then distroy the law on the cross while heaven and earth still are here? I don't understand the reasoning. It's not Biblical.
