Romans 8:3-5
3For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin,[SUP]c[/SUP] he condemned sin in the flesh, 4in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.

Are you seeing, dcanrhi? You made up a statement that you probably think sounds Scriptural or Religious... but it is just some words you put together that really mean nothing as pertaining to salvation.

Only faith in the PERSON of Jesus brings Salvation. Without Salvation, his commandments bring only guilt and shame!

With Salvation comes both the will and the ability to obey.

Love all of the answers so far......!
Think of the shock I got when I learned "...... and faith, through the word of God" was really written, "...... and faith, through the Word of God" (or more literally, ".....through Christ")

Shook the heck out of my Traditional Theology.

Maybe I am misunderstanding you, but no the commandments of Christ do not save.
There is no law that is capable of saving (only convicting/condeming), only what Christ has done on the cross saves us.

Once we turn to Christ and are born again, then we die to the power of the law (sin which results in death) and are given a new heart of obedience. Obedience does not save, but we are obedient because we love Christ.

Those who are not obedient to Christ are not born again and do not love Christ. Those in Christ do not continue in sin or willfully break His commandments, by this we know who belongs to Him.

Our help is in the name of the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.
(Psalm 124:8)

what use is faith in a commandment?
will your car go 55mph because the sign says so?
no need for petrol? don't need to start the engine? press any pedals?

:p

this is His command:
believe in the Son.

my faith is that He works in me both to will and to work.
not that my will and my work persuade Him to have mercy, but that He he has already been merciful, and that His mercy is everlasting.

** hopes this is a language-barrier thing **

What exactly do you do everyday
to put your faith in the person of Jesus
that saves you from your sins everyday?

Do you obey the word of God?

Yes or no?

I already know the true answer to this
I want to see if you will admit that you do not obey the word.

Then what exactly do they do and why did Jesus give them to His followers to obey?
We have to obey His commandments. I was just saying that apart from Christ, if we obeyed His commandments it wouldn't cause us to live. Not like that makes much sense... Obeying someones commandments who doesn't exist...

Sorry, I have been talking with so many people on this website who make it their entire life's mission to call any obedience to God evil and legalism that it must be starting to wear on me. They only like to "love God" when love is left undefined and vague as if it were a mere thought accompanied by a warm feeling. I am forced to be very careful with wording to avoid them missing the point of what Christ taught by getting sidetracked into foolishness for 10 pages.

Give me an example of you putting
your faith in Jesus then I will tell you if that will save you from your sins.

The commandments is Christ.

True or false?
