I bet you are all thinking, oh no not another tree of life thread.:) I have had a look through
some of the other past threads but can't see one quite the same, so maybe you can indulge
me on this for a while.

I've never noticed before but there seems to be more than one tree of life mentioned in the bible.

Genesis 3:24 NKJV - in the garden
[24] So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden,
and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

Proverbs 3:18 NKJV - speaking of wisdom
[18] She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, And happy are all who retain her.

Proverbs 11:30 NKJV - righteous
[30] The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who wins souls is wise.

Proverbs 13:12 AMP - fulfilment
[12] Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desire is fulfilled, it is a tree of life.

Proverbs 15:4 AMP - spoken word/tongue
[4] A gentle tongue with its healing power is a tree of life, but willful contrariness in it breaks
down the spirit.

Revelation 22:2 NKJV - healing
[2] In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore
twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing
of the nations.

I did wonder whether all these trees of life might have different root words and if so, maybe
that would explain better the meaning behind them - does anyone know?

On the other hand if they all have the same meaning, then maybe it throws a little more light on
the concept of the original tree of life in Genesis.

I have no idea myself I have just never noticed the above before. Any thoughts?

Hello Miri , I have a little knowledge concerning The Tree of life and would love to share it with you and all who will . We need to start with Christ and end with Christ ; To begin with Mark Chapter 8 is an appropriate lesson on understanding the symbolism of trees , or in what fashion God wants us his children to see them , turn off your flesh eyes and open your spiritual eyes to seeing trees (walking)as men ,mk 8:21 how is it that you do not understand ? is the question Christ is asking you and I as asked the physically blind man ( we are spiritually blind ) Now the first action Christ took was to take the (blind man) out of town, for us that is to forget what you have learn to date and become as a child ready to learn God`s truth, not mans traditions or teachings, to carry on getting knowledge in our hearts of God`s truths is like getting the spit and clay put on our eyes, you know the hungry sheep :) Now Christ then asked the man if he saw aught ? and the man looked up and said ( I see men as trees walking ) So Christ put put his hands on the mans eyes (open your spiritual eyes) and made him look up (so we should look up) and he was (we are) restored ( by God`s truth ) God says he is an ever green fir Tree , come rest in His branches , since we are created in His literal image ...what you just read means come here to me child ,I want to hold you in my arms... the Tree of life was in the Garden ,it was God...The tree of the knowledge of good and evil was also in the garden, it was satan . see your self as a tree and know your head is the top arms and legs limbs ,connected to a trunk , so get yourself rooted and grounded in faith and understand to understand God`s word in depth you must be healed as the blind mind so was... read a final scripture with this understanding Luke 23:31 God and Christ are one John 10:30 we have two bodies and the green body is the flesh and the dry body is the etrenal spiritual body.. Amen Amen and Amen.

Mini,

All of the OT citations you have given use precisely the same wording
עֵ֣ץ חַיּ֑ים ; and the Revelation citation uses the same Greek words used in the Septuigent to translate the OT citations.

Thank you, I will know who to ask next time :)

A thought then , that the tree of life concerns spiritual life, that would make sense as mankind
lost that spiritual life in the fall and experienced spiritual death, with the need to be reconciled
back to God.

Oh just had a thought, Jesus was our resuscitator. We were severed from spiritual life just as
a baby is separated from the mother when the chord is cut, we must be born again.
Maybe the tree of life is symbolic of the Holy Spirit in some way? Just me speculating :)

This should be read according to its context because it does not necessarily mean it is the tree of life in the garden of Eden.

Ex: The full context of Proverbs 3:18 reads:

13Blessed are those who find wisdom,
those who gain understanding,
14for she is more profitable than silver
and yields better returns than gold.
15She is more precious than rubies;
nothing you desire can compare with her.
16Long life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honor.
17Her ways are pleasant ways,
and all her paths are peace.
18She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her;
those who hold her fast will be blessed.

When you read the whole context, it talks about wisdom being "a" tree of life.

Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Since he is the life, and since trees are pictures of people in the Bible, I don't see how the tree of life could be anything but Jesus himself. Song of Songs tells us that the bride of Christ is a garden in parable language. The Genesis reference has him in the midst of the garden, and Jesus is in the midst of his people many places in the Bible. Further, the other references to the tree of life in the Bible are undoubtably highlighting aspects of Jesus, with his wisdom and his bearing fruit and so forth. Wisdom is an aspect of God and we are told in the Bible that the Spirit of wisdom shall rest upon Christ (Isa 11:2). In Christ, there is neither male nor female, so to call wisdom a 'she' in the verse you quoted does not seem too strange.

Every tree is recognized by its fruit...
Every tree.
There is fruit that leads to eternal life,
There is fruit that leads to death.

From that, one should be able to differentiate between the heavenly man, and the earthly.

My opinion, it's a spiritual journey, there were two bodies to choose from, as Paul says, not all flesh is the same, there are heavenly bodies, and there are earthly bodies, ....that's all I will say on that.

Christ is the tree, we are the branches, rigtousness/wisdom of God, is the fruit that leads to eternal life.

There is only one tree with fruit that leads to death, and that is sin, and that lives in the flesh of mortal man.

The tree is there in Genesis, it's there in Revelation 2, the difference is that in revelation you can see man ALLOWED back INTO THE garden...

The Hebrews understood 'Paradise' as Eden....somewhere that has got lost in translation along the way.

Both places are gardens, one is just named Eden, the other is named Paradise, the two are written in two different languages, but when Paradise is translated, it means beautiful pleasure garden. I will paste this from bible focus.net, it helps to understand about the 'Fall' of man better and the article refers to the use of Paradise in Rev. 2:7:

"The word for paradise in Greek is*paradeisos. It is used here to describe the garden of Eden. It was a walled place of trees that could not be entered after Eve and Adam were excluded as the result of sin. There is one point to note. The reward to the faithful is*not*to be in the garden! Rather, the reward is*eating*of the tree of life.

The use of this word is in keeping with the Septuagint which translates the Hebrew for gardengan*as*paradeisos*wherever it refers to the Garden of Eden, or the Garden of Yahweh. In Genesis 13:10 the land Lot sees is*like*the*paradeisos*of Yahweh- a reference again to Eden. In effect, Revelation uses the same phrase as Genesis 13:10.

paradise*of God = garden of the Lord = Eden"....end quote.

So from this YOU can see, Paradise IS EDEN. And that's where he went after the cross, ABOVE. THERE is only 1 tree, no flood ever wiped that tree out, man was just banished from that place. In revelation, to him who overcomes, the kingdom is restored, and man is allowed back in. He's not just the redeemer of sinners, but of the entire fall of man, and after the resurrection, and the transformation, that is the restoration back to it's created state in the beginning.

Yes, very good thought man! Christ is the tree, and remember, he told them in Rev 2, they could eat FROM the tree of life.....
that is his body....and in him we eat of HIS FLESH:
John 6:53-Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, unless you EAT THE FLESH of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you."

And that is the Gospel of the kingdom; that after the fall man could not partake of this body, but the Gospel declared the kingdom has come unto you.....the tree we were kept from eating from, came down to US...and we can all be grafted back into this tree, and partake of his body, and be IN CHRIST.

Umm good point. I don't think we literally eat of Jesus flesh etc during the communion, it's symbolic but yeah it
is a good point.

We originally (thru Adam) had access to the tree of life. But Adam blew it and we lost the benefits of that. That's the Genesis part of it. The others, up to Revelation, are examples of how we can tap into tree-of-life type benefits thru Holy living. Note that the verses are all Old Testament; we now tap into those benefits thru the Holy Spirit under Christ. In Revelation we finally see the actual tree again, having had access restored to us by Jesus.

You always speak (well type) with such good common sense :)

Yes and another point about the tree, it bears twelve fruits, and the leaves are for the healing of the nations.

I believe the twelve fruits are the twelve tribes.
I can't say for certain, but I know what the grafted tree of Romans is....it is Israel itself, the one flock spoken of by Christ in John 10.

Other than that I'm still trying to wrap my head around how that has to do with Genesis from the implications of that understanding, but I think it has to do with the restoration of that kingdom, to the One flock, and God foreknowing us somehow.

Eat the flesh and drink his blood.....means partake of this body, and drink up the spirit..... blessed are those who HUNGER AND THIRST FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS......which IS the fruit of this tree!

EVERY TREE IS recognized by its fruit:
The fruits of the spirit are......
Galatians 5:22*NIV

22*But the*fruit of the Spirit*is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

Against such there is no law, and these lead to eternal life
