I had a good kid who never even had to be spoken to by raising my voice in anything, I dont understand these children who are like little possessed kids

I can see grabbing a stick for one of those lol

why not wait till you're faced with it? :)

many children respond very well to simple reasoning.
5 of our 6 either were never spanked, or only once or twice.

you make rules, be sure the kids know what they are, and what the consequence will be if they break them.
a swift smack on the bottom does a lot less damage than some words parents speak. :(

and yes, if you ever spank your child, be prepared to go into a room alone to cry after you comfort them and reassure them you love them.
it's one of the costs of loving them.

I agree. I was disciplined while I was growing up and I would not be the person I am without being corrected. I remember one time I got a spanking and afterwards my parents always left me alone to think about what and why I did it and then after a few minutes they came back and told me that the only reason why they discipline me is because they do love me and want what is best for me. It is a lot like our God's love is for us. When we don't do something he tells us to do we are quickly corrected until we do what he asked of us. A few weeks ago God told me to send an email to a friend of mine and I didn't want to and to be honest, I argued with him about it and he kept pushing the issue and so I was obedient and did what he asked of me and after I did it, I cannot tell you the peace that came over me when that happened. Ever since, God has been revealing little pieces of his plan for my life and it has been amazing. God disciplines his children because he does love us more than we ever possibly know.

Some children need to be spanked (safely), and some only need to be talked to. It all depends on the temperament of your children. Our children got spanked - but actually sent to their rooms more often. I never spanked hard because I used the palm of my hand on their butt. (I could only take so much pain myself).

Spanking was even done in schools by the principal with someone witnessing. Right or wrong, the children in elementary schools behaved much much better than they do now. And the principals were all men at that time. No one wanted to be spanked. For a few years, I worked as a school secretary, and saw the principal actually spank his own child one day. He spanked with just a paddle - and just a few fairly good spanks. It was not abuse - and it was over with so quickly. The children were more humiliated then hurt. Today the schools would be sued. And the Principals fired. Time has really changed in the last 30 years.

The important thing is to let them know how very much they are loved afterwards.

I hope this comment didn't sound conceited because I have a wonderful relationship with both of my parents because of the correction.

you do. :)

Awe!:o You are the adorable one. You always say and do things that make me feel good inside and I love you for that especially when I am not feeling good right now.

no i dont want to spank them

I could never spank my child let alone switch my husband will have to do it

that's fine and perfect, in line with yahweh's WORD,

(as long as you don't pamper or shelter the children / don't take their side against their/your father/husband)

you seem to have a good (better than usual) grasp of the WORD of GOD. (looks that way from reading your posts in other threads);

so keep trusting GOD -- he has all, regarding your life and salvation and eternal life, worked out perfectly.

and HE knows what HE'S DOING (perfect!).

eye control, am i right? ;)

Kiss patrol not eye control, where did you get eye control? LOL

Mary96 your heart is in the right place when you say you would share tears with you child if you use the rod. God feels the same way. He has no delight in the punishment of the wicked. A good book for you to read is kellers a shepherd's look at psalm 23 I think it would bless you.

Not even a look, I kid you not.

I hadnt gotten that far (as you well know) but I am certain if I had then the mom eye would come in handy.

Guidance with the eye is also a scriptural practice right?

Psalm 32:8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go:
I will guide thee with mine eye.

But I am thankful I didnt have one of those possessed kids, because there are times I have entertained finding the parent just to hand them a two by four and say,"do your job please"!

Im kidding
(no I'm really not kidding)
Its sorta somewheres in betwee a sort-a kind-a (not and am)

God bless bless you Sis

My Dad just had to look at me, and l would be out polishing his car.
No need to hit, when you have the stare down. It hurt more than a slap sometimes.

The idea of getting spanked was bad enough.

final thought...wouldn't you rather use an implement of some sort?
so your child knows not to fear your hand coming at them?
Thought after the final thought... ;)

It is the hand that holds the implement-of-correction - right? ( which makes the implement an extension of the hand )

Your hands are 'implements' which are extensions of you the person / parent. If your hands clearly show a sufficient amount of love to a child, then -- will they not see that - the same loving hands are also capable of correction? ( i.e. - "correction from / with the same loving hands" - "loving correction" - "correction made with love" )

The only way a child is going to fear [ your literal hand in close proximity to them ] is if all they ever receive from [ your hand ] is something terrifying - i.e., if that is all they 'know' [ with regard to your hand ].

If they 'know' that they receive "much love" from your hands - which they know is coming from you ( and that, your hand is but an 'implement' of that love ) - will it not be the same for / with correction?

Will they not know that the same loving hands --- are 'gentle' when they behave properly and "not so gentle" when they do not...?

:)

Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them. Proverbs 13:24

Every time I read this verse I always say "we will see about that". I do not have children yet hopefully God will bless me with them one day. But, every time I think of "spanking" my child I feel so bad and guilty I do not want to I could never do it I would cry and cry if I did. But on the other hand I feel even more guilty about not accept this part of God's word. I grew up this way I know lots of people who did. My parents taught me from a young age A wise son heeds his father's instruction, but a mocker does not respond to rebukes. Proverbs 13:1. I know I turned out find but I just cant bring myself to accept doing this. I feel so bad about not obey God's word. I work at a preschool/daycare and the other day this girl was scream crying and wouldn't leave her mother threatened her with a spanking and it just sent chills up my spin. Does anyone know how I can get over this mind block?
"Yes, absolutely..." :D

If you should happen to have children --- and, they develop a mindset that continually refuses to obey you -- and, continuously "walks all over you" - and, continuously defies you...

You will get over it. ;)

Perhaps this might help:

If we believe that Jesus died to forgive the sin of the world; how can we punish our children for what Jesus has already forgiven?

Spanking when done must NEVER be done in anger; and must never be done to punish! Many passages in Scripture describe spanking as God's tool for helping a child remember to do right.

When I spanked my children I told them that the spanking was not intended as punishment.

I reminded them that Jesus was stripped naked in front of a hostile crowd and beaten beyond recognition; then nailed to a cross to die a very painful death so that they would not have to be punished for their sin.

I told them that they would receive a mild reminder of what Jesus suffered so they wouldn't have to suffer themselves.

I than swatted them 3 swats on each of their bare buttocks; and told them that if they thought about their pain and their embarrassment the spanking would be wasted and they would go through it and get nothing for their trouble; but, if they thought about Jesus' pain and His embarrassment, it would help them remember to do right.

ahhaa i'm sure once you have kids you will change your mind haha

hmm...interesting point. :)

we had at least as many rules for ourselves in disciplining the kids as we did for them.
we never spanked anyone in front of anyone else...it was always private.
but the 'don't use your hand' rule was passed down from our parents, i guess.
if we weren't fully calm and in control of ourselves, we put ourselves in time out till we were.
we asked if they knew and understood what they were about to be spanked for.
and we immediately turned them around and loved them up, allowing them to cry in our arms till they felt better. i feel that's crucial, and what God does with His own.

because it's not about punishment... it's about training. :)
