Could always try the fig leaf option, at least that would be kind
to the planet.

Miri's gonna have a gripe now - gripe alert :)

What really gets me is that I played the saxophone in the worship team
for several years.

Whenever I was playing on stage (which was most weeks) I would spend some
time jiggling about when getting ready making sure nothing was too high or low.
Also took great pains to make sure nothing was immodest, especially due
to the way the saxophone is supported by the body.

The neck harness can tug at clothing a bit and the saxophone is carried at the
front of the body. Because of the way you hold the sax up it is also important
not to wear anything with loose baggy shirt sleeves!

Also in church we have cameras which zoom in and really focus
on you on stage. So I also use to wear a bit of foundation when I was playing.

Apart from that I never wore make up. Can't do lippy when playing the sax, also
i can't stand eye make up, it makes my skin itch.

I always wore trousers too as the platform in church is raised up higher than the rest of the
congregation. Even skirts just below the knee can look a bit immodest when
playing on a raised stage.

So despite all this, here is just a few of the examples of comments I got.

Man - I don't think women should wear trousers in church.

Man - you always wear trousers it would be nice to see your legs for a change.

Woman - you always look nice even if you don't wear lipstick.

Man - don't you think it's too warm for long sleeves I would have thought you
would be wearing a vest in this heat.

Woman - it would be nice to see you in a dress for a change.

Man - I could eat you all up for dinner.

Man - by eck I could play your saxophone any time (this man was
just creepy full stop).

Woman - you wear a lot of dark coloured tops don't you.

Man - you always wear flat shoes on stage don't you, I would like to
see you in high heels. (Yeah like, you trying wearing high heels stood for half
an hour with a tonne of brass dangling from your neck!)

Honest I could go on.....

The point is it doesn't matter what a person wears, someone is gonna
disapprove of something!

As long as a person does not go out of their way to,deliberately
be provocatively and cause problems, then it should not matter
what a person wears.

If someone seems a bit too risqué prayer for them let the Holy
Spirit convict them. Also ask yourself is it just me.

Or find out when it is their birthday and buy them something nice.
I know someone who did this and the recipient was so overjoyed as
she did not have much spare money.
oh do I ever know what you are talking about!

part of the worship team, and I even downgraded my looks to NOT draw attention to me...once I was asked if I was not feeling well cause I had applied pale powder to my face to hide my natural complexion...I wanted to look generic...haha

I have even had a couple of married men try to ask me out...(before I was married) one was in a Christian (cough cough) band and he was married and I was shocked! Is this typical for men in church?

Well, yah know, why is there so much divorce in Christian couples? I have never been inclined to flirt or chase after men...and I don't think much of women who do quite honestly, but reading your comments Miri brings back some memories

How about singing at a wedding and then the Pastor comes up and wants to talk to you and he goes 'you have a sexy voice...anyone ever tell you that?' and then my expression...looking like a fish with no gills...and mumbling something about thank you and then wondering why I would say thank you...well I was 20 something and shy

you know, the more I think about it, the more I think some men could use a good mirror

Oh my...and I'm a guy!
I have no shame, is this post a game?
Yes, I care about my looks,
Do I studder, do I need 'manly' books?
Do I want to show off more chest hair,
Whiten my teeth, and sit straighter in my chair?
Are my pants too tight?
Why, you just may be right.
Males should be tidy, clean and mighty
Despite the hair, rugged hands, and things unsightly
Bulges come and they can go
Most men shrug and just say "SO?"
Despite whiskers, ear wax and smelly feet,
Us men are just as sloppy as we are sweet!

Modesty in dress is very culturally conditioned. In some parts of the world a bare breasted woman in a sarong carrying a water jug on her head would not draw a second glance.
Christians should dress modestly, but modest dress varies from nation to nation and even person to person. I personally don't think women should wear thongs to church, but restrict themselves to short shorts. And tight halter tops are okay, but no see-through material. Everyone has their own idea of what's modest, but I tend to be a bit more liberal when it comes to women's attire. I just hate to see them suffer with too many cloths on when its hot outside. :)

I have a very modest personality in which, I wear as little makeup as possible. I think the most makeup I have ever worn was at my sister's wedding a while back. I honestly wear just enough to cover a scar I got from running into a tree and most of the foundations have sunblock in them so its an added protection.

As far as clothing goes I never wear sleeveless tops or shorts because I find most of them to be very immodest. I constantly find myself looking for clothes that cover everything. At work a coworker made me feel very uneasy the other day and after talking to a friend I came up with a solution I hope works. I bought myself some scrub bottoms because they seem to be cooler.

I just feel that if I wear immodest clothing I am in a way dishonoring God and whoever God places for my future husband.

The pastor, really, wow!

I have to say none of the pastors, elders or Christians mature in the faith have made
comments to me, But they were Christians nevertheless.

That's the thing... first love you CM, i know your heart and it's beautiful.

If someone wants to make you uncomfortable they will no matter what. And like i said before, whats modest for one isnt for another, horseback riding in jeans is way nore modest than a skirt.

Good rules me and my girls go by.
Is it full enough in the butt, doesnt under seat or show crack.
Is it long enough, this is subjective depending on height of said girl,
shirts show no cleavage, tank tops are our friends.
I wear sleevrless shirts that fit around my arms :) and dont gap when im working. Also make sure shirts dont ride up when arms are lefted.
So, long post short, just try in and pay attention you what accents and change those.
Note: sime guys are looking no matter what. It's your job to please the Lord, not worry about making a jerk not stumble when you're clearly doing your part

Insert sarcasm here, what a gentleman. Showing off boobs in a halter is just as bad as a mini skirt. Cupping under the breast is tempting as wearing just a bra.

Wow now yall have done it.........lol

I know some guys are going to look no matter what I wear, but I feel as though it is my job to do what I can to keep the perverts at bay. But yes I agree what is modes for some is not for others and that is fine and I have always been that way.

Rose, your compliment is beautiful and thank you and I offer the same to you as well you have a beautiful loving heart that I know God is pleased with and we all are.

Adam for what did I(God)tell you to do,in the beginning both man and woman had free will.
slowly that was took away from men.

Deuteronomy 25:11, 12:
If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them come to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts, you shall cut off her hand. You shall show her no pity.

this is not because his future descendants shall be preserved as some would say but it's of pride ,honor , embarrassment. You see the one man was loosing the battle to another man, the losing mans wife was worried for her husband and stepped in to help by grabbing the private parts of the other man so he would release her husband. indeed this doesn't feel good to have this happen to a man he will fall to his knees. For the husband this ended up being embarrassing for him that a woman saved him from being beatin up by another man. joked by his peers, he went home and cut the wife's hand off. The other men of the day said that's ok we will make it law by adding to the truth which yes the story happened, then what is the added part, (you shall cut off her hand, you shall show her no pity). What was replaced or not replaced is lost to time. What I think should have said its ok buddy you'll get over it, look at the bright side it could have been worse (in a nutshell)

As I write this, women all over the world are still in bondage,in chains, slaves to men. in the U.S only started allowing women to vote in 1920 hasn't even been a hundred years yet. And there's about 14k women being trafficked against their free will to the U.S. Today amazing to say the least. the next time a woman is dolled up looking fine with makeup, bling bling and a nice dress. Bow your heads and be humble and not prideful, honor, righteous. For there is a Billion more women on this planet who can't look and feel pretty and act/live with free will. Most Women are 10 times sensitive about their looks then men. Some women don't like these things bling etc. some do it's their choice not men it's called free will let's not be dictators of women.

"Thank Heaven for Little Girls" - The lyrics to Maurice Chevaliers most enduring song describe an idyllic view of little girls and the women they become. There is much in our art and literature that romanticizes girls and women and the role they play in our culture. But sadly, in our world today, being female often means being sentenced to a life of poverty, abuse, exploitation, and deprivation. Compared to her male counterpart, a girl growing up in the developing world is more likely to die before her fifth birthday and less likely to go to school. She is less likely to receive adequate food or health care, less likely to receive economic opportunities, more likely to be forced to marry before the age of 16, and more likely to be the victim of sexual and domestic abuse. Girls are forced to stay home from school to work. In fact, two thirds of the nearly 800 million illiterate people in the world are women. Only one in 10 women in Niger can read. Five hundred thousand women die every year from childbirth complications, that's one woman every minute. Girl babies are even killed in countries where males are considered more valuable. Women are denied property rights and inheritance in many countries. Worldwide, women own only 1 percent of the worlds property. They work two-thirds of all the worlds labor hours but earn just 10 percent of the worlds wages. Being female, in much of our world, is not HEAVENLY And yet, in my opinion, the single-most significant things that can be done to cure extreme poverty is this: protect, educate, and nurture girls and women and provide them with equal rights and opportunities, educationally, economically, and socially. No tool for development is more effective than the empowerment of women. This one thing can do more to address extreme poverty than food, shelter, health care, economic development, or increased foreign assistance. There is a saying in Ghana: if you educate a man, you simply educate an individual, but if you educate a woman, you educate a nation. When a girl is educated, her income potential increases, maternal and infant mortality is reduced, her children are more likely to be immunized, the birth rate decreases, and HIV infection rates (especially in Africa) are lowered. She is more likely to acquire skills to improve her family's economic stability, and she is more likely to ensure that her daughters also receive an education. Educating girls pays dividend after dividend to the whole community. Men, being physically stronger than women (in general), have exploited this advantage over the centuries to mold societies, religions, and traditions which are, in many cases, advantageous and convenient for men, but oppressive and abusive to women. Let us expose these inequities for what they are and begin the process of restoring fairness to all societies

The Rights for women

  • to not be physically mutilated
  • to not be killed in the name of "honor"
  • to not be forced to perform or submit to sexual acts
  • to choose whether or not to become pregnant
  • to equal education
  • to have an equal vote
  • to be literate
  • to not be forced to labor without pay
  • to choose their own religion, or lack thereof
  • to have equal access to medical care
  • to have equal driving privileges
  • to leave their home as they wish
  • to leave their country
  • to choose a career
  • to choose their own mate
  • to leave their mate
  • to take legal action against their mate or any citizen
  • to choose their own clothing
  • to be treated equally under the laws of their country
  • to listen to or perform the music of their choice
  • to read or write what they choose
  • to view or create art of their choice
  • to have the same freedoms as others (men) in their society
  • to have free and equal access to information
  • to own property
  • to hold public office
  • to enter into legal contracts

no doubt this will not go over easy with some men but the truth hurts.
no man teaches me.

How Is A Christian Lady Supposed to Dress?
Modestly, and to please her husband. How is that so hard?

And before I get yelled at, yes, the husband is supposed to keep himself fit, attractive, and well-groomed for his wife, too.

As much as i agree that human trafficing is alive and well, a girl dressed up looking fine, as you say is not at fault. How about we pray for the sexualized nation we live in that has a high percentage of men addicted to porn.

Ill always add. My oldest daughter who looks like a nun herself....lol modest, no makeup cause she needs none, was followed in walmart and later found out it was an active human trafficking ring. So let's not mix these subjects to be clear.
Most men in human trafficking are professional cons in suits and ties.
