They believe that because now day doctrines try and do away with the teachings and commands of the Lord in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

They make statements like, "that was before He died on the cross, or that is only for those before the cross."

They completely overlook the great commission of Matthew 28:19-20 that the Lord says all believers in Him are to observe/obey all that He taught, not just parts. The one time for all sacrifice in those doctrines does away with the rest of His teachings that we are told to do to receive that remission through Him and be reconciled to God.

This is what I believe, John 1:9. This says that if we admit and confess our sins, God will forgive them. How is this if we don't have to confess our sins? I'm getting really confused. I know also it says "they confessed their sins to one another" Why would they do this if its not required? Getting a headache! Lol
If you do not recognize that in 1st John he is writing to refute an adversary by contrasting them with true believers, you will never understand it. If you keep reading you will see he makes clear his confidence about those he is writing to, "I write to you, dear children, because your sins HAVE BEEN forgiven on account of his name." (1 John 2:12)

ROMANS 3:25.
Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness
for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

ROMANS 5:10.
For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more,
being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

we ((((SHALL BE SAVED))))....Christ's death PAYS FOR OUR PAST-SINS....then,
we MUST CONFESS ALL of OUR SINS as we REALIZE THEM, to our INTERCESSOR,
who is sitting on the Right Hand of God and Who EVER LIVES TO MAKE INTERCESSION FOR US,
else WE ARE DENYING HIS HOLY LIFE AND SACRIFICE!!! (come on, please don't take HIS JOB away from HIM,
this is the evidence of His most profound and unique and Holy Love for us.........
as John clearly includes HIMSELF in 1John 1:9.

IF we have NO-Living-Personal-Relationship-with-Him, then, when we appear BEFORE HIM, at the
JUDGEMENT SEAT OF CHRIST, He has to declare, 'Depart from Me, you that work INIQUITY,
I NEVER KNEW YOU.

There seems to be some people with REALLY RIGID vocabulary definitions of certain words... if you don't have the "cliff notes" it is hard to decipher who is carrying around which "combo-plate" of theological ideas. In this thread particularly is "confession" the catholic tradition... a personal regimen.... a principal... or a spiritual tenant.

And to answer your question... NO CONFESSION THEOLOGY is not new... but has definitely GROWN in this age.
Thank You all!!!! I guess what I do is. Personal regimen. Its not Catholic, although I have no problem with their confession, in the evening I do a personal inventory of my concious sins. I try to find when and what caused me to go against God's will. I repent of this because I know it was wrong. I confess all of this to God(actually we are having a conversation at this point) and I ask Him to forgive me and give me strength to overcome these.

Is this wrong what I am doing? I have been confessing in this manner for decades and I believe this has strengthened my walk with our Lord and our relationship has no stress in it.

What our Lord Jesus taught in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John was not overriding by the cross.

Lord Jesus teachings and commands are the first steps believers in Him are to take to receive that remission by His blood, and then how to continue to walk in the faith to continue being under that grace of God.

His teachings were of the new covenant and His blood by His crucifixion made the new covenant in effect.

Apostle Paul expounded on everything the Lord taught and commanded, he did not do away with any of it.

Once again the great commission says that all believers are to obey everything that He taught/commanded !!!

No that is not wrong to confess in that way and is biblically sound to do so, however the only point I would add is you don't have to pinpoint and name every single sin you do.

If that helps you then that is fine, but a general confession of forgive me of my sins is enough as our Lord Jesus and King David both gave prayers of confession for forgiveness that were general and not pinpointed out. (Matthew 6:9-13, Psalm 19:12-13)

sometimes we need to get 'very-specific-sins' OFF OF OUR CHESTS....

ACTS 24:15.
And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.

the reason that Paul has to have a 'clean-conscience' at ALL TIMES, is because, the (((adversary)))
has 'POWER OVER A DIRTY CONSCIENCE'!!!

as it is written,
'PUT AWAY ALL UNCLEANESS'. ...this is NT and OT scripture...

Well, those passages don't mean what you want them to mean. But regardless, all of your sins are in the past, unless you are sinning at this very moment, and by the time you read this those sins will also be in the past. It is specifically because Christ does ever live to intercede for us that we can rest assured in the forgiveness we have in Him.

Just as Apostle Paul also warned Apostle Timothy that he can become impure again do to sins........(1 Timothy 5:22, 2 Timothy 2:21)

I would like them to explain how Apostle Timothy can become impure again do to sins if future sins are automatically forgiven ???

Jesus was a Jew, born under the Law, sent to free those under the Law...and He was successful. It is only in the light of the Cross and the new covenant Christ ushered in through it that scripture can be properly understood.

Kenneth, repentance is of the heart and not only through speech. If it were absolutely necessary to even ask for general forgiveness then dumb people couldn't be saved. Take also an example of someone about to confess and repent before the Lord but suddenly died. The repentance is of the heart and not of the letter.

This heart repentance is given at the moment of salvation and remains in the believer even where sin abounds. For where sin abounded, grace did much more abound. That's what the new birth is all about. God removes the stony heart and gives a heart of flesh. It's a heart that is repentant.

Well there are still tons of Jews that do not believe Jesus is the Messiah, and they have to believe in Him to be saved under grace as well. All Jews are not automatically saved as Apostle Paul says that those that are in unbelief have been cut off in Romans 11:20-23.

Apostle Paul says only if they do not continue in that unbelief will they be grafted back in, as they have to believe in Him just like Gentile believers do to have eternal life through Him.

Then Apostle Paul gives a strict warning to us Gentile believers in that passage to, and that is if we do not continue in His kindness/grace we to will be cut off.

I know repentance is of a true heart as well, but that does not say a person has to pinpoint and say exactly what sins they have committed to be forgiven of them.

The Lord does give us a new heart but He does not take our free will away.

Tell me do you still commit sin? Why?

The Lord can not deny Himself which means the Holy Spirit can not deny to follow or keep His commandments, so if we can not still choose to walk away from the faith as some scriptures says does happen in some cases then we could no longer sin either as the Holy Spirit would prevent this as well.

Choice is still a key component to faith in the Lord and is shown throughout the scriptures !!!

I did not miss nothing because the way it seems to me is that you are trying to make Jesus teachings only refer to before the cross, and after the cross none of that He taught applies.

If that is the case how you think then it is not me that has missed it.

For even Apostle Paul and Apostle John shows that law is still in effect to those who transgress it, or that is wants to continue to live lawless lives. Continue to serve iniquity !!!

We are free from the law by walking in the Spirit (guidance, fruits), those who still continue to walk by the flesh Apostle Paul says is still bound under the law.

That does not answer the question; How can a believer (especially an Apostle) become impure again because of sins if future sins are automatically forgiven ???

Apostle Paul told Apostle Timothy exactly that he could, so is future sins automatically forgiven and Paul a liar, or is Paul telling the truth and future sins still have to be repented and confessed of ???

No, I am saying it all needs to be taken in light of the change Jesus brought about through the Cross.

You are forcing a meaning into the text that does not exist. There is nothing there about forgiveness.
