>>>The moedim are likewise rehearsals of God's 7000 year plan, culminating with the marriage of The Messiah to His bride.<<<

Excuse me:o. I have an unresolved difficulty... it looks like this might be a good time to ask. THE BRIDE... can you please explain the bride. I was taught the CHURCH was the bride in replacement theology, then it was the NEW JERUSALEM, another time ISREAL. The text of the seven virgins are the "churches" and then Jesus speaks of the wedding guests (believers), because we can't be "sons" and the daughter- in- law at the same time. I have never resolved this issue and... to be honest... have avoided much revelation study because it is HARD to understand. Could someone address this?

I have always been taught that the Bride is the entire body of believers. I always leave it at that.

Same with salt, as many of the Lords sacrifices were to be seasoned with salt.....

Matthew 5:13
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

That's right. There were no sacrifices done without salt. "And every oblation of thy meat offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt." Leviticus 2:13

Because we are the salt of the earth... and our OFFERINGS are the only offerings that are pleasing to the Lord? I knda get that... but I think I am missing the bulls-eye a bit.

Salt is a preservative, and also makes unseasoned food palatable. The food is the manna from heaven i.e. God's complete word. Then if we consider what Paul said to present ourselves a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God, we can comprehend this reasonable service to Him. I don't think you're missing it. We are the salt of the earth. We are to contend for the faith. Jude 1:3

Lamb omers

Numbers 29:12-15
12 And on the fifteenth day of the seventh month ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work, and ye shall keep a feast unto the Lord seven days:
13 And ye shall offer a burnt offering, a sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the Lord; thirteen young bullocks, two rams, and fourteen lambs of the first year; they shall be without blemish:
14 And their meat offering shall be of flour mingled with oil, three tenth deals unto every bullock of the thirteen bullocks, two tenth deals to each ram of the two rams,
15 And a several tenth deal to “each” lamb of the fourteen lambs:

This means 1 “deal” (omer) for each lamb, and 14 omers for 14 lambs.
I have recognized the fourteen lambs is a relationship with the sons of Jacob, and God later changed Jacob's name to Israel. One might say that there are only twelve tribes of Israel, but by counting Joseph’s two sons, Ephraim, and Manasseh, and adding these grandchildren of Jacob to his twelve sons, the number of sons is 14 representing the lambs offered in the Feast of Tabernacles. The Biblical number 14 represents “deliverance, and salvation,” and the fourteenth letter of the Hebrew alphabet is “nun” (נ) representing the seed that continues as a son, and heir. I'll be redundant about the 14 lambs later on. Keep in mind that Joshua was the son of "Nun" and the Greek name for "Joshua" is Jesus (Hebrew Yeshua).
Exodus 33:11

There is much more to follow as I see interest.

So laywomen and laymen fall into the category of the 14 lambs as Jesus (the lamb of God) came in the flesh, and we give back one tenth of what has been given to us in this huge plan of God. It’s not a tax. It’s not just money. It’s an offering of ourselves presented to our Father in heaven from the core of our being. “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” (1 Peter 3:15)

I have mentioned that faith is the substance of things hoped for, and Paul declares in Romans 3:28, and Romans 12:3 the importance of having faith in our Father in heaven. “Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.” So some have more faith than others depending on their God given experiences and maturing each individual accordingly by the power of Christ Jesus.

One omer, (עֹמֶר) per person, is “manna” (food) from heaven, which I believe is a representation of “faith” given to us through the Word of God. Exodus 16:17-18 clarifies God’s equity concerning this gift of faith, in what we might consider as an impropriety. “And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less. And when they did mete it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating.”

Further, God says in Romans 4:16 “Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all.”

The flour for the bullock, rams, and lambs, exemplifies taking God at His Word, all of it, as we, God’s children, receive and share proven truth with each other in conversation (convocation/rehearsal) according to our God given experiences. This is what “Sabbath” is for, being the 4[SUP]th[/SUP] commandment which God says to "set aside" meaning "to be holy." Exodus 20:8

Then as His promises come true in our lives, the world will see our fruit and possibly be curious enough to investigate this faith we have. Now remembering the importance of the omer of faith, in Exodus 16:33 “Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot, and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it up before the LORD, to be kept for your generations.” This omer was put in the ark of the covenant, the ark of God's testimony contained in His covenant. Hebrews 9:4

A complete spiritual ephah ( אֵיפָה ) instigates the rhetorical question, "where is the place?" An Ephah contains ten tenths of an omer, (God's commandments ) that which causes us to become inquisitive according to our God given perspective as we investigate this shadow of things yet to come, just as the farmer has expectations of how the crops will yield when planting the seed for the upcoming year. This reaction is called hope, described by Paul in Romans 8:24-25. “For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.”

"Commandments” ( דָּבָר ) 1697 dabar daw-bawr' and “speak” (דָּבַר )1696 dabar daw-bar' are the same describing The Doorway that leads to the family/kingdom of God witnessed from the beginning. (John 3:10) (Galatians 3:24-25)

We are given certain glimpses of this huge divine plan according to our individual perspective. Reject it and faith is not increased, accept it and you will have the heart king David had when he said; “I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore. Psalm 86:12

I have always been taught that the Bride is the entire body of believers. I always leave it at that.
Mat 25,the foolish bride is not allowed to enter. About half will stay. It always has been about a remnant with the correct heart. The harlot is dealt with differently, but eventually enters. (beheaded)

Hence the verse "pray that you may be counted worthy to escape........."

It isn't the "foolish bride" it is the "foolish virgins"... there is only ONE bride.. God is not a bigamist.

Perhaps removing the "satisfied with that" barrier will open up some greater knowledge and deeper truths:confused:

It isn't the "foolish bride" it is the "foolish virgins"... there is only ONE bride.. God is not a bigamist.

As I was thinking about the bride and the ten virgins with the oil and so on, I realized something I had managed to overlook all these years. In Matthew 25 when the five foolish virgins come back and ask to be let in to the wedding celebration, the bridegroom tells them the same thing Yeshua is going to tell those who profess to be Christians but did not the due diligence (compared with the five foolish virgins who did not get enough oil for the lamps) earlier in Matthew 7:23: “I don’t know you.”
Just thought I would pass that on as an interesting tidbit.

Now that we have covered this great “deal” of flour, and the spiritual definition of ephah, and omer, I will attempt to explain a fourth, third, and a half part of a “hin” of wine, and the hins of oil that are mixed with flour. Again, I quote Numbers 15:2-12 to clarify that the ratio of the oil that is mixed with flour and the wine are the same quantity in respect to the animals they represent.

“Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land of your habitations, which I give unto you, And will make an offering by fire unto the LORD (atonement), a burnt offering (trumpets), or a sacrifice in performing a vow, or in a freewill offering, or in your solemn feasts, (Tabernacles, Unleavened Bread, and Feast of Weeks) to make a sweet savour unto the LORD, of the herd, or of the flock: Then shall he that offereth his offering unto the LORD bring a meat offering of a tenth deal of flour mingled with the fourth part of an hin of oil.

And the fourth part of an hin of wine for a drink offering shalt thou prepare with the burnt offering or sacrifice, for one lamb.

Or for a ram, thou shalt prepare for a meat offering two tenth deals of flour mingled with the third part of an hin of oil.

And for a drink offering thou shalt offer thethird part of an hin of wine, for a sweet savour unto the LORD. And when thou preparest a bullock for a burnt offering, or for a sacrifice in performing a vow, or peace offerings unto the LORD:

Then shall he bring with a bullock a meat offering of three tenth deals of flour mingled with half an hin of oil. And thou shalt bring for a drink offering half an hin of wine, for an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD. Thus shall it be done for one bullock, or for one ram, or for a lamb, or a kid. According to the number that ye shall prepare, so shall ye do to every one according to their number.”

To summarize, there is 1/4th hin for the lamb, 1/3rd hin for the ram, and 1/2 hin for the bullock. A "hin" is approximately one quart.

The finest quality of *olive oil was “beaten oil” obtained by gently pounding immature olives in a mortar and then straining it. It was used for lighting, and also the baking of bread. In Mark 14:26-29 we read about the *Mount of Olives where Jesus tells Peter that he will deny Him, and in Acts 1:7-12 we see that this is the same place where Jesus ascended into heaven.

In 1 Kings 6:23-31 we read about Cherubims, and doors made from*olive trees that opened into the Holy of Holies in Solomon’s Temple. So we can safely say that the oil, in part, represents communication with our Savior, the preservation of the Word of truth, the door that leads us to God’s mercy seat, and the promise by our Father in heaven to send to us the Holy Spirit through Christ Jesus. In summary, the olive oil represents the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit (oil) and the blood (wine) are, and were in the plan before creation, for the prayer offered by Jesus before He suffered death is written in John 17:5. As Jesus sweats blood, under exceeding duress He says; “And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.”

In reference to the ram, and the lambs offered, these attributes of our Father in Heaven with those of Jesus Christ our Lord are all of Jesus’ creative works, within the universe in which we live, and are a testimony that enables us to witness the Divine completeness and perfection as a unit of One. The common denominator is governmental perfection. These measurements were seen as precise to mankind in relation to God’s divine governmental perfection that Leviticus 19:36 describes.“Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin, shall ye have: I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt.”

As there are three concepts of measurement enlisted with the bullock, ram, and lambs, there are also three concepts to think about concerning the oil and the wine. In 1/2 hin there are obviously two parts, and in this case, Jesus is one part united with His Father making a whole. Likewise, 1/3 is one part of three, the third part being God’s chosen connected to the Father and the Son through the patriarchs of Israel making 3 parts. Finally, 1/4 is one part of four connecting the Father, His Son Jesus Christ, Judah and Ephraim together as one Israel as the elect who are saved by the Son of Man. Ezekiel 37:16-19

This gets quite involved and will require concentration, but is worth the effort. LOL. It is difficult to understand in the KJV so you might want to also read the scripture from a version such as the Complete Jewish Bible which is accurately translated from the original Hebrew, yet phrased as we would say things today. More to follow.

I arrived at the *common denominator of 12 by calculating the following:

½ = 6/12 for each bullock
1/3rd = 4/12 for each ram
¼ = 3/12 for each lamb
6/12 + 4/12 + 3/12 = 13/12
13/12 13 specific entities within the number 12 which represents the perfect Government/Kingdom of God.

In my opinion, knowing that God Almighty works in multiple ways simultaneously, there can be more to think about concerning this fast that is a “convocation” and or a “rehearsal” for the millennial reign of Christ Jesus. Therefore, what I will present doesn't negate, or take the place of what I mentioned in post #91, but can be in addition to it with the explanations given previously. Let's crunch some numbers. 12 tribes are noticed in both the OT and the NT chosen by God Almighty. In addition, 12 apostles are noticed in the NT chosen by Christ Jesus. The gates in the “New Jerusalem” represent the 12 tribes of Israel, and the foundational stones of the “New Jerusalem represent the apostles of Christ Jesus.

Revelation 21:12-14
12 And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribesof the children of Israel:
13 On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates.
14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of thetwelve apostles of the Lamb.

As I began to identify the names of the tribes of the children of Israel in the 144,00 virgins I noticed in Revelation 7:4-8 that neither “*Dan” nor “Ephraim” are included with the 12 tribes.
4 And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.
5 Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand.
6 Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Nephthalim were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand.
7 Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand.
8 Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand.

As it appears, Dan has been forever excluded for good reason. See Genesis 49:17 and Judges 18:30.The last mention of Dan is in Jeremiah 8:16. I'll address Ephraim's exclusion later, but it can be concluded that the tribe of Joseph replaces Ephraim, and Manasseh replaces Dan. Therefore the number 12 clearly represents the perfect government of our Lord Jesus Christ.

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

I will continue in the next post the fractional “hins” and how they represent this perfection of God according to the finished plan. But first, remembering that this convocation of the Feast of Tabernacles is a rehearsal for the true church of Christ, Trumpets and Atonement pre-empt this feast. It is for sure directly related to the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] coming of Christ as a lion and not a lamb. The first day of this feast (this year) is September 28[SUP]th[/SUP]. I'm not saying Jesus will return this day, but I am endorsing the fact that His 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] coming is in relation to the 7[SUP]th[/SUP] month.

Fractional “hins” to follow including where the 13[SUP]th[/SUP] fits into, or rather grafted into the whole of 12. The calculations above are 13/12.

As I said, “Joseph replaces Ephraim, and Manasseh replaces Dan.” Judas Iscariot can be likened unto Dan, and Paul was from the tribe of Benjamin bringing the mystery of the gospel to the Gentiles who are in actuality Ephraim (in prophecy) scattered throughout the world, via the Syrian Empire.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:” Romans 1:16 and Romans 2:9-10

Then the ministry of Paul can be likened unto the ministry to the Gentiles being Ephraim. That's the 13[SUP]th[/SUP] part of the 12[SUP]th[/SUP].

Ezekiel 37:15-19
15 The word of the Lord came again unto me, saying,
16 Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim and for all the house of Israel his companions:
17 And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand.
18 And when the children of thy people shall speak unto thee, saying, Wilt thou not shew us what thou meanest by these?
19 Say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his fellows, and will put them with him, even with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in mine hand.

So being redundant, as I stated in the previous post, I arrived at the common denominator of 12 by calculating the following:
½ = 6/12 for each bullock representing the Father with the Son together making the whole.
1/3rd = 4/12 for each ram representing the patriarchs added to the whole.
¼ = 3/12 for each lamb representing that children of God brought to the whole through the patriarchs
6/12 + 4/12 + 3/12 = 13/12
13/12 13 specific entities within the number 12 which represents the perfect Government/Kingdom of God.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

One may question how the 14 lambs fit into this equation when there were only 12 tribes of Israel and 12 apostles of Christ. We will see as the 1[SUP]st[/SUP] day of the feast begins that the daily number of the rams and lambs offered don't change like the bullocks offered beginning with 13 the first day and lessening by 1 each day following until only 7 are offered by the 7[SUP]th[/SUP] day of the feast.

“So why 14 rather than 12 to represent the end result of Israel? ” The 14 lambs represent Jacob's original 12 sons plus Joseph's 2 sons (Ephraim and Manasseh) being Jacobs grandsons. This number helps us to understand the character of God in a more full way as we grow in His gift of faith given to us.

This is confirmed by Peter who knew full well that God didn't desire for either Ephraim or Dan to rebel against Him, let alone the entire house of Israel. But yet we see God's character in righteous judgment, His grace, and faithfulness toward all the inhabitance of the earth. In essence, rebellion against Him breaks His heart.

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9

The oil represents the Holy Spirit mixed with the Word of God (the omer of flour) in the appropriate amounts for each animal that is offered. God the Father and the Son knew the weakness of man, and the manifestation of sin introduced by the evils of Satan. The love and grace of Jesus Christ, through the Spirit of God, introduces the blood covenant providing atonement for Adam, and Eve. This covenant was completed, but not negated, for on Calvary’s hill the shedding of blood was also for the remission of sins through Jesus Christ. This is proven as we read in Hebrews 9:22 that “almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.” We know that Jesus is the Passover, but this Lamb is not to be confused with attributes of God described as “shadow of good things to come” that are represented by the bullock, the flour, the oil, and the wine. Hebrews 10:1-4 explains this better than I can. “For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.”

In relation to this, the first thing that popped into my mind was how our Savior could be half and a quarter at the same time? The answer is found in Revelation 1:5-8 “And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” The oil is His anointing light, the movement of His Spirit on the water, as He says “let there be light,” putting The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit together, making a cohesive lump of perfection. John 1:1 says; “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Without that final side (1 side connected with the other 3 sides), a square container that has only three sides is incapable of holding any substantial measurement.

In like manner, the wine represents the covenant of blood, and a “just balance” in the same proportions as the oil. Blood was shed to supply coats of skin for Adam and Eve. Blood was shed for sacrifices and offerings to supply atonement and sustenance for the priesthood. And finally, blood was shed by Christ Jesus to finish (fulfill) this divine plan, created by Jesus and His testimony in Luke 22:15b, Mark 14:24b, and Luke 22:20b; when He said; “With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: This is my blood of the new testament. This cup is the new testament in my blood.” A Testament is a disposition, a contract drawn up by a testator of an estate who devises, by his own will, the evidence of that covenant, or testimony. Those who participate with sincere communication, or communion with this disposition, become the beneficiary of the inheritance that is defined by the testimony of this covenant. Many congregations present this communion, or Eucharist as something that comes from the church. In reality, it is solely a covenant from, and by the testimony of our Father in heaven and His only begotten Son.

The cup is the container of this covenant, and is His testimony of the testator, sealed by His blood. Jesus said some things hard to perceive in John 6:54-56, but now in retrospect, we can understand that he actually traded places with us as He testifies; “Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.” Paul explains this evidence further in 1 Corinthians 10:16, and 1 Corinthians 11:25. “The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.” The contract contains the same words as from the beginning, and the cup is the New Testament that contains the blood of Christ.

Now to bring this all together, the flour represents God’s testimony that is delivered to us, through Jesus. The oil is the light given by the Holy Sprit mixed with this testimony to remind us that the wine is a clear representation of the blood in this covenant offered to us. Chronologically, this testimony reveals itself as follows, and Exodus 24:6-8 begins this enlightenment, as Moses takes “half of the blood, and put it in basons; and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar. And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the LORD hath said will we do, and be obedient. And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD hath made with you concerning all these words.” In 1 Samuel 16:13a, and Psalm 23:5b Samuel anoints David King, and David connects with this testament offered to him. “Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward.” And David communes with God, as He says “thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.” Even though Samuel did the physical anointing, David knew all along that it was the Spirit of God who actually did the anointing. This covenant cannot be damaged as Revelation 6:6 promises. “And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.”

In this area of offerings, a “hin” is denoted as a measurement that is final. It also involves the attributes of reaching out and responding to the call, and the desire to receive what is freely given. “When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.” (John 19:30)

Excellent studies here! I just wish I had more time to read and process it!

Point of interest...we got our tent camper set up this last week in preparation for Sukkot next week. It's exciting to think of spending those 8 days with everyone, including my family. Although, it's a little tiresome to think about how to get all 6 of us into that camper for 8 nights!

This week I read through Deuteronomy 31 and there is an instruction in verses 10 and 11,

"Then Moses commanded them, saying, “At the end of every seven years, at the time of the year of remission of debts, at the Feast of Booths,11 when all Israel comes to appear before the Lord your God at the place which He will choose, you shall read this law in front of all Israel in their hearing."

There are many who view this year as that 7th year. In light of that, the Holy Spirit laid on my heart to read through the whole Law over Sukkot. Our church will be doing this corporately in some way during the Feast as well, but we're not exactly sure what that will look like yet.

I apologize if this post isn't in line with the thread. I just wanted to mention this without starting another thread about it.

I'm working on the progression of days during the feast right now, beginning with the first days (15th of the month) offering of the 13 bullocks, and their spiritual significance. Hopefully tomorrow I can post the first of this sequence. Thank you your posts brother. Good to see you here. The way things are going, I will be posting details clear into next month. There is so much involved.

Here's something I did a while back that relates to Tabernacles > A keeping of a sabbath is left to GOD's people (text below).

Chapters 3 and 4 in the book of Hebrews deal with the critical importance of persevering in the faith of Christ in order to enter into GOD's eternal rest from our earthly labors.

Hebrews 4:9 says:

There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. Hebrews 4:9 (KJV)

Consequently a sabbath rest remains for the people of God. Hebrews 4:9 (LEB)

A literal translation of this verse says:

Consequently, a keeping of a sabbath is left to GOD's people. Hebrews 4:9

The Greek word translated rest and sabbath rest above is σαββατισμός (sabbatismos, G4520), which is a noun meaning a keeping of a sabbath. It can refer to a kept weekly sabbath (Exodus 20:8), a kept 7-year land sabbath (Leviticus 25:2), or a kept festival (appointed time) sabbath (Leviticus 25:32). Scriptural context determines the type of sabbath.

It is an unusual word that is used only one time in the NT (Hebrews 4:9), not at all in the Greek Septuagint (LXX), and very rarely in other ancient writings. The verb form of this word is σαββατίζω (sabbatizo), which means to keep a sabbath. It is not used in the New Testament, but is used in the LXX to refer to keeping all three types of sabbaths listed above (weekly, 7-year land, appointed time).

The context of chapters 3 and 4 in Hebrews is not a weekly sabbath, nor a 7-year land sabbath, but the sabbath rest of the land promised to Israel, which many under Moses were not able to enter into because of unbelief. The context of these chapters also centers around faith.

The most interesting usage of σαββατίζω (sabbatizo, to keep a sabbath) in the LXX is in Leviticus 23:32 where Israel is commanded yearly to keep the sabbath of the day of atonement. This appointed time was a sabbath of sabbaths (essentially a most holy sabbath), and was the holiest day of the year in which Israel's sins were removed for a year. The appointed time of Tabernacles began on the 15th day of the month, 5 days after the day of atonement, and was a time set apart for Israel to rest from their yearly labors. The first day of this festival was a sabbath, and the day following this festival was a sabbath; so it was bracketed by special sabbaths that were distinct from any weekly sabbaths that occurred during that time.

Genesis 7:11 states that Noah’s ark rested on the 17th day of the 7th month. This day falls within the 7-day festival of Tabernacles, which is the 7th festival (or appointed time) of YHWH. The number 7 always signifies rest from labor.

Additionally, the children of Israel were originally supposed to enter into rest in the promised land during the time of first ripe grapes. That harvest occurs in the fall of the year, as do the appointed times of the day of atonement and Tabernacles.

And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan ... Now the time was the time of the first ripe grapes. Numbers 13:17-20

In other words, GOD's original plan for their entering into rest corresponded with these appointed times in the fall.

However, they did not enter in under Moses because of unbelief, and subsequently wandered in the desert for 40 years. Afterwards they entered the promised land under Joshua just before Passover in the first month of the year. But they did not enter into the true rest that GOD has planned for his people from the foundation of the world, as indicated in Hebrews 4:8:

For if Joshua had caused them to rest, he would not have spoken about another day after these things. Hebrews 4:8

This change of entering the promised land (which symbolizes rest) from the appointed times in the 7th month to the appointed time of Passover in the first month signifies GOD's postponement of his people's true rest until Christ, our Passover, could accomplish and establish the more excellent way that would allow GOD's people to forever enter into their final rest in the (as of yet) unfulfilled appointed times of YHWH.

So, IMO, the future fulfillments of these appointed times (what he calls another day) are what the writer of Hebrews is referring to in Hebrew 4:8-9. The example of disobedient Israelites not entering into rest in the promised land through unbelief warns us to always strive through faith to enter into Christ's rest, that culminates in the keeping of the sabbath of the fulfilled day of atonement and subsequent festival of Tabernacles, when those who do believe fully enter into GOD's promised eternal rest.

So let us strive daily to enter into this keeping of a sabbath that is left for GOD's people when Christ returns to give them rest.

Come to me, all of you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke on you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:28-29

I do not have anyone to fellowship Sukkot with, nor do I have a tent or camp trailer... if I just open my bedroom window for the 8 nights... can I be included in yours... :D
