I have to disagree 100% with the pope. We have one direct relationship between us the believers and our Father.
Jesus preached once we are like him in relationship to the Father, we can ask what we desire and the Lord will provide.
We are brothers and sisters in the Lord because we all share the will of the Father, his heart and his desire for the nations and life. The church of the Living God is a reflection of this relationship.
A sacrementalist believes the church provides the ceremonies of life which cleanse and justify the believer in their walk. So you get roman catholics who go to church every day, say the rosary etc. because they feel justified by these ceremonies. It is all a lie, because underneath it lies the reality they do not believe the Lord really loves them, has forgiven them and they can walk in His grace.
Now I have no problem with ceremonies, symbols, pictures that help externalise spiritual realities but to often they become the idol rather than showing the reality within.
The deeper argument is without these symbols, churches, discipline, faith would die out. The problem is for many there is no faith just the symbols, so which would you rather have? I will choose reality, light and love and not the lies and deception, the wrong emphasis.
You the reader have got to remember this Roman Church killed many of our believing brothers and sisters because they did not accept the churches doctrines or views. So pompous were they, to be excommunicated you were doomed to hell.
They still hold to the idea of purgatory and saying masses for the dead. To put it in its true context, this is crap.
I love those who I have known in the past and have died, but no ceremonies or trying to do the right thing will change their eternal destiny. If you accept eternity is about who you are and how you can light up in love to the Father, and not distrust or hatred, you will understand what heaven and hell really are. The lost are just that, and unfortunately seeing God will change nothing but confirm the lostness and confusion within, which means in eternity there is nothing but a split disfunctional soul.
The Papacy and the Jesuit's tortured and killed, posiblly hundreds of thousands of people including Anabaptist.
The Catholic Church is guilty of putting millions of people to death just for not accepting Catholicism and becoming a Catholic. Look at all the Jewish people put to death by the Catholic Church for refusing to become Catholic! And lets us not forget it was the Catholic Church that funded Hitler and the war machine that killed millions of people.
For more proof the Catholic Church today is a Corrupted Church, look at Pope John Paul II and how he actually bowed down and Worshiped statues of Mary. Read how he gave Mary all the credit for saving his life when he was shot. Not once did he ever thank God. Pope John Paul II Worshiped and served Mary as his God!

Agreed, but the Protestant Churches aren't squeaky clean on this as well. For example in Martin Luther's later writings he excoriates the Jews...and Hitler used those later writings of Luther for justification of his dastardly deeds.

I do not see Jesus trying to achieve any harmony with the community of Pharisees. He bluntly rebuked them to the point that they were offended. He could clearly see that they were enemies of the Word of God, and did not see any point in making peace with them.
On the other hand, Jesus patiently spent time with a Pharisee called Nicodemus (John 3). He was gentle with Nicodemus and explained to him the things of the kingdom.

I visited a Catholic lady, friend of my departed mother, in her nursing home room. Before I could leave her priest entered, a man I've known for a long time. I said "Good evening, brother Wallace." He replied "Father Wallace." I answered "As you know I am not Catholic, and not of that tradition. Good evening Mrs Kilby.", then left the room. When I returned a few days later the woman told me I had to leave, as she was not allowed to let unbelievers come confuse her. She died a few days later.
Even their titles are corrupt. Among real Christians many pastors have a "Rev." before their name, but that's for written correspondence. In person it's "Brother", not "Pastor", or any title that self-exalts.
There is right now a heavy pressure on former Catholics who left the RCC and many of the Protestant church "apostates", the RCC calls them, to stop attending our non-denominational community church. Some are very afraid, letters saying they will perish eternally if they remain separated from the church, to return immediately. Apparently the clergy is on a rampage to scare former members back into submission.
That alone makes it a dangerous cult.

Sad! Very sad to see how the RCC is treating non-Catholics. And we have people on this thread who say that the RCC makes peace with everyone! They need to either do their homework or learn to speak the truth.
When the RCC cannot make peace with its fellow believers in Christ, what sense does it make to make peace with Muslims? Muslims deny the trinity, the crucifixion and the divinity of Jesus! They have reduced Jesus to a mere prophet. Their "scriptures" instruct to kill, and their purpose is world conquest. Many muslims are ignorant of this.
And yes, trying to control church members is indeed cultish behaviour. Jesus never controlled his disciples. In fact, he told them that they were free to leave if they did not believe in his words. [John 6:67]

Jesus Christ died for the Pharisees, too. He even prayed for them on the cross.
Also, Jesus Christ was more interested in them than in any other Jewish religious group of that time.
On the other hand, Jesus Christ revealed Himself to a Pharisee named Saul!!!

I think the whole point of Christianity is to be saved from sin by the blood of Christ.
This isn't something that hinges on our relationship with other believers.
This is something that hinges solely upon our relationship with Christ alone...
as explained in the scripture.

I actually think you extended charity towards the man by calling him brother.
If he is worshiping a christ he made up in his imagination he isnt your brother.

That would be the point or purpose of Jesus Christ. He came to save us and send to us the Holy Spirit to guide us and to unify us.
Christianity is Church, actually. And it is about unity between us and unity between us and God.

whether we all get along in "this" lifetime or not.
All ETERNAL UNITY is created, and paid for, in whole, by the blood of Christ, alone.

I am not Roman Catholic Christian, so...
I believe the Church is the Body of Christ. I don't want to be apart of Christ' Body.
