In another thread, someone posted something similar to the title of this thread. I was wondering, if you believe God put you here for a reason, what do you believe is that reason?

I imagine some will say, "to be the father/mother of my children", "to bring others to the truth of the Gospel".

Some may have something more in depth.

I'd like to know why you believe this reason for you being here. What brought you to understand that this was the reason you were put here. I'd like to see tangible things posted, along with those feelings in the heart.

I'd also like to read how you are working to accomplish that, "reason for being here".

If you believe you have already accomplished the reason for "God putting you here", please explain what you are doing to continue that achievement of your life.

Please post any chapter and verse that made a large impact in your decisions.

Thanks for your honesty and sincerity.

Oddly enough, I thought there would be a few responses? I am glad you at least read the OP. Thanks for that.

Some things that crossed my mind:

Maybe it's too personal?

Maybe no one really knows?

Maybe it's in the wrong forum?

If you feel the courage to post an answer for any of these questions, thank you. I'll be around checking up on this thread.

Take care.

Maybe it has only been up for three hours? People have church on Sunday. Patience is a good thing to have, especially in a forum. Especially where nobody is really obligated to reply to anything anyone says...

To answer the original question, I believe Jesus put it best with the salt and light analogies.

"No", I don't. I think God puts reasons in front of us all, every day....... not necessarily putting each individual here for one specific reason.

Well, with the number of looks, I wondered if folks were afraid of something? Thanks.

I looked this up. Not sure which site I should be looking at for an explanation, so I understand more fully. If you have a link of what you believe, I'd appreciate it.

What I got so far is:

1. Salt is a preservative and adds to the flavor of the meat.

2. As salt of the earth, Christians are supposed to do several things.
a) Preserve the world from evil. Not sure how.
b) Be peacemakers in times of strife
c) Be ministers of Christ for the sorrowful
d) attempt to heal those who hate
e) when evil is done to you, respond with good and thereby be an example of Christ

Lynx, how do you represent those in your life and did those all come to you when you were saved or did you learn that over time and believe and trust those with blind faith, hope and newly formed trust in God? Maybe there was a seminal moment that it all seemed to come together for you and all of that made sense when you looked at your life after baptism, in comparison?

This is sort of what I was thinking, but I really liked Lynx's response. I didn't know what he related. Either I was taught and forgot, or I just never really knew. I don't know. Doesn't matter. I'm asking now. :)

As you say though, it may be that we have to search for them? God doesn't just plop them in our laps? It's up to us. Seems like this is more along the lines of what I was taught. I was never given a reason, nor thought to ask as I have above.

There are many reasons we are all here. Are we here to be the matriah of the family, are we here to serve, are we here to be lost in our ways and then find our way back? Only each individual may know or will know their true reason or purpose for being here on earth. I believe all of us have a purpose to be the best Christian we can be. And I also believe your question may be a little to personal for some to share. Not every one wants to share their story!

Those are all good aspects of salt, but think about how salt affects what you eat. Or rather, think of how you would be eating without salt. Jesus specifically spoke of the salt's savor, the flavor it gives the food it is in. We are to be a source of good in a world that has a lot of bad. We cannot prevent bad, we cannot abolish it in this world, but we can be and do good. If a neighbor gets a house knocked down in a tornado that's a hard bite to swallow. If his neighbors help him put his life back together, that's the salt.

We are to be a light in this dark land. There will still be darkness, and sometimes we may feel like we are holding a candle instead of a 3,000 watt light cannon, but with even a candle it is possible to see your way across the room. If you hid your light, darkness would be absolute. We can't do away with the darkness, but we can help shine a light.

God tells us over and over in His word to help others. Bad things will still happen, but as we help others and are ourselves assisted by others, we can all get through this world a bit more easily. Like it's easier to eat a lot of things if you have a little salt on them. Like it's easier to navigate if you have a little light.

And about the number of views... you know people are sitting in church with their smartphones hidden behind the pew, checking on the forum. But it's tedious to type replies on a smartphone. ;)

Well, that, I did not think of. I would never and have never had a phone on during a service or mass. Period. Although, neither do I have a smart phone and/or cell/flip phone. It's liberating.

I get your point. I can and will wait for responses. I don't think you can delete a thread or post here, can you?

Not after five minutes. Forum limit set by the owner, no editing after five minutes. Moderators can edit it though.

And I don't check my phone either, but I see others... Especially from the stage, you'd be amazed what we can see from the stage. Come to think of it, they would probably be amazed too if they knew what we see from the stage. They might stop doing it.

I believe that the simplicity of GOD eludes mankind. God would have no one perish. If we take that concept and live our lives to the utmost level we can (allowing the Holy Spirit to work in us) to connect others to CHRIST, then our reason is obvious. What confuses us is that GOD gives each of us gifts and talents that we need to discover in order to attain the obvious reason that HE placed us here.

Thanks Jeni. I guess I was hoping that someone could share just enough that I would understand, and I think you have. I'm not really looking for details about the horrors that others have experienced. I guess there must be many here who have found a dead end in their lives and didn't know where to turn, but could not get anywhere with what they were doing at the time? Maybe they were given hope for at least some peace at the end of their lives, along with some personal acceptance of who they are? Maybe they were even given hope that they can be more than they were with a little help from the Lord?

Maybe I'm looking for validation of my own thoughts? When folks feel a part of something bigger than themselves, and more wonderful than they could ever hope to achieve on their own, it can be greatly comforting. Maybe I'm looking too? :)

Maybe some never know? Maybe they just live the best they can and are put to good use while never fully knowing the impact they had or their talents?

You are all making me think. Thank you.

God is bigger than all of us. Lets say one of the beautiful woman in this sites purpose is to give birth to the child who will be this nation's greatest leader and then one of the splendid men on this site will be a teacher to that child who excite a fire for knowledge and then more woberful people will inspire that child in GOD and using the heart GOD gave that child to become an adult who loves with all their heart and use that knowledge to bring world peace. Each of us has a purpose. We may never no that purpose. Some of us are blessed to see the purpose, some of us do not recognize the purpose. Lets say I am in New York and I fall into some one on a sub way because I am not holding the bar. The person exsudes anger and lashes out at me. Do I lash anger back and cause more issues. Or do I apologize and ask him if his anger is about something else and not me bumping him? I ask and he tells me how his life is crap...the world is crap, etc. I talk to him about GOD. I ask if I can take him to lunch and further discuss GOD. After lunch I take him to a church to have the pastor talk with him and I further. During the talk he admits he has been contemplating suicide. We pray more...we all talk and part our ways. Was my GOD given purpose that day to fall into him? Each day is a new day with a new GOD given purpose. We can allow our human nature to simply ignore an opportunity or we can take every opportunity to an action that may change someone's life forever. Even a smile could be a life saver to someone who simply feels unloved. May saying GOD bless you at the end of an email may prompt someone to think about GOD. We all have a purpose. We are not simply humans that GOD has put on earth to watch like a TV show. We are all here for a purpose.

When you've finished doing everything you're here to do...
God is going to take you home.

So if you're still here, there's still work to be done.

What is the chief end of man?
To worship God and glorify him forever.

(Click link and check proof text for where that is in the Bible.)

I'm here for a reason. I get eternity for the same reason, so, noper. Not really into thinking God will ever be done with me. I owe him too much.
