why is Columbus day still in a national holiday?

I think the left wingers have a class on how to get offended about anything...its like they go around looking for some perceived injustice to rail about. No more Mexican food day at a college...etc
 
It's Thanksgiving Day in Canada. We celebrate that the harvest is in. No pilgrims or Spanish/Italian conquistadores looking for gold and/or slaves. Just grateful for all that God has given us this summer.

Dude, you can come to Canada and learn to be grateful, this time of year. It beats the anger, any day!

How do you have holidays without pilgrims or conquistadors?

Canada.

Who can figure those guys out?
 
As a follow up to my last comment I wonder how anyone in that age could kill over three million apart from God. Nuclear
cannon balls spring to my mind or muskets of mass destruction.

Well, the accusation sort of goes that he put them all into slavery and hard labor.
Then everyone died from that directly or indirectly, as it destroyed the local economies, food supplies, etc. etc.

As I posted earlier, it was REALLY EASY to find primary sources for his general corruption and tyranny.
But I didn't see first-hand sources for all of the genocide.
That doesn't mean it didn't happen.
It just wasn't jumping out at me.
 
It does seem pretty absurd to have a national holiday about a guy who actually failed in his mission. Even moreso given that Columbus never actually set foot on USA. Some will say it's because he discovered the continents of the Americas, but that can't be true because there were all ready people here.

If you want to rename Columbus Day, go for it. I won't stop you.

Let's not have the faux-outrage over the destruction of the ancient pagans though. They got what they deserve for worshipping idols and sacrificing their children to demons. There's always a worse heathen to stomp the other heathens down. At the zenith of their pride they are cut down to the ground.

I know you were just trying to share a different, and more balanced view,
but that article was, in actuality, just as lacking in data as the articles that vilify Columbus.

I'm not blaming you.
You didn't write the article.

But this pretty much sums up the WHOLE POINT I'VE BEEN MAKING.
People have all of these VIEWS about him, and throw around ASSERTIONS, and even some NUMBERS...
but I just don't see much evidence backing any of it up.

It's kind of bizarre.

Both his supporters, and his detractors, just toss out "facts" with no sources to back them up.
It's really bizarre.

I've never been that interested in Columbus,
but the odd way he's presented, by both sides,
really makes me wonder what's going on, lol.
