Thanks for your response Stranger. What do you think about Romans 4?Definitely just the land. Not the whole world.
I'm not really sure how to interpret that passage. I'm sure the descendants of Abraham are suppose to be both influential and a blessing to the whole world.

Yes they are. KJV is trying to start another thread that espouses his theology that the church has replaced Israel and God will not keep His promises to the Jews. Dont get drawn into this discussion. Its a trap. Replacement/Fulfillment Theology is false doctrine.
Thanks for aswering for me but the thread isn't about the church replacing Israel... It's discussing whether the promise to Abraham was the Nation of Israel or the entire world. What is your opinion?
Do you think there were two land promises to Abraham, one being the land of Canaan and the other the whole world through Christ? It's a good question. Obviously, the Genesis promises were only the land of Canaan. However, Paul's expansion of that to include the whole world reveals the messianic nature of the promise. Abraham knew he could only receive the land from the messiah at the resurrection, but it was also revealed to him that the messiah's dominion and blessing would incorporate the whole world. I love how Paul was able to go beyond the letter of what was written to communicate through the spirit the scope of the promise, ie, restoration of the whole world.
The promises to Abraham were to him and his seed, not seeds, but seed and that seed is Christ. If you be Christ's then you are Abraham's seed and heirs according to the promise.
It was the whole world. An heir of God and joint heir with Christ.

Sure no doubt there were two covenants.I don't know. I'm convinced there were two covenants, though.
Amen! Makes me think of this scripture...I agree and I dont think the Genesis promise was limitied to how far Abraham could see.
Amen! Makes me think of this scripture...
Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.Ephesians 3:20 NLT
What was said, the promise, was enough for Abraham to comprehend but what God meant..was probably way too much for Abraham to grasp. The revelation, the full understanding of that promise was revealed to the ones who were fulfilling it (I.e. us and everyone in Christ before us)
That's how I see it anyway..
So when God promises, expect big lol
Yep and if you think about it, God made the promise to Abraham ONLY because Abraham believed God.... Abraham was the father of faith and apparently the first child of faith also.
