What Went Wrong?
John Blanchard
A straight forward answer to this question is SIN: Sin entered the world through one man, and death through Sin. I know some of you are thinking at this point, but it was Eve that took the fruit from the forbidden tree. So you will think it should woman’s fault that sin came in to this world. But No! This was an ideal test of willingness to obey God from Both Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve were given great freedom, but with one very serious warning: You must not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, for you will surely die. The warning came to both Adam and Eve, not to one person.
So why do people think it should of been Eve that should of got punished? Even though it was her that tempted, Adam fell for it too. It was Eve that went against God’s test, but Adam could have turned around and said no, we must follow and obey God, but he didn’t. He joined in, and ate from the tree. They both were accountable for disobeying God.
But we have to look further, how did sin really came into the world? It was the temptation from the devil in the first place that got Adam and Eve into trouble. However you can’t blame the devil fully, because the fact goes back to Adam and Eve, because they disobeyed God by allowing and believing the devil’s tempting lies. So there you see, sin not only came into the world by Man’s disobedience, but through the easy power of influence temptations of the devil.
At that moment ‘sin entered the world’. By this deliberate disobedience and man cut himself from God. Instead of loving God, Adam and Eve were terrified of him: they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. Instead of being assured, confident and happy, their sin had made them ashamed, guilty and afraid. Instead of seeking God’s forgiveness to they can try again, their sin carried on in their hearts.
But God said man would die if he disobeyed, and he did. Death means separation from God: Not as in death as we see it or think of today. God meant death as a separation from him spiritually.
God would of forgiving them if they would seek for it, but they didn’t, they continued to live in that death, or that separation from God, because of their guilt and shame. I’m sure the devil would have been laughing at Adam and Eve and I’m sure laughing at God too.
But man started to die not only spiritually but physically too, and now had a dead soul and a dying body. But that is not all: any offspring Adam and Eve had would have inherited their corrupted nature and sinful character. From then on, like pollution at the source of the river, the poison of sin has flowed to all Adam’s descendants, and in this way death came to all men, right down to us in our time, because all sinned. Noticed that word ‘all’ again? This obviously includes all men and women.
We may never ever meet on this earth, but one thing is clear and we have this in common – we are sinners and we are dying. If we claim to be without sin we deceive ourselves, we will be lying to ourselves, and most of all, lying to God. If we claim all those things then we are being totally ridiculous. Fooling around with that lie does nothing to change the fact.
Many of today’s newspapers, televisions and radio and also internet remind us of the fact that the world is in a huge mess. It is easy to condemn violence, injustice, disorder and wrong doing in society, but before criticizing others, ask yourself whether you are perfect and living a life pleasing to God. Are you absolutely honest, pure, loving and selfless? God knows the answers to these questions – and deep down, so do you! It says in the Bible: All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
There is that word again ‘all’ we need to face facts here because we were sinners by birth, by nature, by practice and by choice. However, if we ask for forgiveness, God said that he will remember your sin no more, that’s not saying that he will forget, because he can’t, but he chooses not remember your sin. But if you ask for forgiveness, and then continue to sin, then your heart is really not meaningful and your sin will be accounted for.
