His restraint was lifted for a while and he was allowed out of the Abyss.
That is assuming that it was Satan himself and not one of his minions.
Scripture regularly portrays activity in terms of the one finally responsible when he is operating through others..

As we can see...this once again points to Satan being bound at the end of Jesus' ministry...not at the beginning of it...
Well, Jesus wantet establish his kingdom on earth, as the prophets of the OT told.. And the Jews expectet the MESSIAH to come. This was there believe. Jesus 3 years ministrie showed that he was the Messiah. In John 20,30-31 we read that all what he did was to proof that he is the Christus, the Messiah, the son of God.
In Mt. 12,28+29 he shows that he has the power over the Demons and over Satan. But he uses this power not to bind Satan yet. Satan all the time was limitet in compare with God. God allows him to do what he is doing. (f.e. in book of Job).
With his death at the cross Jesus paid for our all sin. So that Satan has no right anymore to say your are guilty! And with his ressurection Jesus shows that he has the power to take and to give live.
In this understandig of course satan is defeatet and limitet in his power and time. But he is not bound. If you bound somebody, than this person has no longer power to do anything. To say that satan is bound today is according my view from our today world wrong. Satan is still acting. But he will be bound in future (rev. 20,1-3) for 1000 years and i have no reason to understand this 1000 years other as literal. After the final battle he will be thrown in the sea of fire (Rev.20,10) forever. Then he is finally bound and cant do anything harm again!

I find what you say quite astonishing. JESUS SAID HE HAD BOUND HIM. I really don't care how you wriggle round it, I prefer to believe Jesus. He did know what He was talking abut. He clearly saw it as more than the limitations put on him in Job.

In my understanding, satan is subject to being bound by any Christian at any time of the day. Thing is, the effect is temporary. Because peoples words bind (by faith) or loose (by fear) the devil.
If you believe that Satan is bound for exactly 1,000 years...then must also believe that he is released for exactly 60 minutes.
Valliant, when i am not wrong, then you say that satan is bound since Jesus defeat him at cross. If somebody is bound, then he is not free. According my understanding. But why then Gods Spirit warns the believers in 1.Peter 5,8 from the danger of Satan? If he would be bound yet, we dont must fear him, because he cant harm us. Back to the question of the thread:
Is Satan bound? No he is not! But he is limited in his power and he can only do what God allows him to do.
Satan was bound the moment that Jesus said he was bound (Matt 12.28-29). That was well before the cross. It enabled people to be delivered out of Satan's power because Satan's minions had lost their power with his downfall. They were in turmoil. He was further bound at the cross when his power was limited in that he could no longer cause people to fear death (Heb 2.14-15) . He was further bound at the resurrection when his chief minions were led in triumph (and therefore in chains) by the triumph of Jesus (Col 2.13). This was further proof that Satan was bound. He could do nothing to prevent it.
That is partly but not wholly true. He is still free to use what powers are available to him, and Satan has great powers available to him. Thus whilst imprisoned in the Abyss (Rev 9.11),which is a restricted part of the heavenlies, he can still order his minions around. He can make use of spiritual wickedness in the heavenlies (Eph 6.10 ff). He can still use men to walk about seeking whom they may devour (1 Peter 5.8). Notice however the non-mention of him in Rev 13-19. There must be some reason for this. It is that he is bound, even though having wide influence.
LOL you mean he is bound? On that we can agree. He will be restrained until the restraining angel is taken out of the way (2 Thess 2).

You are correct! The scripture in Rev.20:1-3 that Satan is literally bound and that under the earth in the Abyss. You have to remember that you are dealing with an Amillennialist and therefore, they have slapped on an allegorical/spiritual interpretation to these events in order to defend their positions. The scripture never says that Satan was "bound" at the cross, but that by Christ meeting the righteous requirements of the law (which humanity could never do) and paying the penalty for our sins, he freed us from the curse of the law, which was Satan's and the powers of darkness ammunition against us.
"When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
The scripture above says nothing about Satan being bound. He currently has the same power to deceive humanity that he's always had. The scripture in Rev.20:1-3 however, speaks of Satan's literal binding under the earth in the Abyss where he will have no access at all to the surface of the earth which will keep him from having any exposure to the inhabitants of the earth during the thousand year reign of Christ.
