There are many ways to confess...one is to "say the same thing" about a deed that was indeed a sin ( little play on words there..) to God or to others you have harmed
The other side of the coin = I also confess that Jesus is my righteousness and holiness. His life and blood that was shed on the cross has saved me and made me whole!
Confession is not just about "sin"...( this is how we evangelicals that are so sin-focused usually think about when we hear "confess" ).....however....we will be "confessing" truth for all eternity without any reference to sin!
