Which way do you guys want to call it? Let us know, so that we know from which side of your mouthes you are speaking.
To insinuate that two people saying two different things means that each is talking out of one side or the other of their mouths seems far fetched. So when what you say disagrees with what another says, that means you are talking out of the side of your mouth? Hmmm. Okay. I shall keep that in mind.

I see it as being consistent to what HeRose has been saying all along. Can you show us where HeRose said 1 John 1 was NOT being addressed to believers? Thank you.
He just got through agreeing that John was addressing gnostic teachings. Do you see it now?

So if I talk to you about non-believers that means you are a non-believer? Hmmm. Yes, I see what you mean. You cannot distinguish between talking about some type of person with talking to that type of person. Disturbing.

You used to recognize humor. What's happening to you? I would only suggest that they spend a little time reading what the other is saying.

You can not talk about Jesus without discussing His doctrine, because the Word of God says if we are following anything other than what Jesus taught it is a false gospel and we would be following a different Jesus with no power to save.
This is so true. Anything else is just Christian mysticism/Christian gnosticism.

I suspect there were at least several people in that audience that WERE leaning highly toward the Gnostics. He WAS preaching to them.

And where's the evidence for this? I think the earliest you will find is in Prince's book. You can find it in the Fiction section of the bookstore.

John waas trying to get them gnostics that would be listening to the letter read to be believers so that they could have true fellowship with them and with the Father..but ya' give up your gnostic thinking and acknowledge you are a sinner and need a Savior..confess your sins and get cleansed from all..get that..all...unrighteousness...

This is starting to get good because it is exposing the difference between heretical teachings and the doctrine of Christ.

Heretical teachings appeal to something other than scriptural evidence. If that evidence doesn't exist, scripture will be twisted to make it look like it does.

The doctrine of Christ is always subject to scriptural evidence.

How exactly can we know who was in the crowd and exactly what John was thinking when he wrote that? The words he used clearly relay to me he was talking to fellow believers, yet you seem to suggest you know who was there and what John was thinking when he wrote it. How do you pull all that from the words he wrote? Or is it just how YOU would feel, or just what supports your personal view? All we have is the text, and I read it as he was addressing fellow believers, how do we know what percentage of the crowd was unbelievers to the believers, and how is this clear from the words used?

Willie T writes "I suspect there were at least several people in that audience that WERE leaning highly toward the Gnostics. He WAS preaching to them."

"I suspect"? Do we build doctrine on you suspicions, or anyone else's? Not a very solid case in my opinion.

I missed nothing. You have equated talking about a group of people with actually talking to those people being discussed. You cannot tell the difference, and make false allegations as a result of your lack of discernment.

No, "I" have not.
